The Cult Guards are a good choice because they start out neutral but if you attack one of them, they all turn hostile (instead of only one of them turning hostile or the whole town turning hostile). I think they're 8th Level Fighters with longswords and platemail with about 50-60 hit points each. (My game is down right now because I'm upgrading my computer, so I can't check it out for myself.) You can use the CLUAConsole to change a few global variablesto re-create the situation perfectly if you want.

My own strategy would be pretty simple. I'd create my own army with a Wand of Monster Summoning and spells like Animate Dead. Then I'd start the fight by lobbing a Skull Trap, a Glyph of Warding, and a fireball into the middle of the horde. Once they turned hostile, I would use party-friendly area effect spells such as Horror, Slow, Emotion, and Chaos. It would be a hoot.
Thanks for the advice on how to recreate the situation. I've never used the CLUAConsole as I considered it cheating. I suppose it is really what you do with it. I personally wouldn't use it to create a weapon etc. but then others might consider what I do to be cheating. Some things are a matter of opinion after all.

I wish this was my own fault, for using the CLUA console.
Maybe it is MY fault, for doing something....strange... :(

Anyway, I'll see if I can find some time tonight to test som strategies. :)

Argh. I can't kill them. They swarm me every time and my poor party don't stand a chance. I've tried with more fireballs and cloud kill. Jaheira casting entangle at the same time. Nothing works. There's too many of them.
I think my mage has too few spells. This is what I get for always using the same spells with Dynaheir. No horror or anything. Damn.

I guess I'll have to try my other save and kill the demonknight again and see if the army's gone when I return to Ulgoth's Beard.

Have you tried positioning your party somewhere more defensible so that they can only come at you 1 or two at a time?

Perhaps there is a gateway or a stairway that you can use. If i recall there are 1 or 2 positions like that in Ulgoths Beard.

If you could be a bit more precise as to where your party is, and where the army is, we might be able to give more constructive advice.

My party stands were you enter the area, at the place were you meet the first cultist. They are dead.

The army stands outside the house were the cultists are summoning the demon.

Perhaps it would help everyone more if you would provide the save game file that you are working with for download so others can load it and work with it.

I cannot see why you cannot put boots of speed on Immy, let her hide in shadows. Take her only outside. Before backstabbing anyone, go as close as you can to the door that you have just come through. Backstab and return through the door that you have just come through. Hide again and repeat ad infinitum. Are those outside so close to the door that you cannot go back through it? This is the tactic that I usually use when attacking a party that is stronger than mine.
