As for the performance issue discussion, I found another tip from Obsidian forum.
Obsidian Forum Community -> NWN2 Discussion Thread
How about disabling the V-sync manually through display properties instead of letting application controlled?
I heard LCD users will have their frame rates limited to 30fps due to its low refresh rate and NWN2 doesn't have a v-sync on/off option which is defaulted as 'on'...
I think its the V-sync problem which plagues so many problems for the users in the Bio forums. It may help solving many slow down issues (for high end GPU users especially) over there if the devs inform them of this V-sync problem and the alternate way to disable it.
Also, it'll be nice if the next patch includes the V-sync toggle though.
I hope it will help you.

That's the bad thing about RPG games, the new generation of games quickly outpaces the hardware of the prior game generation. Every new Elder Scrolls game that has come out has caused me to go back and buy a new computer or shell out for updated hardware, usually watching the game sit on the shelf for up to 6 months after I buy it. When Oblivion came out, I shelled out for an X800 series Radian card knowing that is was near the top of the charts then meaning it MIGHT be bottom end next time around (instead of me buying the bare minimum card this time and being outdated next week). Good luck Rosemary B.

I just got this game and it runs so slowly that its pretty much unplayable. My comp meets all the recquired specs but even with all graphic options turned down to their lowest it doesnt help at all. It's somewhat baffling because my comp is less than a year old and had Zero problems whatsoever running Oblivion with everything turned all the way up. Bleh

Additionally, you should see if you can just return the game to your vendor. Although the system requirements have to be posted on the side of the box by law, they might take it back anyway. If you have the receipt it's usually not a big deal, just tell them you made a mistake. Happens to the best of us.

Does anybody have any tips for getting better framerates.
I have AMD 2800, Radeon 9800 pro, 1gb of ram, and its still pretty laggy at 800x600 expecially in Neverwinter. Everything set to low

I have done some tweaking myself and found some great ways to improve framerates.
First of all, use the top-down camera view, and zoom out and mid level. If you zoom out too much it will cause more lag (obviously because there is more to be drawn). Also gives the game a nice BG2-like feel which I love.
Next, View distance!!! I jacked mine down to like 115 and it helped frame rates tremendously. I really didn't notice any degrade in landscape quality either

Tweaking view distance usually dramatically increases framerates in any 3D game.
Don't run stuff in the background! I disabled my anti virus, anti spyware, and my IRC chat, and it definitely gave some improvements.
Thats all I have to share for now, more coming in the future maybe

Hey, guys i have a problem with lagging too.
Athlon 2600 +
FX 5500 256mb (128Bits)
1gb mem DDR 400
Win XP
I don't know if you guys know any other's tip's besides the ones that you gave to Mary.I allready turn all the textures to low and the resolution is at 800x600 even though i get a lot of lagging and a pooor graphic experience, i mean with this comp i was able to run SCCT with a nice viewing, but i think they need to uptimize the programming for Video cards like mine.
Thanks a lot , and sorry for my bad english, i'm not north-american i'm Brazilian.

Eh, I know of one other person who has I believe the same card that you have and meets all of the other requirements and he can't run it either. I think without a better card, you may not be able to get better than that.

I could be wrong though.

Your system is the lowest acceptable one I think, both video card and processor are just in the minimum requirements, meaning that the game is going to run, but everything is crawling....

Nah, I have pretty much the same specs, your system isn't up to snuff. FX5500 isn't supported in the NWN2 system requirements, after the game was released, the minimum system requirements for a card (for nvidia at least) was an Nvidia GeForce FX5700.
Simply put, you and I both need new cards.

You don't need a new PC, you just need a new video card. I think your processor speed is actually faster than mine to be honest, I just bought a very nice video card sunday so I could run this game. I need to send in my rebate too before it goes bad. Must make mental note.

Don't hurry out to buy new PC gear
If I were you, I would not do anything to address the performance problem with the game until a patch is released for the game specificlally to address performance.
There are folks with screaming fast game rigs that are having the exact same issues as mentioned here, and there is an obvious problem with the game engine somewhere that will need to be addressed. You may find that the game plays adequately well on existing hardware once the performance issues are cleared up.
It seems that there is a problem with the game's engine interface into various hardware drivers so that some folks seem to play ok while others cannot effectively play the game no matter what they do with the settings. It will be sorted out soon though I am betting.
I personally have a nice running PC that plays NWN2 very well as far as graphics go but the sound is all kinds of screwed up - voice over dialogue gets dragged out to about 3-10 times as slow as it should be so I cant stand the voice acting scenes. At the same time that is happening though, the FPS display will show 35-50 FPS. So the game is running great but the game engine isnt talking to the sound card correctly at all.
The sound part may actually be what is causing the FPS issues for others as well for all I know, but I am sure they will have some updates to address it very soon.
