It worked, at least the giveitem part. This is getting very interesting, so I made one, big high-res screenshot.

As you can see I am a level 10 palemaster, as undead as it gets, and I cannot equip the item (x2_it_cremumkat for those who wish to try for themselves). I found something else too, which makes this ordeal even more puzzling. As suggested I tried to give the weapon to a few of my late-chapter 2 party members.. -but I couldn't! I simply received a small message that I wasn't allowed to give it to anyone else.
.... ideas?

Try taking a class that lets you put some points in Use Any Magic Device. Perhaps that will allow you to use it.

It was already fairly high on that character.
Edit: my mistake, I thought you meant the craft wonderous item feat. Be that as it may, this is clearly a weapon and not a staff or something like that.

And before anyone asks, yes I did take the exotic weapons feat into the build.

Well, technically, so long as you have a Use Magic Device skill high enough to beat a DC 25 check, you should be able to use that weapon so long as you are proficient with it. Regardless of race. That's about all of the input I can give, is just the rules aspect of it. *shrugs* No clue other than that.

I guess little more that can be added on the subject. Perhaps our resident Lasombra is right and the weapon is just a teaser of what is to come in future modules. If there was any more info to be found on this in the toolset I guess it would have turned up by now.

Hmm. I believe there is a prerequisite of having a Str of 13 or higher in order to use a bastard sword or katana one handed in DnD rules. Your Str may be a problem. Try this quickly to see if it fixes things:
Right Click on your characters portrait, so that little portrait shows up in the top middle of the screen of you showing he is targeted. Then, open the debug mode and type:
SetSTR 14
then hit enter, and see if you can use it. If not, I don't know what else to tell you.

No difference.

Blah.
Well, after all that trouble, I'd just make my own sword with all of that to play with in the toolset.

I could care less about the sword, I just really like what this class might imply.
Plus, I've been sick for a couple of days so I have little else to do than to stroll the internet for answers.

I too find this interesting. Not the sword itself but what it implies. Imagine if your high level wizard might become a lich in versions to come.
I'd like that.

I had an epiphany. I'm still working on that warlock/monk build (just achieved the demon form actually, high wisdom - I love this build so much), when I realized that my race changed from human to something like 'outsider'. In this mode, most of the items you carry are red, unusable. While fighting Garius however I noticed he summoned a demon similar to myself, except it wielded a big swordie thing.
Do any of the transformations turn you undead? Maybe there are 'outsider' class weapons too, I can't think of any.

The only thing I can think of is if they bring back the broken Shifter PrC from NWN-HoTU and let you use the Undead Shape feat. Other than that, or some new varient, I would say no.

I forgot, you can't use your inventory in your polymorph form (your items are supposed to have melded with your flesh. You can however see it when you talk to a merchant in that form. That's probably why I was mistaken.

I believe that katana was the weapon you recieved if you where a shifter and took the shapechange undead feat in NWN1. You didn't really recieve it as much as it was equipped on you when you changed to the mummy lord. It was probably inlcuded as an easter egg or when the scrapped the Shifter prestige class they forgot to remove it and it got into a merchants sell list. It can be equiped if you have a high UMD skill and exotic weapon proficiency.

Bumping up an old thread, but I thought I'd add this:
I play a pure Warlock in the game and just bought the katana from Uncus. My character has the Exotic Weapon feat, and she can use the Katana of the Mummy Lord without a problem, but she cannot give it to any other character. I don't know what skills or feats this is tied into, but she has Use Magic Device 42 and Deceive Item (feat). So I guess we at least know now that the katana can be used. As a matter of fact, the Warlock class seems to be able to use just about anything, including almost all items that have "Only Usable by: *class*" attached to them.
I also remember that this katana was in NWN1, but I can't for the life of me remember where. I think it was lootable, or something.

It's the Use Magic Device skill. Like I mentioned earlier, you would need to have to beat a DC 25 UMD check in order to emulate a race with the skill. a 42 most definately beats that. Wonder why it didn't work for Tricky.

Oh, wow
Words escape me.
Here's the breakdown: The description really does mean what it says.
It's only usable by undead. Like, zombies, mummies, liches, you know, undead.
It's not intended to be used by just anyone. An undead guy went and made a sword that only he could use. Exactly like how an elf could make a sword that only elves can use.
This doesn't mean you're going to become undead. It means that you aren't the only person in this world. And that not all items are available to anyone.
It doesn't mean that "undead" is now a class. I mean, come on, it even says in the expanded description that it's a Racial group.
How to use the item: Use Magic Device. Yes, this means that not anyone can use it, since it's cross-class for a lot of people. Muffin.
What irritates me is that the moderators should know stuff like this.
Also, there never has been and never will be a strength requirement to use bastard swords or katanas. Perhaps there should be; there isn't.

The moderators do their duties in their own spare time. We do not get paid for moderating the site and are not necessarily experts on everything to do with a game. Our role is to keep the forums running smoothly and to provide help when we can. We all have our own lives outside of GB and cannot devote all our time to knowing every single detail about a game. If we could answer every question then what would be the point in having the forums in the first place rather than just a question/answer faq?

Not to mention that you're raking up old forum material here. What are you trying to prove? That you can provoke a reaction?
