These are *exceptional* starting attributes. His character will not be "weak until he find the tomes" as you state.

Finding the tomes does not require "hugging a walkthrough" either - it just requires you to explore.

Have you played the game at all?

I agree with you that it's all about having fun, though. Reading this thread, however, suggests the creator wishes the strongest build for his character - hence my recommendations.

Good tips. I am already well into the game though and don't feel like using Shadowkeeper.

By the way, I pretty much know where everything is in these games without a walkthrough. :p

@silvanerian: You should know that bards have low HP and that an extra HP per level can help a lot. At the beginning every HP counts, you'll be low level and without the constitution tome for a long time. Most of the game is over when you find the strength tome and many players don't even play that long.

About the tomes: The exploration order is optional and it might happen that you decide to explore in another order and therefore won't stumble upon them before the end and some caves are really hard to spot.
There are other things about the tomces that I won't mention because of spoilers, but I know that it's not fun if you rely on the books on character creation and don't find them.

There's a big difference about what we see as strongest character, you mainly care about the stats at the start of BG2 (which will change during BG2 by the way), for me the stats in BG1 also do matter.
