It's kinda like the Rakshasa arguement. If you were going to play an evil character, a Rakshasa would be a great race to play. Problem is you could be a lvl 90 Fighter, Mage, or whatever and some stupid 1st level fighter with a blessed bolt could kill you with 1 hit.

In one of the 2nd Edition Player's Options books (I think High Level Campaigns), it mentions that races with known weaknesses (i.e. the Rakshasa) are quite aware of their weakness. High level PCs or NPC's of that race will actively prevent you from exploiting that weakness (perhaps stoneskin for the high level Rakshasa).

This kit must have the special ability "fiddle with corpse" useable once per 24hrs - only at night in graveyards or after battles.

I disagree. You seem to have a preoccupation with the dead. Wanting to reanimate them, bind them to your will. Instill the dead with 'life'.

You shun normal people and seek to be "as one" with the dead. Image

No, no, no... you are just manipulating the dead as you would do with the living. It is all a matter of perseption, and there is nothing like that. You described the necrolover (aka Le Grunt Image) and not the Necromancer. The latter is just a mage who USES dead to acomplish his goals for power, money, broads, booze etc. Got it? Image

Okay, I may be an old AD&D purist, but last time I looked, death knights were some corrupted form of a fighter/mage (created by a demon prince, maybe?). And there were only 14 known to exist. These guys were ruthlessly bad - Fiend Folio listed them at upwards of 80% magic resistance with some 10% chance that the spell would reflect back.

Is this still true? I guess I'm in favor of anti-paladins and all, but a PC that's a death knight (while certainly intriguing) seems a little unbalanced.

Okay, looks like my other post never made it. Quick question - do death knights still exist in AD&D?

When I played, death knights were some of the baddest guys around. These were corrupted fighter/mages (not anti- or fallen paladins) who were rumored to be created by a demon prince. There were 14 known to exist and they had about 75% MR with a 10% chance the spell would bounce back at the caster.

While I'd enjoy playing one, that's just way too powerful as a PC.
