I agree with the bounty hunter being useless in TOB. Also in SOA, once you hit high enough level. "Throwing" the traps is cool, but once they reach the otiluke's sphere effect, not too cool. . .I want the bad guys damaged, not put where I can't beat on 'em.

Worst "kit", if this counts--has to be the transmuter. Too many important mage-fighting spells are unlearnable. Then again, you can still load up on Color Spray. Fun to cast on commoners!

They cheat, of course. :D

Enemies can't cast or use contingencies like the player can. Instead, they emulate the effects through their scripts. Their script writers apparently thought it would be fun if they pretended to cast Time Stop through a Chain Contingency.

Just like you can't disrupt enemy spellcasters anymore once you get to ToB. Pure cheating.

Hehe.. I disrupt them just fine with a slash across the chest and a stab in the tummy with my swords. :D "I've got a blade with your name on it." "Funny, I got two with your first and last names on it!" Man I love ToB so far.

Oh, and while I am far from a BG2 expert, I think the Beastmaster kit is just.. well.. kinda garbagy. ^^;

F/M/T as JAKER presented his case. This class is only useful when played solo or in a very small party.

Wizard Slayers go well with Archers. IMHO. WS have Mag Rest, that, when played upon reaching ToB would really get to be a mean tank. As far as I know, those liches and mages get to be disrupted even in ToB. With greater whirlwind, the mages wont be able to casr spells in the next round. ;)

He can use the boots of speed. As for the WS having limited magic stuff to use --- put it this way, at least he wont have to get ALL the goodies and have the others make use of other uber stuff.

For me I would have to say the worst protagonist would be the archer subkit or maybe the bard class in general, but then again I go in for warrior class stuff, don't like sitting back in the sidelines and casting stuff and shooting stuff. The bard mainly because while he is good at a lot of things he is not a very good specialist in those areas. The bard while being able to cast spells is not as good as a normal mage, so I just use a normal mage, it just seems a waste to choose a bard, also you can not wear that good of a armor, I like full plate, so overall I would have to say the bard followed by the archer subclass is the worst protagonist choice.

I'd say a pure Thief - Multi or Dual are so much better. Quite soon you don't know which thief skill to raise if you play a pure one.

For crying out loud UserUnfriendly! - Bards are one of the *very* best complement for *any* party. All this Aerie-business makes it foggy for you... ;)

Paldins? Why do you say so? Image Is it kit-wise or are you referring to the goody-good-shoes-playing part. I would appreciate an explanation. :)

Here is another funky choice for bad class to play....

Mage! pure or kit!!! with the exception of the wild mage!!!
Ok, here is my rational. Magic spells are potentially the best offensive wep in the game. I love spells, but hink the pure mage class sucks. The sorc class, played by a person with good knowlege of bg 2 can always whomp the equal level mage. now the multis and duals are really evil power classes, but the pure mage
lacks the insta cast ability of the sorc,
does not have as many spells per level as cleric, even specialty mage, with possible exception of edwin.

The sorc is such a good class in comparison to the mage, its amazing. Multi and dual class with mage is also killer and gives you many abilities that complement some ability to spell cast, but really this makes it so you almost have no justification from power gamer view point to play pure mage. how many people play pure mage?

Astafas, its not really cause of aerie, and no I have no neurosis about comfusing games with reality, but my dislike of bards goes back to my college days, I went to uc snata cruz, and street musicians really got to be annoying. also, while not tone deaf, I don't care much for music at all, though I have a video collection, especially anime, that would make every one of the anime fans in this forum drool and go slack eyed with envy. literally hundreds!!

id say that the "new" ranger subkits are bad. who needs a stalker when there are many multi/dual/pure thives around? an archer gets killed as soon as he runs out of arrows and has no melee weapon in hand. AND the beast master.....god in heaven(i bet theres a BGII treehugger out there somewhere that gave them the idea of a beastmaster) also, for the asrcher i dont fancy haveing to waste a +2 already in 2 weapon style just to use a bow.

The two '*'s in Two-Weapon Fighting Style are not "wasted", since they're free. Extra. On top of what a Fighter would get.

Just because archers are good with a bow doesn't mean they are bad in melee. A fighter without a melee weapon isn't that hot in melee either.
They are a very good class indeed.

On the contrary you can change his script to "RANGED" wherein he hits his opponents with his bow at a safe distance then AUTOMATICALLY switches to a melee weapon when arrows are used up or his enemies are too close for effective bow use. As you go on further, you will discover MIs that have unlimited supply of ammos.

Put some significant prof points on "Single Weapon Use" (sorry cant recall all the real terms) where he gets bonus in AC just using a one-handed weapon without shield. I armed my archer with a special sword and gauntlet(later in ToB for the latter) that increases his #of attacks per round when using melee weapons.

You can also opt to have him dual wield when forced into melee - that is what the free slots on dual wield is for. ;)

The bother with dual-wielding is that you can't equip missile weapons into your quickslots at the same time. You'll have to go into your inventory every time you want to switch. It's an excellent tactic, but rather cumbersome.

Alternatively, you could go for a two-handed weapon. These are longer, meaning you can have your party members close in for melee, while you use the long weapon (staff, greatsword, spear or halberd) to whack the baddie from afar.

That's right Xyx. Actually upon reaching ToB, I had my archer use the Silver Sword as his backup weapon.
