Thanks, but I still cant use the editor

Thanks, the file that comes up thiis way is the one that the editor sees. I can load it to edit it and its the one that I saved with the editor. The problem is that the game is loading a differnt .sav file when I go back to play the game. I am not sure with vista that the game is looking for game00.sav file now. I have copy-edited any .sav files I have found and the game does not load either of the two.

Played this game when it first came out on an old computer and kinda liked it. Had to get this new computer to play nwn2. Kinda inbetween games and though it would be fun to play this one again as a magic man. Maybe it just wasnt to be. anyone else have any other suggestions...will be a rainy weekend and would like to get lost here.

TIA

Al

I found non-administer save game files

To see save files from non-administer save games on vista. First you got to the dungeon lords save game file, this should list your admin save games, on the small bar above, with organize ect, their should be compatibility files option which pulls them up (this may require show hidden folders to be on), they can than be copied to the admin save games, and will show up in the load screen. I have not tested well enough to see if all data carries.

Things to avoid in Vista

Program Files/Dreamcatcher/Dungeon Lords

This is the actual problem. Vista "protects" the 'program files' and 'user' directories and everything in them from changes, even from changes made by the user.

The simple remedy is not to install any games in their default location (like c:\program files\publisher\game name). Create a new folder that your games go into, like c:\mygames, and install your games in there, to protect them from Vista's "security mechanisms". Following this concept, your Dungeon Lords installation should be in
c:\mygames\Dungeon Lords.

cool that it was so simple of a solution.

Makes me lol to hear that ppl still instal in the default C:\
I always instal on a seperate partition but doing the compatibility to 2000 is smoother.

Different Vista issue

I do not have the same issue (at least not as of yet) with the error messages, but I am having a problem graphically. For whatever reason, no matter my computer settings, the game starts fine, but during the intro the whole screen shifts left so I lose about the left 2" of the screen. Any solutions?

During the intro, the screen shifts to 800x600 resolution. Perhaps it is your screen, do you have an old screen that need to be adjusted when you shift resolution ?

I'm using a 32" hd tv as a monitor, which I thought might be causing the problem, but wasn't sure if there was a way to fix that issue. I tried going to my graphics card settings and adjusting my screen to as far right as possible to overcompensate, but that didn't change anything.

Did you change the resolution to 800x600 and adjusted your graphic card settings ?

Good suggestions, all, but frankly I've had no problems gaming on Vista with games installed in the default directory as long as I run them in compatibility mode for XP and as an administrator. Never had to do any further editing or tweaking to get any games to work properly beyond that.

The only problem I've run into that didn't solve was with LAN multiplayer (for DL, specifically). In that case, there was a dialogue that popped up (and stayed up after I gave up and closed the game) telling me Windows Firewall was blocking and giving me the option to either "keep blocking" or "unblock". Clicking on "unblock" was all it took to allow LAN access

Hello, everyone. I'm having the same terrquad... invalid slot #14 problem. I'm not playing on Vista, but on windows 7. And I did everything you suggested as a solution for Vista: running as admin, running in compatibility mode, both at the same time, reinstalling in a non-default folder(usually I never install in C:\prog files, i hate that, but this time it happened accidentally :p )... but nothing seems to work.
I still get the same green message when I try to leave Fargrove for the first time.
I used to get that message when I overdid some stuff in DL editor, but I learned how to fix that. And I played through the beginning without any issues.
BUT... when I try to leave Fargrove, voila! The green box.

Help, please?

@Schteph: On the 2nd page of this thread, about half way down the page, Wulf has a very simple solution to the problem.

Yeah, I did that. But it still didn't work.
Maybe it's happening because I modified my character a bit in the DL game editor.
Dunno, I'm gonna start from the beginning without the modifications and see what happens...

It might be a Windows 7 issue. Hopefully someone here can help with that. Unfortunately, I don't really know much about computers. Hope you can resolve the issue, 'cause this is a fun game. Good luck.

It was a Dungeo Lords editor issue, after all. There was no bug when I played with an unmodified character. And it IS a fun game! :)

Help Plz

Ok, so I have done everything here except reinstall the game and nothing is working.

I don't really want to start over.

I am running Win 7 and I keep getting this error. Does anyone know what else I can do?

Or if I do reinstall it is there a way to keep my game save files?

Can I just save the save file to my desktop or something and then paste it in after the reinstall?

Sry, I'm not good with this stuff.

And thanks!
