It is kind of funny that, as a guy who studied Greek and Roman mythology, the myth was the third thing that came to my mind, after the American show with Kevin Sorbo (which I watched only once) and the galaxy.

I think it is time for me to get back to my mythology books!

First was, of course, the galaxy...

And probably because of that next followed an image of those stereotype nerds who loves Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica and so on...

I think of the galaxy (vastness of space), followed by classical Greek myth (ancient things), topped by associations with Crichton's book, The Andromeda Strain (imagination).

As a footnote, I also receive vague images of cheesy B-movie amazonians clad in studded leather bikinis, for what it's worth (juvenile impulses).

A couple of people have reminded me via PM that I haven't yet replied to this thread with an explanation.... I'm very sorry about that, things suddenly got a bit hectic for me and I lost track.

Anyway, the reason I asked is because I suppose I was doing a sort of trial baloon kind of thing
I am considering starting a business with a strong online presence (though hopefully it would be offline too), and I am thinking about a name.
Because I am interested in Classical mythology and symbolism, I was thinking about the name "AndromedaArtworks," because it would fit my ideas.
Basically.. I do some pretty nice work with the camera and I also have a deep interest in writing and literature...
I was thinking about combining these talents and interests...

The name Andromeda appeals strongly to me, and Thantor's post below sums up why uncannily well

What concerned me, though, (hence why I began this thread) is that "Andromeda" has a strong scifi connotation, and this is something I would expressly prefer to avoid, so I'm debating how to balance all of this out.

"Andromeda Artworks" has a very nice rythm and sound to it. If it's not already taken, I think it's a brilliant name.

@DW: I can understand any misgivings regarding the use of "Andromeda." As you seem to lean towards the Greek mythos here, there are other options to consider. How about Artemis, or Athena, instead? As I recall, one of Athena's roles was a patron of the arts and learning....wisdom, after a fashion. Both of those would escape any hang-ups regarding sci-fi. Aphrodite, on the other hand...

Does it have to be purely classical? There is no harm in having a galaxy named after yourself, as it were. Galaxies are fine things. As for the SciFi thing, I'm sure nobody who's not into SciFi has ever heard of it (at least I haven't), and for those who are it would probably just have good connotations.
In my opinion, a brand or company name impresses people with how it sounds phonetically, not by its meaning. Unless it's Goebbels Inc. or something. :laugh:
