Good suggestions
These are all very good suggestions. I like your idea Gonin. Mr sir also had a good idea with why Lax wanted the coffin bad enough. But one thing many of you have forgotten about the body is it could have been a vampire. Now remember there was in fact a body inside the box. Sure that says it could have been a ghoul if it was in fact dead. But what have we learned about torpor.
Torpor means you look dead. You also act dead. Short sighted peoplemthat didn't know you were a vamp might think you were dead. Nothing says that it wasn;t necessarily a vampire. If he was a leader of people and got wounded bad enough to fall into torpor they would have wrapped him up and put him in the box. If he went into torpor in his sadness they would have done the same as though he died in his sleep. Yes dead vampires turn to dust. But vampires in torpor look very dead. What were most of the ante's doing just before gehenna? They were asleep in torpor in hiding. Many ending up that way for various reasons.
One theory could just have easily been that Jack did pull the body out of the box and put a bomb inside knowing lax would try to diablarize the body within the moment he got the chance. The body could have been a vampire still remaining in torpor as well. Just because its body is tampered with they don't necessarily wake up. Especially if its not time yet. The less humanity they had and the worse the conditions were for the vampire in question the longer torpor lasts and the harder they are to wake up. Especially if they have no blood.
Jhereg I did find what you had to say very interesting. I noticed too that the character you play seemed to have a "Chosen One,s destiny thing" from out of a fortune cookie. Your killing vampires in mass numbers that you probably shouldnt be able to kill being just a fledgling. The characters sire didnt seem all that ancient for the power the fledgling seems to hold. But even with that being the case. Can some kind of correlation be seen to your powers and rise of caine and the ante,s? Something that made a powerful fledgling vampire thats stronger then it should be. Or is the character just lucky.
Lucita you make a good point too. The box could easily be something that has power only because others think it does. I believe your right in that it is certainly more dangerous because of how interested everyone is about it. I think that certainly allows those that are interested to be more easily manipulated.
Celacena. you also made a good point. Ofcourse I imagine it would cause caine to get involved if he actually believed someone like lax would truly be a threat to gehenna or whatever plans he had in mind if lax managed to become a third gen by diablarizing whoever in the box. Even more so if it were a third gen thought to be dead.
