I think the arguements for and against are moot. I don't particularly like that everyone has the same stats or points to buy stats. However, I also don't like it when you roll, that everyone will just keep rolling untill they get what they want, so once again, everyone has the same stats. They're just all higher under a roll system.

When everyone has high rolls, we're hardly exceptional. Under the Point buy rules, at least you have the chance to get an attribute or two to an exceptional level. My only beef is that its at the expense of your other attributes and that you are basically stuck with your starting stats throughout your career.</STRONG>
Rail, I agree with everything you said. I think in my campaign I am either going to allow players to roll 3 sets of stats with the 4d6 method, taking the best roll (just to avoid a real loser) or roll 1 set with 4d6, ignoring any roll less than 8. That should give everybody a great chance of rolling a good set of stats with minimal risk, and it should still allow for a decent variety among the characters.
If NWN
limited the number of re-rolls, there wouldn't be a world full of 50-point buy equivilent characters.

I really like the point-buy system, rolling sucks. If i would get a bad character i would just die and make a new better one.
Soon-to-be-heroes deserves a higher starting point i think, not the average farmer can be a hero.
I dont know the system exactly, but 5 points more than the average or so is ok.
I dont like the minimum is 8 however, since my characters whole personality is that he is extremely ugly and uncharismatic, a 3 is fit to him. He is probably human though, perhaps a dwarf. Both fit well into my way of playing, since dwarfs can now be "dualclassed" as well.

There is no real way to limit the number of rerolls in NWN... The powergamer in me will start new games, reinstall the game, even reinstall Windows (disk image would be handy) just to get rid of low stats.
The problem with Argyle's proposed 28 Point Buy is that all characters of a particular class will have practically identical stats (just to get the minimum for comfort). A few extra points means a lot more freedom for diversity.

I don't know. I'm not a programmer, but I would think if you had to create them while connected to the server on which you were playing, the server could limit you. You would have to get a new account and IP address to beat the system. Still possible, but more hassle. Then you would just about have to commit suicide to create a new character.

Probably the most practical argument in the thread. I think I've made it before, but always in the middle of a long, rambling post. Besides, few people get that point.
