Wesp's 4.5 patch troubleshooting
Hello again, same problem here Wesp.Wesp5 wrote:Yes. You are using the basic patch 4.5 and I accidentally included the plus map. This will be fixed in version 4.6!
I'm playing the game yet again (with the 4.5 patch) with the sole purpose of finding the Weekapug Thistle, since I couldn't find it in the last run. I've read the location of the Dodge Book and the Thistle have been swapped, so I raised my Inspection level to 7 and searched every corner of Grout's Mansion but I only got another copy of Dodge (although I found two microscopic Morphines and a Gold Ring). So, when you say you used the Plus map, that mean that the Thistle definitely is nowhere to be found in 4.5?
Seems like a lot of dudes are looking for it right now.

Yes, sorry. If it's not to late just copy both plus maps over to you basic installation (sm_oceanhouse_2.bsp and la_malkavian_2.bsp) or get it via the console with "give item_p_occult_dodge".][_aVey wrote:So, when you say you used the Plus map, that mean that the Thistle definitely is nowhere to be found in 4.5?
Great, thank you Wesp I'll try that! It's good to know that you visit these forums frequently.Wesp5 wrote:Yes, sorry. If it's not to late just copy both plus maps over to you basic installation (sm_oceanhouse_2.bsp and la_malkavian_2.bsp) or get it via the console with "give item_p_occult_dodge".
I found some other issues with the game and I don't know if they can be fixed via the patch:
1) When you meet Heather in front of LaCroix building after the Elizabethan Rendezvous trip, she should give you a Silver Ring. I was carrying two Silver Rings at the time and the one Heather supposedly gave me didn't appear in my inventory. I restored prior to this event and dropped my two rings to the floor first, then I met with Heather and she gave me her ring and finally I picked those I've dropped to finally count three.
2) Another issue was that I wanted to make all the possible things in the Skyeline Apartments in just one trip, so I picked the Necromantic quest from Pisha (where you must find the reporter in apt. 1), the Mudd Hunt (where you must listen to the answering machine in apt. 2), the Fun With Pestilence (where you must listen to another machine), and wanted to check the rest of the apartments. But when I wanted to input the code for apt. 3 (although you can enter from the vents) I wasn't unable to do so as the option of interacting with the num pad didn't come up, any ideas?
3) Another bug happened to me only once, when I went with Therese and Jeanette to finish the Sibling Rivalry quest, Therese/Jeanette ended stuck in the little animation with the gun in her hand and the dialogues wouldn't start, so the game couldn't continue, although I restored to a previous state and the problem was no more.
4) Yet another bug which has happened quite some times is at Downtown, at the left corner of the Empire Hotel, two guys (one with a dark suit and a thug with a red headscarf) block each other's path and they end up stuck on that place. The only problem with this is that when you go to fight the russians in the Empire's parking lot and the two guys are there, chances are that the thug will enter fight mode and attack you too, and if you happen to kill him you lose Humanity.
Thanks for reading and if I find other bugs I'll post them here, C U!

I've noticed in previous patches that silver rings don't seem to stack. If I get a silver ring from either Carson's apartment or from the trunk in the morgue, the silver ring in the warehouse roof entrance always vanishes.1) When you meet Heather in front of LaCroix building after the Elizabethan Rendezvous trip, she should give you a Silver Ring. Another spot where a thug appears to get stuck is right around the corner from the alley just up the street from the Tremere chantry.4) Yet another bug which has happened quite some times is at Downtown, at the left corner of the Empire Hotel, two guys (one with a dark suit and a thug with a red headscarf) block each other's path and they end up stuck on that place. Yeah, I'm aware of the "vanishing" of items when you get near them. What happens is that the only time when the game gives you a message when you pick up an item is when you don't have any other in your inventory. From then on, you'll automatically pick them up when you pass near them, thus looking like they vanish but stocking in your inventory nonetheless. You can also pick them up by pointing at something from a distance and pressing the "Interact" button (default: E).Kid SixXx wrote:I've noticed in previous patches that silver rings don't seem to stack. This is helpful in terms that you could be picking up stuff that's hard to find without even noticing it (the Gold Ring at Grout's Mansion comes to mind), so my advice would be to keep at least one copy of each of the sallable stuff (rings, stereos, drugs, etc.) in your possession.

I thought we had fixed this bug in 4.5, so if you already use that and Heather's ring still vanishes, please confirm this then I will look into it from another angle.][_aVey wrote:From then on, you'll automatically pick them up when you pass near them, thus looking like they vanish but stocking in your inventory nonetheless.
As for your other bug reports, as long as a bug is random only I can't fix it...
Thank you for reading Wesp. I'm aware that many of the bugs present in this game can't be fixed or are just not worth the effort as the game is staring to seem dated by today's standards, I just wanted to point all of the little bugs I've found just so everybody playing may have some knowledge of strange behaviors that may occur while playing, and so people involved in delivering future patches know about them too.
Well, I've played the game recently and here is another list with bugs that have happened to me:
1) I really don't know if this is a bug or if the game was meant to behave like this: when you're about to enter, let's say, a boss battle, there is usually a conversation before the fight begins; if you have prepared a discipline (like casting Blood Shield), after the conversation ends, the discipline will be deactivated meaning you will have to lose time and blood casting it again.
2) At the Empire Hotel 6th. floor (when you must deal with Boris) there is a room with three goons, a stat book and a TV. It seems that the patch makes the TV to have no sound. As far as I can remember the TV had sound when I was playing with no patch (or with 1.2, can't remember).
3) Here is a funny one: the second time I was playing the game, from the Society of Leopold and there on my Sneaking ability made me completely invisible to the enemies (just a couple of times I was discovered), I just had to crouch and walk to the enemies even in front of them with the sneaking radar at (100), and even touching them. While they were alerted of my presence, the radar never went from (100) to (!), meaning I was able to stealth-kill almost every enemy to the end. Now, I'm not complaining about this, but I just say that it took away a big part of the strategy and some of the fun. I don't usually spend Experience in Sneaking or Dexterity, so this was obviously a poor programming result.
4) Another one would be watching people run in the distance and maybe it has happened to you. I'm not really sure if this is a bug or if it is related to your graphic card. Anyway, in many places (mainly in Downtown and Hollywood streets) every now and the, you can see pedestrians walking at the speed of light! When you arrive near them you will see them appear again walking in the same direction but at normal speed, like if the game was trying to trace the direction that character is supposed to walk and, when you arrive, drawing it properly...
5) I've always wanted to skip the intro after I'd seen it the first time. The patch adds a check box in the Character Creation sheet where it is supposed to be able to do so, but I've never been able to skip it. I've tried pressing every key on my keyboard but to no avail, is this a bug?
6) Here is another one which has happened to me a couple of times. Sometimes when you talk to a weapon seller, at the moment when it brings his inventory (after asking them to do it) the game will crash and exit to Windows. It happened to me with Larry, and restoring from a previous save didn't fix it, it kept happening so I gave up buying from Larry. The second time happened with Tseng, but this time I restored from much previous save and the problem was solved. My theory is that everytime you make business with a vendor he keeps a copy of what you sold, over-selling him and making his inventory too big makes the game to crash the next time you come carrying a big inventory too.
7) I'm sure this has happened to you, when you meet Imalia if you're not exactly behind her she won't look at you and instead will be talking to the air. I think this happens because the programmers thought you'd be standing right behind her when you engaged a conversation with her, so this is the only character that doesn't try to look at you when you're talking to her.
8) Again, I don't know if this is a bug or if the game was meant to behave this way, when reloading a shotgun it takes eons!, it seems that you always load one or two extra slugs making this one of my less favorite kind of weapons in a firefight.
9) A little one: Nadja Giovanni ends up stuck at the door behind the shelf after moving the sword switch, saying: "C'mon... C'mon... C'mon..." like crazy; a strange behavior that fixes only after you walk near her.
10) Here is a strange one: since the quest involving dealing with the Gargoyle gives you 3 EXP, I left it pending until I'd found the Saulocept (to get 4 EXP instead), but I discovered something odd... I was able to talk the Gargoyle into joining Isaac Abrahams, I got 4 EXP, then I went to report to Isaac and he gave me 1 EXP more. The "Quest Complete" message appeared. Then I came with the idea of defeating the Gargoyle so I returned and killed it, I was rewarded with yet another 4 EXP!, but in the Log Screen the complete quest message of dealing with the Gargoyle had dissapeared and the pending message of having killed the Gargoyle-report to Isaac appeared. I tried to do it but nothing more related to the Gargoyle was able with Isaac, so I didn't get nothing and there was no way of getting the proper "Complete Quest" message.
But here is what really pissed-me-off, since I skipped most side quests until I got the Saulocept, those quests which involved giving me 1 EXP wouldn't reward me with nothing!!! The "Cover Girl" quest from Imalia really made me mad, I spent $500 and walking from one end to the other of the city for nothing! My theory is that the Gargoyle issue was the reason why the other quests wouldn't give me nothing, although I could be wrong...
Jezz, that list went pretty long but at least I had fun writing it. I hope some of these can be fixed in future releases of the patch. Thank you for reading, adiós!

I think this is intended as the player will also holster any weapons on talking.][_aVey wrote: 1) I really don't know if this is a bug or if the game was meant to behave like this: when you're about to enter, let's say, a boss battle, there is usually a conversation before the fight begins; if you have prepared a discipline (like casting Blood Shield), after the conversation ends, the discipline will be deactivated meaning you will have to lose time and blood casting it again.
This was removed on purpose because when using subtitles like I do, the TV subtitles were readable the moment you entered the level. I also noticed that the TV at Tawni's place was silent as well, both which makes sneaking easier.2) At the Empire Hotel 6th. floor (when you must deal with Boris) there is a room with three goons, a stat book and a TV. Sadly we can't edit the sneaking parameters as they are calculated and stored in some database. But I noticed as well that sneaking got too easy in the end.3) Here is a funny one: the second time I was playing the game, from the Society of Leopold and there on my Sneaking ability made me completely invisible to the enemies
I know what you mean but I don't think it is fixable.4) Another one would be watching people run in the distance and maybe it has happened to you.
Yeah, that is another well known bug that we can't fix .5) I've always wanted to skip the intro after I'd seen it the first time. The patch adds a check box in the Character Creation sheet where it is supposed to be able to do so, but I've never been able to skip it. I've tried pressing every key on my keyboard but to no avail, is this a bug?
This never happened to me, but I heard that if you sell too much to a vendor, some of his own items will move out of the screen and will not be available.6) Here is another one which has happened to me a couple of times. Sometimes when you talk to a weapon seller, at the moment when it brings his inventory (after asking them to do it) the game will crash and exit to Windows.
Yeah, I know about that and tried to fix it to no avail. Sometimes she turns correctly, sometimes not and it is actually independent on where you are standing.7) I'm sure this has happened to you, when you meet Imalia if you're not exactly behind her she won't look at you and instead will be talking to the air.
I never noticed that, but it could be intended as the shotgun is already very powerful.8) Again, I don't know if this is a bug or if the game was meant to behave this way, when reloading a shotgun it takes eons!
That never happened to me.9) A little one: Nadja Giovanni ends up stuck at the door behind the shelf after moving the sword switch, saying: "C'mon... C'mon... C'mon..." like crazy; a strange behavior that fixes only after you walk near her.
I don't think you were supposed to enter his lair again. I will look into it.10) Here is a strange one: since the quest involving dealing with the Gargoyle gives you 3 EXP, I left it pending until I'd found the Saulocept (to get 4 EXP instead), but I discovered something odd... I have no idea what could be the reason for that...But here is what really pissed-me-off, since I skipped most side quests until I got the Saulocept, those quests which involved giving me 1 EXP wouldn't reward me with nothing!!!
FYI...I'm no native English speaker but I call the small bits inside a shotgun shell pellets and the game calls the whole thing a buckshot compared to e.g. the Desert Eagle bullet.
Buckshot = a lead ball fired from a shotgun, typically 7-8 in one shell. Used for hunting large game (such as deer) or as an anti-personnel weapon. Larger than "birdshot" (which is used on small game). Smaller than a slug (which is a single large lead ball).
Bullets are pretty much the standard conical ammunition of rifles and handguns.
It worked wonders, thank you for the tip!Wesp5 wrote:Yes, sorry. If it's not to late just copy both plus maps over to you basic installation (sm_oceanhouse_2.bsp and la_malkavian_2.bsp) or get it via the console with "give item_p_occult_dodge".

Oh, remember that part I mentioned earlier when Imalia wouldn't reward you with 1 EXP if you chose to do her "Cover Girl" quest? Well, it seems that it's not related to the Gargoyle quest. This time I left pending the Gargoyle quest and proceeded further into the game doing all possible quests. When I finished Imalia's, she wouldn't give me the EXP point. If I can remember correctly, she gave you 1 EXP and, if you asked for it, she would give you $100 and you'd still be able to ask her for the "Model Citizen" quest. This time around, when you give her the magazine she won't give you EXP, and you have to make a choice: get $200 from her, or that she gives you the "Model Citizen" quest, but not both. Maybe this problem is related with the change of 'Maps' in the patch, as the location of the Galdjum has changed too in the Warrens. I'm almost sure these issues didn't happen before I applied the patch, but I can't confirm it as that happened a long time ago.
Same for the "Italian Dinner", if you decide to kill Bruno Giovanni, you'll only be rewarded with a "Quest Log Updated" message, but you won't get any extra EXP.
I don't know if there are other quests that don't give you EXP anymore, if I know of another I'll let you know.
Keep up the good work!
Peace.

This change is intended as I got convinced by several people that Bloodlines shouldn't reward senseless killing of anyone and never does in any other case.Same for the "Italian Dinner", if you decide to kill Bruno Giovanni, you'll only be rewarded with a "Quest Log Updated" message, but you won't get any extra EXP.

When do you think patch ver. 4.6 will be out?
O I C. My personal opinion is that you should be rewarded if you decide to start this fight. These people are the mafia and I think they had it coming. I really enjoy this fight, with the summoned zombies, the ghouls, the vampires and the fast running boss, plus you can open many of the locked doors for free; but I don't think I'll ever start this fight again if I'm not gonna be rewarded... I wonder if there's a manual way of changing this behavior too.Wesp5 wrote:This change is intended as I got convinced by several people that Bloodlines shouldn't reward senseless killing of anyone and never does in any other case.
Oh, before I forget, let me tell you of something odd that happened to me the other day, I entered Grout's Mansion level. Right after meeting with Nines I casted Blood Shield and proceeded to the front door (I only remember I was moving my mouse to the left and Blood Shield was just casted at that point), when I was actually in the first room (right after the loading screen) a strange message appeared in lower-right of the center of the screen saying "A.I. deactivated" (or something like that). Before anything happened I restored to a previous save, so I really don't know what things could have changed. I'm not asking to look into this as it was easily fixed and only happened to me once, I just wanted to mention it just for the record.
Thank you again, C U!

It could be out as early as next week if nothing important comes up.When do you think patch ver. 4.6 will be out?
You get rewarded by getting a desert eagle for free, but as the fight is not needed most people me included don't think it should give a xp.My personal opinion is that you should be rewarded if you decide to start this fight.
You would need to add a xp to the experience_table.txt and refer to it in the quest_downtown.txt. Look into an older patch for this.I wonder if there's a manual way of changing this behavior too.
This is a common message when the graph files are out of date. I will check this out for 4.6...when I was actually in the first room (right after the loading screen) a strange message appeared in lower-right of the center of the screen saying "A.I. deactivated" (or something like that).
I have couple of bugs that have showed up while playing with the 4.5 plus patch.
1. The first Poster quest worked fine, but then the next quest e-mail given was the one that at least according to the walkthrough should have been the last. And of course the video tape didn't work when put into mailbox, as it wasn't it's turn. When i jammed all the poster quest items left (3) into the mailbox the next two quests items disappeared and the posters appeared as they should have been (altough the e-mails about them hadn't arrived yet). I had to leave the haven once more to make the last video tape disappear and make the last poster appear.
2. The old assasins in chinatown seems to be bugged too. I can't get the Fortune teller guy to tell me anything else, but tell my fortune... So no reconsiliation or pumping the price higher. (or then I'm just doing it wrong).
[edit] nevermind about the assasins, I guess I just needed to make myself "famous" to make the fortune teller talk to me.
If you need savefile or something, I can provide it.

Wesp, would you be so kind as to detail how to save Jeanette and Therese as a Malkavian? I just can't seem to find the right dialog sequence. My Persuasion is at 5 and I remember there used to be blue lines in the unpatched version, but there are none here. Therese always kills her sister no matter what I say, it seems.
