About that discount... I hate to think Hillary is wasting her time with a tightfisted "donor" unwilling to happily ooze gravy, but desperate times call for desperate measures. So be it.

Well I joined in May last year, and made my first post in December. And Lady Dragonfly is partly right; at least that is why I did it (both to vote, and with the intention of making a post, but then not having the time, or my internet connection stuffing up, or someone else beating me to what I wanted to say).

And then there is the matter of "the first impression", which although probably really doesn't mean much in a forum, does have the "noob" thinking twice (or more) before making that post.

And then there are those who just feel like joining, but are content with reading other people's posts, which are quite amusing and enjoyable sometimes.

But there is one point that comes against Lady Dragonfly's view, and that is that not many people actually participate in the polls, which is weird.

Having said all that. Threads as they currently are here in gamebanshee are great, even though they do end up going quite off-topic. There are both pros and cons to this:

Pro - very enjoyable reads
Pro - reveals more about the forum posters

Con - makes the forums seem a bit out of order
Con - makes it hard to get the info you want without reading through ALOT of posts, and if you don't read all the posts, you run the risk of repeating something earlier stated, which I have noticed in some threads (that is another thing that keeps me from posting).

Maybe something can be done to, for instance, have the thread fork at where relevant posts meet spam. I hope you guys understand what I'm getting at.

Well, at least I do.
But actually, the threads turning into offtopic isn't that big problem outside SYM. And in SYM, it's more like natural evolving of thread. In some cases, for example if the starter of the thread really wants to, getting off from topic is very restricted. In those cases the thread starter is usually requested to include some kind of note about it in the thread title (like "No Spam" or "Only mild spam on topic"). This usually means that the thread should stay on topic, and mods do great job in keeping posters in line.

Also, I'm not sure if the forum is able to support such forking system, because of the coding and style. And also, it sometimes makes it much harder to follow the thread, as there can be new post made every different fork and so on...

actually, if you really look at most of the actual game threads where people ask questions about a particular game, it is usually RIGHT on topic and our mods are GREAT at keeping them in line..... but here at SYM (speak your mind) off topic talk or spam can be quite common, and as kipi said, if you dont want your SYM thread to go off topic, adding "no spam" is a great way to make sure it doesnt happen. you do get used to it after a while

Because you mentioned it, I now know that it exists. Hence, mentioned = introduce. Can't ya do easy math?

I think this goes under "informed about" rather than "introduced". When I say, for example, "he introduced me to the joys of ice-skating" it means more or less that we went ice-skating together, he was more experienced in it than me, showed me how to do it, and I found pleasure in it. That's what most people will think, IMO.

Now adjust it to "Kipi introduced me to fish slapping"
