I like the reply to play Morrowind, but why not work backwards towards the first one. Sure there will be challenges for the first two, but Arena is still free as far as I know and is quite playable using the DOSBox program. That should keep you busy for the next several months.

just my 5 cents...

(it was my first post is like i lost some kind of virginity) :speech:
Seconded. DD has an awesome amount of detail and pretty decent quests. The whole world feels like it's a whole, not a random collection of towns.

For anyone who enjoyed Oblivion, stay as far away from Sacred 2 as you can. From an Oblivion perspective Sacred 2 is the worst game ever made.
Fallout 3 is more firearms than swords and magic, but the game style is very much like Oblivion.
I'll look into some of the titles mentioned here as I am looking for another Oblivion/Fallout 3 style game.

Says you, but it isn't true. Sacred 2 is a good game. Keep in mind that Sacred 2 is a hack&slash game, so that means slay enemies over and over. I guess it's just not your cup of tea. I like Sacred 2 myself and enjoy it much. There are tons of possibilities and you explore a huge world. The enemies may be a bit overwhelming, because of the quick respawn and sometimes huge numbers of them (like 10 kobolds chasing you together with 3 boars) You can choose from six unique characters, each with it's own skills. And with ice & blood there is one extra character added. Then, except on 2 characters, you choose the light or shadow campaign, choose deity and off you go. It takes some time to understand the game and to build a good build.
I have now used a guide from someone to play with a hybrid hunter dryad.
And i have played Oblivion also, with KotN and Shivering Isles.
But if you don't like Sacred 2 and if you search for something like Oblivion, then try Morrowind. Morrowind is the third Elder Scrolls game and much better then Oblivion. Much more possibilities and much more roleplaying.

Have you ever played Chrono Trigger?
