@SS: You hate gas prices in the US? One phrase for you:
Get over it.
We have some of the lowest gas prices in the world. The fact that Americans complain about that is incredibly stupid.
If you think gas prices in America are high then you don't know the laws of supply and demand. Since we have the highest demand in the world, we should have the highest prices.

Personally I think the oil companies have a choke hold on America. Almost everyone in the U.S. has to buy gas and oil, for most there is no way around it. Why do the oil companies have to charge $1.60 a gallon when it only costs them a couple cents to make it. I'm not one for government intervention, but in this case I think that the oil fields (especially the ones in the U.S.) should be publicly owned. I don't know if that would solve the problem or not but letting the oil companies have complete dominance over America isn't a great idea either.

You are definitley right by saying that Gaxx. We do need to do something about all this suburban sprawl that is invading areas that use to be wild, but with Bush in office I don't think that is going to happen.Originally posted by Gaxx_Firkraag:

Our gas prices should be a heckuva lot lower. We should be using our own oil instead of importing oil from everywhere else. But no, we have to import it from the expensive people, thus having to pay $1.30-$1.60(where I am) a gallon. I don't know the current gas prices in Canada, but last spring, gas was only about $.20-$.30 more in Canada than the part of the US I'm in when usually Canada's gas prices are a lot higher than the US, at least in the area of Canada where my friend lives. Gas prices is also one reason why I don't like Arizona. It's much cheaper for gas in Texas than in Arizona. It doesn't matter if it's $100 an ounce in other countries; you can't expect me to be happy about having to pay $20-$30 to fill up my 15 gallon gas tank every week. THAT'S MORE THAN I SPEND ON BOOKS IN A WEEK!!!!Originally posted by Quark:

Unless things have changed in the last couple of months, American oil fields being publically owned won't do any good. The gas we buy at the pump is from oil imported from the Middle East and/or other areas and we export our oil to other places. If we would use OUR oil instead of imported oil, gas would be a good deal cheaper.Originally posted by Azeroth:

Wrong, our gas prices should be higher according to demand.
The fact is, people in America will pay for it no matter how much they complain about it. You should consider yourself lucky that they aren't squeezing the US for all it's worth.
If you want lower gas prices, than you have to do something about it. Try your bike, car pools, or (to all Americans) get off the damn SUVs and buy an efficient car.
The only way prices will go lower is if demand goes down. But it won't, not with the way Americans think.
Just a question: do you think gas prices are bad compared to the early 90s? Cause they aren't. I read an article at a time w/in a year ago when prices were rising, but were $1.30 in my neighbourhood (the low reached $0.99). Guess what it said, adjusted for inflation we still had the best prices ever, excluding the drop right before.
Now prices in my neighbourhood are back down to $1.35 (as opposed to $1.75 high) - so we're still in damn good condition compared to what people paid before the huge drop in prices.
Instead of being like the rest of the idiotic Americans, learn about something before you complain about it. Gas prices are not high, they have not been high since the summer before the plummet. Knowing what inflation is might help you understand that.
Now you know my pet peeve about America, it's American Whiners Inc.

Come to England sweetie. What you pay for a gallon, we pay for a litre. It sucks bigtime.Originally posted by Sailor Saturn:

what makes me angry about the US? this may take a while. not being racist or anything, but, here goes:
really strong american accents (argh)
the fact that they've stolen and cannabalised the english language, by twisting and replacing words (its colour, not color, for example)
sports: its football, not soccer. when you play american football a player may kick the ball(which isnt even a ball) about twice in a game. we can only kick the ball in football (hence the name). if you want to hold the ball, play rugby, they're almost the same thing.
they get computer games months before us. and dont tell us its translating time, because we speak the same damn language.
they also get different versions of the same game, which is stupid because they are exactly the same, except we (english) have to download different patches.
and one last thing: why do americans get about 500 more TV channels than we do?
wow, thats a lot of complaints
