Mindless action in a Sci-Fi setting. Besides, I'm a fan of the book and game as well. But, the acting is bad, thats why I have First Contact in there as well.

Any body passing through solid matter will leave a perforation conforming to its perimeter. Also called the silhouette of passage, this phenomenon is the speciality of victims of directed-pressure explosions and of reckless cowards who are so eager to escape that they exit directly through the wall of a house, leaving a cookie-cutout-perfect hole. The threat of skunks or matrimony often catalyzes this reaction.

I'm a Trekkie and proud of it!

Don't worry though, I'm not hard-core Trekkie. I just like the shows and movies, not the books or conventions and crap like that.

I don't know, I thought Troopers was OK...It's Verhoeven right? I liked Robocop too. He has a style.

My vote for best sci-fi movie?
Repo Man!!!
Ok seriously after that I would put -

1. 2001 - but I am the biggest Kubrick fan
2. Star Wars
3. Blade Runner
4. The Terminator
5. Alien or Aliens they're both good, Aliens one of few good sequels ever.
6. The Black Hole or Tron - Ha Ha Ha Ha does anyone remember these?

I thought the abyss was pretty hollow plot wise. Didn't enjoy it much...

I watched "Cross of Iron" the other night. I had forgotten how much of an awesome movie this is and how under-reated it is. Sam Peckinpah was a genius and James Coburn was perfectly cast.

The Wild Bunch too - fantastic. :D

The worst movie at this time most be Final Fantasie, I havend seen it jet but the trailer is so bad...

In the trailer you hear the women say: This shoudn't be happening!NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO......

This sound really bad, it's like when se yells NOOOO ect.
she's thinking about going home after a long day's work, and while she's thinking this she's picking her nose.

And the specail affects aren't so good niether.

This film is in one word: Bleh!

(pretty stong opinion from someone who has't seen it jet, eh? But usually I'm right about these things.)

Aegis: The Abyss isn't that bad with the plot. I liked it anyway ;)

Rob-hin: Hmmmm... To each their own I guess. But I don't really think you can criticise the movie without even watching it. Even if you have seen the preview.

I ran out and saw Final Fantasy opening weekend, and I liked it...I knew it was doomed because of the universally bad reviews, but I think a lot of that is just sour grapes. The movie has its strong points and weak points in terms of plot, voice acting etc, but c'mon...it is a landmark in technology. Although people rejected it, the technology it showcases IS the future, whatever anyone says...

I mentioned "TRON" earlier in this thread. It was the first (as far as I know) movie that used computer graphics on the same frame as live action. (Star Trek II the wrath of khan had a completely computer generated sequence) Everyone laughed at how bad TRON was, but here we are 25 years later and every movie has computer graphics in frame...well the technology in final fantasy is the next step.

i thought The Wild Bunch was great BTW. Does anyone remember the Monty Python skit called "Sam Peckinpah's Salad Days"?

What about:

"Because he tasks me....He tasks me..."?

I think that 'Khan' was Ricardo Montalban's finest hour, no doubt.

Like the style of say, Showgirls, or Total Recall... :p :D

Actually I quite like Starship Troopers, but I wouldn't say it was the best sci-fi movie ever... ;)

@Aegis... Interview With A Vampire?!? *splutter*

Some of my faves, in no particular order... American History X, LA Confidential, Usual Suspects, La Vita E Bella, Stand By Me, The Power of One, The Thomas Crown Affair (1999 remake), Terminator, Night of the Hunter, The Third Man, Dead Poets Society... :D

Final Fantasy... well, what's the point in spending so much money creating great FX, if you're not going to put money into getting a decent script as well? :p The FX may be good, but they don't make a good movie. It's not the worst movie around at the moment though... ummm, Jurassic Park 3, anyone? :D

Tron  ROFL... sadly unavailable, our filmsoc tried to get it for our summer film festival this year :D

@Veh and you called Aegis a trekkie? :p

Friend of mine... (no seriously, it's not me, it really is a friend of mine) actually has Tron on DVD :D

Haven't seen Final Fantasy yet, or Jurassic Park... but from what I've seen it just looks like more of the same panning and zooming on on the faceless expressions of Sam Neil before another cast member gets eaten. Seen it, done it, ate the t-shirt to prove it ;) :D

Hey, I'm no trekkie, I just love saying KHAAAAAAAAAAAAN! :D It's... William... Shatner... With... every... single... word... being... it's... own... sentence... It's.. just.... too... coooool. ;) :D
