Well in Australia, it's compulsory to vote once you turn 18. :D

Any body passing through solid matter will leave a perforation conforming to its perimeter. Also called the silhouette of passage, this phenomenon is the speciality of victims of directed-pressure explosions and of reckless cowards who are so eager to escape that they exit directly through the wall of a house, leaving a cookie-cutout-perfect hole. The threat of skunks or matrimony often catalyzes this reaction.

-9 libertarian

-5 left

Im sorry but this is simplistic and does not represent my political standing.

they are right in saying the left right scale is inadquat but their model is flawed and their question doesnt seem to work in establishing the correct position (for me at least) :(

Me and my boss just played a little game of it, he did the test and i took the test from his POV, making assumptions about his character. I ended up being about .25 away from his actual score weird hey ;) :)

Lawks! I'm a liberal democrat and I didn't even know it!!

Economic Left/Right: -1.13
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -4.10

Simon Hughes and Charles Kennedy. Hmm.

My problem with this survey is the deliberate engineering (as with all surveys).

Now, you couldn't have a "don't know" section, what's the point? But why only "disagree" and "agree". Where are the "I don't give a rat's ass" and "why are you asking me this stoopid question" options.

All I can say is, I'm as far away from Stalin and Hitler as is possible, if any of you ever had any doubts... :)

the two concepts are quite alien to eachother. the nazis hated communism, as would any fascist.

Economic Left/Right: -1.88
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -5.08

I am also a Simon Hughes - whoever he is...

It was interesting to see Tony blair only a smidgen left of Hague :D

Other than Red Ken and Mr Benn, the UK politicians are ALL right wing authoritarians. That explains a lot :D

'New Labour' or old Tory? ;)

Yshania, do you think our similar views are a product of a Northern upbringing? :D

@Gruntboy - I think it is very strong possibility. The type of 'communities' we grew up in do not often exist in more cosmopolitan areas like London.

As we discussed in the other thread, the part of country you come from often dictates your party political bias (even if you did not know you had one!)

Some parts of this country will always be left (even though I now know they are all right winged authoritarians! :D ) and some parts of the country will always be 'right'.

The right winged constituencies are fewer, and constituencies can not be considered strongholds as they were 25+ years ago...our local council is 'hung'

So if we are talking political as in parties, where we grew up might have an effect - but only if you vote for that party because it is expected of you.

If we are discussing political leanings as in attitudes - then I think we can be more positive that it was our upbringing - maybe watered down a little for those of us who have considered the wider world beyond our back yard and adopted a more open minded approach... ;)

Like 14 odd years in London and I still have a Yorkshire accent, though a broader horizon, twenty odd years in a mining village fundementally I am still a Northerner at heart...

I learned a lot of what I know up North, but I did all my growing up down south. The current balance is a misfit :D

The biggest thing London did for me was open my eyes.... ;)

@Georgi whoops, but then I was thinking more on who you would expect over the left and who you were to expect over the right. I didn't really give him any consideration...or Simon whatshisface :D

It just proves to me that we are in fact a one party state and that even the 'Lefties' who find the true lefties a source of amusement...now we know why... :D

Proportional representation?! :D They would all be moderate right except 4 lefties and as many NF representatives all chasing their own tails...

What would change? And lets face it, any new laws have to be approved by the house of right wing leaning men with big purses to protect anyway... :)

I am going to petition for an 'abstination' box on the voting card :D
