light is not what a lightsaber is made of, it's made of energy.
Light is an energy, just to point out. Lightsabers do emit light. It's the spectrum of light that they emit that determines their color. Since black is not a spectrum of light, lightsabers can't emit it. Even if a lightsaber were to emit no light, it would just be clear then, it still wouldn't be black. For a lightsaber to be black, it would have to absorb light. It thus, wouldn't be a lightsaber, but a different kind of technology.

you could already get silver in number 2 but it wud b cwl if you cud get gold or black.
They cud come up with stuff like new styles of saber instead of sintgle, short and doubles. i got XBOX 360 mag and they advertised new styles of saber in (THE FORCE UNLEASHED)

New styles of lightsabers just wouldn't seem to be effective.
A lightaxe?
Axes depend on focusing the weight of their blade in order to deal damage, but a lightaxe's blade would be weightless.
A lightwhip?
The range is nice, but what happens when an opponent uses his lightsaber to smack your whip to the side? Then you're completely open to an attack from him. It's not as easy to smack an opponents sword to the side as it would be to smack a whip. This is because a sword has a tang, where as a whip doesn't. It's the equivalent of pushing someone over who doesn't have bones in thier body. A lightsaber should win out almost every time against a lightwhip.
It seems to me, that when using a weightless weapon, the sword is the perfect design/shape. Other weapons depend on weight, such as hammers and axes.
What happens when you make a lightaxe? You make a weapon that has an unnecessarily long handle and a shorter blade than on a lightsaber. The long handle makes it more likely that your opponent will just slice through your lightsabers handle as happened to Darth Maul's double-blade handle. The shorter blade on an axe also makes it so you have less of a weapon to block with. Opposed to a sword, who's longer blade makes it easier to block. The lightaxe will also do no more damage than a lightsaber, since its blade is weightless.

Wow....its a Star Wars game, not science class. Not everything is Star Wars can be explained throught science and im sure there not going to spend alot of time trying to explain this with science and stuff.

agreed. fiction is fiction and entertainment. leave it at that. if you tried to scientifically explain every movie, game, and/or story, you'd have to either:
- A) realize that such fiction is impossible and inexplicable, or
- B) break A LOT of scientific rules
new saber styles may be ineffective (or effective, but less so than the sword-type), but it would still look sweet. personally, i think a halberd-style would look awesome. not the double-blade, but a LONG (ie. 1.5-2 meters) hilt, with a saber on the end (same length as the regular kind). it would give a longer reach if you were to try and stab your opponent instead of slicing them.

Actually, there are books part of the canonical EU that try to make sense of SW tech. I haven't read any of them, I only have knowledge of them, as I'm not really a hardcore SW fan. The previous were just facts I can basically point out. Any dignified sci-fi storyteller tries to have some consistency of science in their story about... science-fiction. Thats just my observation, of sci-fi writers, that when they write something like a planet being really close to a sun, they try to be consistent and make that planet very hot or something.

One thought. A darkside character does not necessarily need to have a red-bladed lightsaber and a lightside character are not prohibited from one. I KotOR I, I used a red blade for a LS sentinel once, because I found naturally red crystals on Dantooine. The thing is that jedi use natural crystals (which can be in any shade of colour imaginable) whilst dark jedi and sith often opt for artificial crystals (for a bit more OMPF (or possible bzzzt)) who are ALWAYS red. Thus a LS char could use a red lightsabre, and most newly fallen dark jedi use their old lightsabres, whether blue or green or whatnot.
Personally I like the yellow of the sentinels. Simple and elegant.

Would that make it a blacksaber?

i really dont think that its such a good idea
to have your saber change color based on your allignment with the force,it would add too much of a "Fable" feeling to it.Plus it would restrict a lot of "option fun" from the game.
I mean, they're are some LS char. that played with the red saber, for a numerous ammout of reasons and DS char. who played with different colored sabers also.
As far as lightsaber colors, and style goes,
if the games released on the 360, it'll have "next gen." graphics, which means MORE DETAIL.
So maybe have an option that allows you to make a custom color saber,as your first one in the game, from the color of the blade, right down the color and details of the hilt.
ANYBODY AGREE THAT, THAT WOULD BE A GREAT IDEA?

Yes, that would be a great thing. And sorely needed. The bland aluminium tubes we have been given for two games really doesn't look that good any longer.
And concerning colourchanging lightsabres, more than being a little to alike Fable, it's completely against SW canon. Which I've already accounted for above.

I think that an excellent coloured lightsaber would be black or gold and also it would be great if you could change your lightsaber hilt as well.

What about a "rainbow lightsaber"? A lightsaber that constantly changes it's colour randomly, or according to the situation.
A nicely coloured hilt would be nice too.

Colorful Lightsaber
there is something called a "blackbody" and its not a black person with a good looking body. I refers to electromagnetism of light the properties of it a Blackbody is perfect for a lightsaber based on what it does...now the only thing that can neutralize it would be a solaris saber which in tern will be neutralized and they both will function as normal sabers minus the other properties in the hilt.
Black lightsaber properties
1. :devil:It absorbs the oppenents light saberpowers and it emits back ( + what ever stone is in the hilt)
2.
against the solaris saber the full spectrum is seen upon clashing
Black light saber is possible ...And black is not the absence of light black is the absorption of light where gravity is so heavy light can':mischief:t escape

I suppose they could use a mood stone for the crystal inside the saber.

how would it monitor mood, though? do you just bring up a screen and change your mood to whatever you feel like, as one might do with Top Friends on Facebook? seems kind of off, to me. somehow, though, i doin't think it was a serious comment

i reckon a gold lightsaber hilt with a silver blade would look sweet, it could be like a relic for the siths glory days or something

But why a lightsaber "crystal"? You can use lots of stuff instead of crystals such as physical remains, shards of glass, and even special micro machinery.
