I did do that as you suggested. But that takes lots of money and I do not have that amount to bring my weapon up to +10. Unless you know of another way ???.
I have stood back and tried to resurrect my side kicks but when the Fire Element shows up and the Dragon, it's futile.

The maker can be difficult with certain builds, from my experience of playing the game with quite a few different characters. You don't actually have to kill the maker to advance the game, all you need to do is get the golems on your side (which I assume you've already done). The only benefit to killing the maker is if you are a mage type character as then you can get some nice items and build your own golem. If you cannot afford upgrades to your weapons you can always go away and do other areas in Chapter 2 then come back again later on

Ok, I'm glad to hear that. I thought I could go no further if I didn't kill this thing. I guess I can go back to chapter 2, but I think I have done everything there. What about advancing to chapter 4 ,, can I do that ?.

Everything in the areas you can access in the Underdark at this time is Chapter 2, so by going to do other things I mean either the other island or explore the other areas of the Underdark (there are 2 islands and 3 other main areas in Chapter 2, plus the bits you need to go through to get to these areas).
