I'm in Arizona, but this still has me scared. My parents are at the VA hospital(dad happened to have an appointment there today...) and a place like that, even though it is in Tuscon, Arizona could very easily be targetted by these kinds of Terrorist attacks.

My God! the very thought of targetting hospitals I would not put it below them now...

No you did not see them land. These people were JUMPING!! way before the towers went down. It is SO tragic...

What no-one has discussed on the news are the casualties on the ground...these are massively built up areas...the speculation on the total is running into tens of thousands...

I've just seen this two things spring to mind
WWIII and if they are willing to give their lives to put through their messege(whatever the phsycos messege is) dieing isn't going to stop all of them, more of the cult if their smart as it seems(make them come to one place blow that up) they won't let all of them get caught.
And why did the twin towers calapse most the damage was near the top did it shake it like and earth quake would? there has to have been a bomb.

That is the number I've heard also - and this is in NY without the passengeres on the planes.
But they fear it is much higher, because nobody knows how many people were on the top floors of the WTC-buildings.
Also after the first plane had hit, the people in tower 2 were told to stay inside the tower because they were safe in there.

Yeah - mine to, but there is an awful long way from Denmark to US - especially now.
I don't think even blodplasma would be able to cross the border for the next couple of days.
I think they will redirect all blood inside the states to NY.

It is hard to comprehend the casualty list...and all the hospitals (in that what? 300 mile radius?) are so desperate.

These casualties cannot physically travel further than that...

Probably the bood supply of the US will be depleated in the comming weeks, and by that time international supplies may be used to re-stock at that time. Pure conjecture on my part, though.

I wouldn't expect the screening process to be altered at all. Pure, clean blood will surely be available, but our stocks will be depleted. I would assume that blood given now will be used to re-stock later.

@Craig: The explosion from the planes would have shaken the foundation of the towers.
Also when the top of the buildings collapses, it took more of the lower floors with it.
EDIT: also the following fire would have weakend the foundation significantly.

That is a tragic fact. The emergency services at the time were advised against entering. A vast amount of the people were above the floors the planes hit...

What i want to no is WHO THE ****ING HELL ARE THEY

Economical effects of this action is already visible.
The price of oil has increased 4$ for a barrel(sp?) to over 30$.
The OPEC countries have said that they will secure the supply, so a shortage will not be likely.

There will probably be several hours until any official information is released...It must have been a vast number of killed and injured in such a dense area...

Like you and Xan I wish there was something I could do, but I can't even donate blood - to low body weight...

why would oil prices be effected?
i can understand if several markets fall dramtically, but oil should be uneffected. i heard that abotu the price raising as well, i just don't think it makes sense.
but then again, nothign has made sense today
