Pfft! A KotOR MMO would just be the latest in a long list of massive disappointments for me. Mass Effect advertised as an Action/RPG when there was hardly any RP at all. Dragon Age trailer showed off a massive battle that looked like a Strategy game. Fallout 3, well, can you spell Oblivion...among others.

My grandsons play MMO's, and how do they play?! They join and then dash in and kill anybody and everybody in sight. What they did in Guild Wars and WoW, and others that I can't remember now. All they want is to be "powerful" and get all the loot they can. They could have cared less if there was a story or not.

I loved both KotOR games, but if it does go MMO, I will not be playing. (Not that EA or BioWare will care a whit.) I am not enthused by any MMO, and have never been inclined to throw away my money playing one...

I prefer a really good story to a lot of combat, although I appear to be in the minority these days. Planescape: Torment's story really drew me in emotionally and I have yet to find another game that can do that, even though there are games I like and play more than once. Most people today seem to want battle after battle, and don't want to bother with the story anymore. Well, with an MMO, that's exactly what they will get. No story and lots of battles.

Perhaps those of us that do like strong story-driven RPG's are in the minority these days but I'm holding off on passing judgment on this new Star Wars MMORPG until more details are known. BioWare management have stated that they want to put the RPG back into MMORPG so I'm interested in seeing how they're going to do that.

Im sad, my computer has been down since June and i come back and all my kotor dreams have gone to hell. Its sucks that industries are more driven by making money, then by making quality games. Maybe an MMO is needed to set up a story for Kotor 3 to come. The Kotor series was based on story and an MMO will destroy any attempted at a stoyline. :(

As much as it pains me to agree with what you said, you are 100% right. Money is everything these days. I always thought that the goal was to make a great game and the profit will come. Shenmue is another example of a great game that didn't bring in the revenue expected so the series has been shut down for 7 years. However, I do think there is hope for the KOTOR series simply because it has produced a "Game of the Year." KOTOR III will eventually be made, the only question is when. I really don't want to wait much longer though.

MakeTheGame, this is, after all, a capitalist world we're living in. However if it would be up to me to decide, I wouldn't be so sure if KotOR III would be so (financially) rewarding to the producers if it was a MMORPG. As Mission Vao already said, MMORPGs never have a good storyline, and neither would KotOR III (if it was a MMORPG, that is). What I'm trying to say is, how many Star Wars fans would they find out there, willing to give this MMORPG a shot? Most SW fans have already tried out the first two additions to the KotOR video game franchise, and as you can see, most of them (with a few exceptions) would hate to see KotOR III as a MMORPG.

And yes, I'm new here. Hi, everyone.

after reading everyones comments, etc about the possibility of an MMORPG vs RPG, this is what i have to say:

i was a fan of SWG when it first came out. it wasn't based off level, but skill points, etc (yes there was a bit of grinding) but i really enjoy playing with other people! PVP, in my opinion, is great when it comes to Star Wars (as long as it's balanced).

I'm sure that if they make an MMORPG based in the old republic timeline, do not fear, i'm sure they will make a KOTOR that would be a prequel or sequel to KOTOR II. They would be stupid not to! Perhaps, with the money they start making with the MMO, they can then have the proper funding to put in the time and effort of putting out a complete product for another KOTOR installment. Just think, if they didn't have money, running into timelines, having to cut things out last minute to make the game playable, does KOTOR II ring a bell? so many unfinished details in that game, it was sickening. the game was still fun, nontheless, but they probably ran out of funding, or didn't have enough funding to put forth the effort to meet the timelines. manpower, etc. so, if an successful MMO does come out (i'm sure it will be if Bioware has anything to do with it) then that will give them a nice boost in the $$ Monies $$ to put out a completed finished project.

that's my 2 cents!

i'll enjoy whichever game they come out with, i'm hoping it's an MMO because someone needs to show up SOE and their bad decision making processes, because i "sense" that there will be an RPG following close behind.

Chromo, you have a pretty good idea. Haha the making of Kotor 3 all depends on the outcome ($) of the mmo. So if we want Kotor 3, we have to buy the mmo. Or they will realize that they were stupid to make it in the first place and go to work on Kotor 3 right away!!!! To make up for their loss in sales! Boycott MMO!

I can not agree more. Though the mmo might be an alright game, it can not compare to the standards that myself and all others on this forum want

I think that the idea of KotOR 3 being a mmo is bad. I dont really like them (possibly because im unable to play them (due to my bastard parents lol :laugh :) ) but i will be alright with it if its like one of those ones with a single player game as well, like age of empires.

KoToR III and MMO?

okay i have played SWG beta thru pre cu to cu and nge, that game was really great, u could explore with friends or by yourself, i really enjoyed it, with this rumor of a MMO set in the KoToR era i think that a really great MMO could be made at the same time of not destroying what the first game and secound game started. i would almost like to see it set before the first two games began, like durning the mandalorian wars. have 4 different factions that u could choose from and kind of balance them out. just like the professions like in swg. i hope they make an MMO and an actually KOTOR III.

I hope you used more punctuation when you wrote to Bioware...
While I'm not sure that petitions are really the way that gaming decisions are made at LA - if they're laying off staff, it's because they don't have the money to employ them, and as much as we all want K3, unless we buy it 2 years in advance it might be difficult to fun - on the other hand, there's a lot of signatures on that petition. I suppose it's better to be doing something than nothing!

just incase you guys didn't see the story on the front page, Bioware and Lucusarts are announcing the project they have been working on for a while on Oct. 21. hopefully its kotor.

i really hope it is obi-wan-evan :)

however, i would be disapointed if it is an MMO. there is little basis for storylines in this format and the way kotor 1 and 2 plays it wont work as a multiplayer fullstop. (or period, if your a yankee.)

Plus, i loved how things changed according to the way you acted. you know, juhani hates you cause your mean 2 her, bastila loves you cause you flirt. it would be hard to pull these kind of things off in a multiplayer game.

there are benefits for MMO, but im banking most of the Lucas arts/osbidian/bioware folks had the same thought patterns as us humble game players and saw fit to keep it on xBox.

i really reckon it should stay on Xbox. (or 360, but i cant afford one :( )

Marko

ps sorry if my view is a tad repetitive but i just wanted to say my bit.
