Godfather: Shares # 1 on my list of movies. So it's the greatest movie of all times, although it shares that honor with several other movies.
Pt. 2: Although often said to be better than thje original, IMO it's no where near as good.
Pt. 3: Rather pathetic. Has nothing worth seeing, except for a few great vintage Pacino scenes.
Empire of The Sun: Very good movie. Although I think it gets a bit tedious towards the end, it has some great scenes, great preformances by Christian Bale, John Malkovich, Joe Pantoliano (Joey Pants) and Ben Stiller (small part, but worth a mention).
It also has a wonderfull (BAFTA winning) John Williams score. If you want to get hooked, some how get a hold of the track 'Jim's new life'.
I've actualy never seen Pi. I loved Aronofsky's (SP) Requiem for a Dream, but never thought I'd like Pi. Could you give a short, spoiler free summary?
Goodfellas: My favorite Scorsese. A brilliant movie, which should have swept the oscars if it weren't for the way overated Dances with wolves. I know most people would choose Taxi Driver or Raging Bull, but I love gangsters, and could tell you anything you want to know about them.
Matrix: One of the most overated movies of all time. Simply a SFX vehicle. Give me Dark City over Matrix any day.
A few of my own:
Dr. strangelove
The Man that shot Liberty Valance
Patton
The French Connection
Raiders and Crusade
Schindler's List
A Man for all Seasons
Dogma
The Rock
Great Expectations (David Lean's)
The Bridge on the River Kwai
Lawrence of Arabia
The guns of Navarone
The Caine Mutiny
12 Angry Men
A Rebel Without a cause
Stalag 17
Some Like it Hot
It Happened one night
It's a wonderfull life
....to name one or two
