I am going to be a spoil sport again. But after 4 weeks what do we do? Call the police and tell them that some internet website is worried about a guy they have never met before? That would sound suspect. I know i am not helping, but i don't want to bring undue attention to the website for stalking people. This is not a kosher situation.

If in 4 weeks we have nothing and no contact with him, I do not wish to go to the police. I certainly don't wish to contact any formal authorities unless we have concrete information. I know this is not what most people want to hear, but i think its the safest course for all of us including Buck.

If it comes to that, I'm willing to make the call. I'd probably be running the least risk of legal consequences, if any. And one doesn't have to call in the name of the forum or even mention the forum.

I tend to view contacting the police as a final resort, were we to even go that step....

There are still other avenues we could try before that...

*See if we can find him through a McDonald's in the Rochester area
*See if his ISP can help in any way
*There is the option of some newspaper ads, but I really don't care for this idea at all because it is way too much of a crap shoot

However, I don't think we are doing anything wrong. We are simply concerned about the well being of somebody who is part of our community. When people go missing in RL communities it is standard to search for them; it's just basic human behaviour. The problem is that the whole Internet thing is so fraught with complications. Because, yes, there is a risk that we could be perceived as stalking Mag. Also, there are still a lot of people who do not understand the concept of Net friendships and communities, it is still pretty bizarre for many.

Though, I do think it also depends on how we word ourselves and handle it.
For example, it would not be wise to go barging in and demanding information from the police. Far better, would be to simply phone them up, explain the situation, explain that we are aware of the various complications, and ask if they can offer any advice. This indicates we do not wish to break any laws, and it also makes us less likely to appear as stalkers.

Moreover,
If we spoke to the police, we could say we fully understand there is no way they can release any personal details to us, but perhaps, if it is possible, might they be willing to contact him on our behalf, and he can get back to us if he so chooses.
Though... given Mag's views on the police and authority... he'd be pretty freaked out to hear from them I imagine.... *sigh*

@Lestat,
thanks for that offer btw. It's probably not a bad idea.

I was just wondering if Magrus attends any type of school? Does anyone know of any other forum that he may attend to see if he has logged on any of them these past few weeks? I'm just making suggestions so we dont have resort to anything that might not be a wise choice...yet.I know dont Magrus on a personal note like the rest of you do.....does Mag have a condition that might make this even more serious than a disappearance?

Yes mag has a serious medical condition. Yes we have tried proboards (hes the Administrator) and other forums that he posts on. His GB post is the last trace we can find anywhere :(

@Slade,
to the best of my knowledge. Magrus does not attend a school.
He's in his early 20s, and a number of his recent posts seem to indicate he works at McDonald's, hence the reason why contacting the franchises in his area is an option.

Now that makes sense to me. I see no problem in the way you describe it.

Oh thanks...I wonder if maybe he has started attending a college and has been too busy to talk to us.....unfortunately the logical reason would be that his illness has acted up..I dont mean to be mean or anything but generally that maybe the case, does anyone know what medical illness he has? As far as Emails are concerned have you emailed him?....I dont know for you, but for me if you havent logged in your account for more than a month it gets terminated...hopefully thats not the case in why he has not responded..

Weve explored all most all options (within legal limits) He hasnt responded to anything since 10/5/05

Well if the account is terminated we would get e-mails bounced back. The e-mails are going through. So the e-mail accounts are active. Many of us have e-mailed him.

His condition i would describe as extremely serious and we are all worried about him, for that very reason.

We have tried, e-mails, pms, msn, yahoo etc etc. We got his IP address to see if we could get additional information.

We know where he lives so people have been searching through the newspapers for any information they can get on him.

Some of us have a sense of his medical condition, yes. Though, because of confidentiality issues, the information is not being distributed far and wide. Suffice to say, it is serious enough to warrent concern.
Yes, various people have tried emailing him and PMing him, he has not responded to anyone. I tried sending something to his Hotmail account, and I got a note back saying my message was undeliverable, which does suggest it has been terminated....
However, I do think it is premature to leap to any conclusions because Hotmail does require you to log in every 30 days, which is not a lot. I know I have to make a point of signing into that account, because the only reason I still use it is that it is connected with my MSN.

Today googled his "First Name Last Name" (as one string and with certain restrictions to keep more popular namesakes out of it + recent). Zilch.
