Haruka-papa and Michiru-mama are my parents. They adopted me when I was little, so I call them Haruka-papa and Michiru-mama.

I guess you could call it a 'chick thing' actually, since they're both women. But I wouldn't recommend saying that to them, you might get hit over the head with a violin or run over by a motorcycle.

Actually, I've been hit over the head with a violin once before. Didn't like it so I'll stick with the not saying "it's a chick thing" to your parents

Big on the whole anime thing I see... Escaflowne isn't bad, I prefer Cowboy Bepop though.

Very much so. I once fell for this young lady...met her over the net, talked a bunch, started talkin on the phone, eventually got to hang with her in person...ya know, the typical long distance meet over the net thing. Anyways, after knowing her so long without even seeing her in person, i couldn't describe her to any of my friends. I actually thought maybe most wouldn't consider her all that attractive, but too me she was so beautiful. Of course, some of my friends met her and thought she was a hottie. So i know what you mean.

Duh, i mean being a guy prolly gives my opinion bias, but the female body is definitely a thing of beauty. Especially when you compare it to the male body!

This might sound strange, but I actually don't mind strangers looking at me as if I were a piece of meat, since I regard myself as being a among other things[b/], also a piece of meat. (I think of Björk's "Bachelorette", the first line is "I'm a fountain of blood/in the shape of a girl").

I view every person including myself, as having physical attributes as well as emotional, intellectual and personality attritbutes. To a person who does not know me and has never spoken to me, I am of course merely my looks, since he knows nothing else. So I don't find it more degrading to be seen as merely a sexual, physical woman-shaped piece of tissue, than to be seen as an abstract, intellectual production unit only. I want all people I learn to know to consider all the different modalities in me, that a human being consists of

I look at men, maybe not the "elevator-style" gaze Garcia describes, but I certainly look at their face, body, posture, coordination, movement style etc. My lady friends describe similar behaviour patterns, you automathically evalute a man's attractiveness both sexually/physically and personality-wise.

Of course there are people around who reduce others to merely sex objects, but is it any better to be reduced to an income provider or a status measurement? I think men and women at group level reduce each other equally much, the channels/expression just differ depending on gender roles in the specific time and culture.

I must admit that i agree with much of what CE says (and i am not just sucking up like Veh ) a person is always judged on appearence unless you have talked to that person before meeting them and even then ther ewouls still be a degree of analysis involved.

I, also, agree with CE (and I'm probably sucking up to boot , just like brother Vehemence), but her outlook is in the minority, and the majority of women will be insulted by the elevator look. It is difficult to tell by looking (conundrum there!) whether a woman will appreciate a too-long gaze or not.

I look for a very patient person (I am NOT the easiest person to get along with) , that doesn't smoke, with a nice body, good teeth(NOTHING is worse than a gnarled up grille ), long hair, and lots of inheritance.

I think that it depends on the nature of the gaze rather than the length. To be eyed appreciatively or flirtatiously is flattering, to be ogled is not. It's difficult to know where that dividing line is though, and I would guess that it varies according to the individual.
Which, of course, makes things very difficult for would be gazers.

Another problem is that some men are hypocrites, they enjoy staring at women, but they become disconcerted or even angry if the look is returned in equal measure.

Men and women do not tend to look at each other in a vacuum. I think if one is respectful yet curious at first, they can get a sense of whether the energy is there so that gazing may be appropriate.

BTW, I found what CE had to say intelligent, intriguing and enlightening.

@C E: A scientist, and a Philosper! You just keep amazing me. You are also the first woman I have ever heard (Read?) those words from before. But, how would you define someone that is staring at you as a sex object, as opposed to the decent guys, who are thinking of more than sex? I mean, that could be considered a very fine line. If I were to look at a woman, and say something like "I'd love get into bed with her" That does't necessarly mean I just want sex from her. It shows it's a big a part of it, but not the full part.

At the same time, someone could say some crap like, "I think your beuatiful" and it's all just a line. That person may just want the sex, not anything. If telling what a person thinks is that cryptic, and fine when you hear the words, tell me how you would tell when a guy checks you out?
