Waverly's improved invisibility wears off. He had been lurking throughout the sphere and spied much of interest Image Waverly will never tell what drow females do to relax when their sleep is fitful...

Waverly(in bizzare russio-scottish accent): "Goodmorning, we have much to do and I would like to get an early start" <why does this statement seem so appropriate?>

Waverly: "Ubik, you also were going to tell me more about this 'power'?"

Wondering at the wisdom of going back to the temple of helm so soon after he stole the high watchers silver underpants (what a price they fetched!), Gruntboy still feels exhilirated at the task in hand. Normally cautious at such a turn in events, some other-wordly mental suggestion is at work.

Never mind, he thinks, shaking the doubt from his head. Action at last. He steps briskly away from Ubik and the Drow bitch and dissapears between 2 golems. Leaving the shere into the sewers he rapidly scales the nearest ladders onto the streets of the slums - it is still dark and no time can be spared wandering around in the sewers. Yet in his haste he fails to notice the eyes following him from the last sewer junction.

The cold night air bites into him and his cloak draws around his body - more to blend him into the remaining shadows than to ward off the elements. Apart from the tailing pair of eyes, not a soul can track him as he moves quickly to the temple district.

"I'll show Ubik, no thievery is beyond me. With or without Waverly. I'll be back before he's finished with Weasel"

Note: [Its morning but still dark out - only an hour of light left, anyone who wants to catch GB is gonna have to be quick. 2 posts and I'll have that book!]

At last it finish. This place seems good but i miss copper cor... err planet sphare already.
Listening small talk between TW and Aerie; Fallout wants to avoid any other conversations and after a quick nod he starts to fallow up TW. Smelling some nice smells he cursed himself. He should ask for kitchen.

Waverly: "Never mind for now, I suppose I am to accompany GB? I am off"

Waverly: Dissapears again, And is soon sloshing through the sewers towards their goal. "GB, maybe you would like to hear about what I found last night."

@Ubik, what jealous? Last time I checked gollems were pretty oblivious to improved inv. (as are drow clerics) Image

Gruntboy rounds the corner at the temple of helm. Waverly climbs out a nearby sewer grate... (heh)

GB- "Tell me later, we don't have much time left - it'll be light soon"

W- "But..."

GB- "No subtlety, you take the closest guard then wait for me outside, if we're heard you'll have to get us out of here"

Shimieing up the wall and onto the gutter is no problem and GB is soon ready, above the 2 guards. Waverly casts sleep, a simple but underated spell. Surprised at the way his heavy handed attack is subverted, GB drops to the ground and slits the guards throats. "That'll stop them calling for help."
The doors to Helm are never closed, and he slips inside, pulling his cloak tight once again...

Waverly: "You take the lead since you seem to know your way around in here. DO NOT grab that book until we figure out how to confuse the gollems. And another thing to think about: why did he tell us not to read the book?"

No-one interrupts their dasdardly work, another brilliant burglary by the Gruntster!

The temple is begiining to stir in the early hours. No initiate or acolyte sees the thief-turned-fighter slip around the statues and embossed pillars. "All seeing eye my...", 2 armored guards pass the now silent and still shadow. Continuing on, GB passes a door that calls to him - Ubik you scoundrel, how do you do that?! Disarming the magical ward on the door and picking the simple lock, GB pads quietly down the stairs in the subterranean passage.

Outside, a paladin leading a squad of guards is approaching the temple entrance...

[sorry, getting ahead of myself. You going to stay outside and do something about the guards or are you going to follow me and close the door behid you? I'm off down this corridor Image]

I just remembered, I left 2 bodies out there Image

Waverly follows quietly, a wizard eye glides silently from his hand and takes a postion at point.

edit: waverly is with grunt, he is not going to loose sight of the book. As for the bodies...waverly is not big on the wisdom, and there they remain. Looks like we are going to cause a commotion Image Don't worry, I am well rested and have a plan.

OK -

W- Some guards are going to know we're here REAL soon.

GB- Alright, maybe that wizard eye can help us search, fast.

The corridor holds many side chambers. The trapped and warded entrances are no match for a comination of GB's experience at romving traps and Waverly's wizard eye setting them off and taking the damage.

GB- heh, they'll know we're down here now (a magic missile trap hits the eye with a crash). Wait! This samll door here - it bears the mark.

Ignoring the countless treasures in the other rooms, GB attempts the lock.

GB- its no good, its too complex, we need to break it down. I hope Tymora blessed with you a strength spell mage?

Waverly: "My powers are never to be referred to as a 'blessing'.
Waverly: cast strength:GB
Waverly: stoneskin: GB,Waverly

As GB smashes the door with his new found strength, Waverly begins to concentrate... moments later 3 gleeming swords take a position gaurding hallway to the smashed door.

Waverly: "There is a lot more commotion upstairs than there should be this early, is this how all thieving goes?"

GB - Most thievery is the silent death - we have no time for that this morn my good mage!

As guards fill the corridor, battling the conjured swords, GB disarms more wards on a huge chest, then smashes the lid. Inside are dozens of tomes.

GB - Damnation! How are we to tell which is our book? What now Waverly, shall I join the fight? I got us in, how are we to get out?!

GB- What's this? Cooking for Drow? How to ward off Illithids? Volo's Tavern Companion of the Sword Coast? My Mother was a Hellspawn? We'll never find it! What about the shelves? Waverly, can't you detect it?

<Poof!> A Cleric dispels one of Waverly's swords.

Waverly: "Take them all, let the guards come. I want them all here before I show my nature."

Waverly waits patiently, when one of the sword falls and he can see the paladin he decides it is time to act decisively.

To GB: "I hate paladins. When you can move again, we leave. Get those books!"

GB: "When I can move?..."

Waverly (to paladin): "Seems you expected simple theives, an error. Time to die for me humans"

That is the last thing the guards hear. Waverly causes time to cease. When GB can indeed move again, the room is filled with smoking corpses and charred bones. The work of three strategically placed fireballs. Only the paladin still stands, burned and afraid, the two remaining swords advance on him. Waverly grabs the last couple books and the pair begin to leave...

No wonder Ubik wants it Image

As they dash for the exit more gurds rush to meet them.

GB- too many even for you mage, here - take this.

Downing the invisibility potion allows Waverly to slip out undetected. Gruntboy cleaves a guard down the middle before dropping a flask of burning oil and uncoiling his magic rope (heh) it shoots to the ceiling and he dissapears in the smoke. The art of the thief - no-one left alive knows who has stolen their book.

As he drops from the roof of the temple, guards mill around in confusion in the breaking dawn. Down in the sewers a pair of footmarks splash around in front of him.

GB - I just hope we grabbed the right book!
