Uncertaincy of world "status" will always cause uncertancy in world economics.
Therefore people/companies/nations would want to secure enought oil to cover demands for a periode of time, whereas international demand increases and causes prices to increase.

There were bombs. One supposedly on the plane and another planted in the building.
Also, the the airplane hit near the top of a giant "stick." If you hit a telephone pole hard near the top, it will effect the base.
I can only guess based on what I saw, but it appeared that there were about 20-30 stories above the impact point in Tower 2 and 10-20 stories above the impact point in Tower 1. The structural damage caused by the impacts, plus the damaged caused by fires was just too much for the buildings to handle...
I just heard a moment ago that a building next to where Tower 1 was is in danger of collapsing due to damage caused by the collapse of Tower 1.

I just want to take a moment to thank everyone on this board for their compassion and good thoughts. It is nice to know that regardless of where people are from, some things make us all the same.

Nobody knows.
People speculations goes to either a "infamous" terroris called Ossam Bin Laden or some other middel east, or far east terrorist group or even some nations.
Bin Laden and a couple of nations seems most likely to be able to pull this off.
It takes immense planning and much funding.

There will probably be several hours until any official information is released...It must have been a vast number of killed and injured in such a dense area...
Sadly I think it will be more like days, running into weeks before they can go on no longer...just the reckage of the two towers is immense

Like you and Xan I wish there was something I could do, but I can't even donate blood - to low body weight...
I used to give blood all the time but then got into the habit of passing out hours after. The act of giving blood did not bother me whatsoever, I just started fainting later...
I will try again - it has been a couple of years...
Give a pint and have a half of Guinness that should help a little (my midwife once told me Guinnes was good for blood loss

)
I am slight of build too - maybe that might have something to do with it...*shrug* I am heavier now - I think...

It really is amazing isn't it? For weeks we have complained about how quiet the board is then so many are dropping in to share condolences with their friends...it has really warmed my heart tonight
I am not saying it takes a tragedy to bring us together, what I am admiring is the amount of people that have come to share...to remember they have friends here...

BBC have a theory that the pilots were actually part of the whole deal. Could it be possible that they would train their whole lives to die? It's awful...absolutely awful. I cannot comprehend the chaos, damage and emotional scarring. I just read my last post and it was rather violent. I apologise for that. I however offer my condolences to all involved.
To any who have lost family, friends anybody who you even met once I sympathise with you. I hope that you can recover not physically but emotionally. May all those that have lost their lives Rest in Peace. May the people who have lost family or friends recover. I hope that people do not consider these words condescending or patronising. These words are truly meant and I do mean what I say. I hope that many of the injured can be saved.
DP I feel for your loss. I'm not a relegious person but my thoughts are with you. Thorin, I hope your dad will be Ok and that your friend can at least be comforted in his time of need.
I would like to say one last thing.
America has always been close to Britain, even after the war of independance we still fought side by side defeating an enemy of the world. The people that perpertrated these acts are in the same position. The entire world will come down on their head and they will suffer.
May all those that have lost their lives rest in peace.
