1. Baldur's Gate 2. I don't think their will ever be a CRPG to top this, at least not as long as Bioware and Obsidian work seperatly... This game got me into both my massive CRPG addiction and my unadulterated love of fantasy.

2. Final Fantasy IX. I always get odd stares for saying this is my favourite Final Fantasy game; past the 'cutesy' graphics held the most diverse, interesting world Square ever developed with actual characters, not just 'heroes with depth.' It's the only reason I'm risking buying XII.

3. Jade Empire. Another one I get flak for; "Wasn't KoTOR better?" Well; it was the better game, but it was just a really good game; it didn't impact me. Jade empire though, broke the good-evil, light-dark mold; it made you're choices have more depth, and so made me think about how I act as well.

Fallout series at first the game is intersting but after that I found that really can't give up playing. I have affinity for it. like adrug I don't think that I would like another game like fallout or the pen n paper DND (PnP DnD is consideres as a RPG right ?)

I've deleted two posts here that simply added to the last post within a space of two minutes. Please edit your post rather than posting multiple posts one right after the other.

1. Ultima IV: The Quest Of The Avatar was the game that got me hooked in PC Games. It introduced the first reputation system in an CRPG and had a goal that was something other than hunt someone down and kill him.

2. Ultima VII: The Black Gate is in my mind the number one CRPG ever released. I've played that game 5 times and each time I kept finding something I'd missed before. Bioware and Black Isle are two of the best CRPG developer's today but Origin Systems could top them.

Morrowind - after all linears that was real surprise. Played it with variety of characters and always found it fresh and surprising.

I have many RPGs that I've enjoyed, so I'll go in chronological order from really old school RPGs to current games along with the reason why I picked the game for my list:

Eternal Dagger - This is still my 'true love' since it introduced an epic quest with a band of characters you could create. Not many quests compared to later RPGs, but it refined tactical combat introduced from the previous Wizard's Crown game. It's also the first RPG I remember that introduced elemental damage and resistances and may have influenced the common RPG design.

Phantasie: Lots of silly pokes at Lord of the Rings with the creatures you encounter, and also LotR elements within the story(retrieving magical rings from throughout the world was one of the primary quests)

Worlds of Xeen - Best of the entire Might and Magic series with one of the best RPG endings of all time. It has the distinction of one of the most memorable foes in an RPG: the Megadragon.

Ultima 3: Exodus - I really liked the music and the exploration the game provided. Not as morally centered as the later Ultima games, but still a memorable experience.

Dungeon Master - THE game that had its interface copied by many other RPGs after it, but a classic of a dungeon crawling experience with a party that you chose to build as you saw fit.

Ultima 6: The False Prophet - I still remember making graphic maps of the dungeons to get thru this game, and the numerous encounters you had in the game were quite memorable.

Several years passed without memorable RPGs for me...

Might and Magic 8 - I know the reviews of the game were mostly pretty poor, but I enjoyed the game in spite of its flaws. I've played this one the most of the modern M&M games. I suspect my flaw of liking to play Minotaurs is part of the reason. It's also the M&M game that I made a minor contribution to(the Lord Brinne Tribute within the game).

Knights of the Old Republic - Although parts of the story are cliched, most of the characters that you run across were pretty interactive with the main character. A big plus to the game is a classic Star Wars story line that I would recommend others to experience.

You youngsters need to get put up on game. PLANESCAPE TORMENT uses every other RPG ever made as toilet paper.

Every one is entitled to an opinion....agree that Planescape is one of the top, along with the BG Series..
but being 52 years old, I myself have played the Kingdom Hearts series and enjoyed them...

I liked Kingdom Hearts even though I don't own a PS2. I wish I had one. As for Final Fantasy VII, I really enjoyed that game very much compared to the other RPGs I've played.

It may be a good game but it's not to everyone's taste. Some like it, some don't.

If first got into the Pen and Paper role playing games when I was a kid still living in South Africa. It was 1990 and the game was dungeons and dragons, and I really enjoyed it, but when I moved to England in 1993 I stopped playing, and spent more time getting drunk.

Anyways, I recently got the 3.5 version and am currently learning it with my girlfriend - beats any computer game.

My Online favourites.

1 - Final Fantasy VII
2 - Eye of the Beholder.
3 - Neverwinter Nights (played with my girlfriend via multiplayer)
4 - Elder Scrolls.
5 - Baldurs Gate.

Although not a RPG as such, my favourite MMO is WWIIOnline. I find online roleplaying games to be rather limited (played Everquest, city of heroes and D&D Online).

Only reason why I dont play as much pen and paper D&D is that I dont know anyone interested in playing.

There are two NWN games now. NWN2 follows the 3.5 rules you are looking at now.

And four Elder Scrolls games. Oblivion is pretty special (TES: IV)

And two Baldur's Gate games. A lot of folks still play BG2.

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 are easily my favourite games ever. I've played through them so many times.

If I have to pick one, I'd go for Planescape. You can't say you've experienced fantasy if you haven't played this.

Favorite RP of all time huh..... well tough choice.... IDK i know one of my favs is an all time classic still fun game fable cant wait for fable 2

Hard-core rpg players must love planescape: torment, 'cause I think the story and the dialogs are the most important part of a c-rpg and torment has it all.
And my personal favs are fallout, fallout2, planescape: torment.
