Hi there guys.
How was Oporto (other than the graffiti)?
check out LA some time....there are great graffitti on the wall, no not the gang tagging but great pieces of art.....there are some places that hire these people to paint there walls with there graffiti there are also places that allow you to buy part of the wall for you to graffiti all over......
Now that sounds like a great idea (except for the buying bits of wall bit}. I'd like to see some of that if you have pictures?
@ Greg. Hi. It was marvellous. Mainly distinguished by impressive engineering (water treatment plant and power stations were good: Bridges to die for); port (naturally) and grotesquely offensive churches which were none the less good of their kind (no disrespect intended but I had real trouble getting my head round a church of St Frances of Assissi smothered in baroque gilt - probably my failing but it made me laugh out loud) And really really nice people who have an embarrassingly difficult language but are amazingly patient with stupid but clearly harmless foreigners

I used to imagine that one of my kids would be one of those punk brats who did crap like that. And one day, for his/her birthday, I'd get their friends to decorate his/her room like that, all graffiti. And the idea felt original... until now. That's two "original" ideas I came up with which got shot down. How depressing.
btw, WB Fiona. Hope you had fun.

steep but it is a great place and I did have fun

Clearly harmless? You?
Oh well - I'm away for four days on D of E again - going to Glen Tanar near Ballater - should be a *hoot*.

@ Slade. Self portrait has an honourable tradition amongst artists - it takes a certain kind of self confidence (is that the right word?) but, hey.....
@ Greg. Yes, harmless. What did you think?
When you going to to the D of E thing?

Thursday until Sunday. Then back to school for 2 weeks. After that I'm going down to Edingburgh for a week to do a placement in a hospital, then D of E (again for 4 days on the west coast this time). We come back in time for the last day of term!
What kind of placement?
On a ward. Pretty much essential if you want to do medicine. It's not a case of straight A's now... I've already had a surgical placement and this is medical. Plus I'm going to a GP's for a day. Mum knows the Senior Social worker with the NHS up here, who tried to get me a psych one, but I can't do it... I pretty much know the criteria though, its all just for talking about at interview.

For some reason British people call Porto Oporto. I don't know why, but I gather everybody else calls it Porto. I suspect it is because there is an article and Brits don't get that. Or it could be just because we are arrogant and call everywhere whatever we fancy. Anyhow it is in the north of Portugal and I was on holiday there for a whole week and it was amazing
@ Greg. It has to be more than just for talking about. It has to help confirm or undermine you decision, presumably?

I suppose I'd better go now.
I'm still on study leave though, so I'll probably be on tomorrow.
Bye

Isn't there a football team called Porto? I just seem to remember that...
Maybe that explains it, because I'd heard of Porto but not Oporto before.
See you later Greg.
