What is your level of protection? Because I know I was able to get on at least three networks that were open around my appartment (and I live in a residential area so certainly no public wireless connections as you might find in restaurants or aeroports...). Maybe you should look into this with your provider.
Um....should I worry about this? What harm does it do if someone gets a free ride?

Someone can leech your bandwidth, for a start.

What does that mean?

If they're leeching off your bandwidth at the same time you're doing something online, you'll notice a marked decrease in internet speed.
Um....should I worry about this? What harm does it do if someone gets a free ride?
Well to be sure, go to network connections, click on your wireless connection, and then in the sidebarmenu click on show available networks. If the one you're currently using is marked as secure (little padlock) you shouldn't have any problem since one needs a key to get on it.

No it is not secure. It says it isn't. But if the only problem is reduced speed I will worry about it when it becomes a problem. Thanks, both, though
Hmm. I don't know in how far it can be a security risk, but if I were you I'd try to check with the provider.

The provider means the people who sold me the box thing? Or the people who made it, I should rather say?

Probably the people who sold you it, in this case...
I got it from "Comet" What question should I ask them?
Whether you can secure your wireless connection so people need a key (ie a string of characters that you need to put in when you first make your connection, a bit like the window's product key) to use it.
I'm not a specialist either, but it just feels safer to get it secured IMO.
