No that's official canon. I think the reason that they did it so that you had a choice in KOTORII was because there was so little interaction between the two stories. For male -> female you change bastila for carth, for light -> dark you say that instead of leaving after saving the republic he left after resuming title of sith lord.

If a kotor III was truly a real continuation of the kotor I storyline (with revan) I think it'd be foolish to have two vastly different starting point (based on who is and isn't alive and would make much more sense to go with the official "here's what happened according to Lucas" and let you choose light/dark and male/female in the new game from that starting point.

As far as being able to play revan again I think that also would be dumb. How would they weave into the story that you magically forgot all your force powers...*again*? and if they started you off at the equivalent of level 20 then the end of the game you'd have every force power available and have like 50 intel and wisdom. I think starting fresh with a new character, somehow linked to revan and/or the exile is the way to go

Why have them be connected at all?
That is just asking for problems, how many others could there be that are A: young enough, B: have not been hunted down and killed by the sith, C: slater-ed by the the cullings of Revan, Malik, The Exile, and the other Jedi, or D: where not killed in the war, who are E: force sensitive, who have F: gone though the Jedi training, and finally G: could find a teacher both willing and powerful enough to teach them to a sufficient level of power.
Shouldn't just knowing a detailed history of them be enough? like how about the Ebon Hawks records of there travels? And of course T3-M4? Or something like that?

@Panda: Thanks for chewing me out, and proving my point, and I bet you "Just Don't Care"

Not sure what you mean by this? Do you mean this is how you start as Revan?

exactly. like Canderous so conveniently said in K1, "Malak himself could drop out of the sky and I wouldn't bat an eyelash"

No I meant that Your character in K3 has this, Like your character in K3 finds the wreckage of the Ebon Hawk and some how, definitely some how, the ships logs are now not only unlocked, but also are undamaged from the crash landing, T3-M4 on the other hand, is well..... not doing so grate, but once you repair him or something, he is then on your team and as he gets to know you better he tells you a more fleshed out story of Revan and The Exile.

@Everyone: Sorry I was kinda curt earlier, I apologies.

as long as T3 comes back again, i don't care if he's not doing well. droids are fixable. i never used T3 unless i had to, but "he" is still awesome :D
