(crying)
I will be the next and absolutely not the last to admit that I am pissed off for several reasons.
First of all, I will take a rpg over an mmo anyday. second, we gave these peolpe-what was it?-4 YEARS-and this was the best they could come up with? They take their time and now at this point do not even have solid details for the game? 300 YEARS AFTER KOTOR? I am saddened as deep as is possible. How are we to finish the story? with game attachments that will be thrown together in a day? I am afraid that even the idea of a kotor 3 in the game producers minds will be gone within a year and than it will be over. The game that thousands have looked forward to for so long will be gone.
I dont care if this new mmo is the greatest game ever. I will have to be toughly convinced to buy it. Now the question is do we go with the slim chance that kotor 3 is in the producers' minds? Or go on in sadness with our lives?

I wouldn't hold my breath for a KotOR 3. If you watch the interview about the online game they have at gamespot, the creators expressly state that they decided to go online with this game instead of doing a single player rpg. They also state that this is in essence KotOR 3, 4, 5 and so on. This is the direction they chose to go instead of a single player rpg, and those are their words, not mine. They didn't want to confine the next KotOR to a single player experience when the series lends itself so well to the online community, again their words.
Watching the video, I've pretty much closed the door in my own mind for a single player game. The developers do promise a commitment to storytelling and bringing classic rpg storyline and so on to the multiplayer scene, but while I'd like to believe in what Bioware is saying I just don't know if they can seriously pull off everything they are trying to do with this game. They claim to have more content that ALL the previous Bioware games combined in that respect, which I don't see ho they could possibly tie it all together. I'd be a little more inclined to believe if EA didn't have their name in the mix, but that company is pretty bad for making promises they never keep about their games.
If they actually do deliver what they are promising right now I'd definately be interested in checking it out. It actually sounds like they are trying to go in a different direction from any similar game out now and not fall into the hack n slash kind of thing. I'm just not sure if they aren't biting off more than they can chew, esp with EA in the mix.
It is also early in development, so they said they won't commit to a timeline for release. If Dragon Age is any indicator, that could mean the game is years down the road.

Hmm. I wonder what the react is more generally outside of this forum? I would love to see the chaps at LA/Bioware rubbing their hands with glee at their amazing announcement, only to be met with a distinct "meh" from most quarters.
The sad thing for me that MMO seems to increasingly be the future of gaming. Sad, because it makes me sound like such an old git going on about how great games used to be when levels were long, cutscenes were sparse and games weren't shortened to make space for on-line play.

well I see that there are four options alright?
1. The Old Republic booms and the producers say that they made enough money and move on
2. The Old Republic booms and they think they could make more money with a kotor 3
3. The Old Republic sucks and the producers say that they cant risk another waste
4. The Old Republic sucks and they decide to put all they have left in kotor 3

I have not had chance to read the other replies but I am very dissapointed that the next KOTOR will be a MMORPG.BuckGB wrote:Based on popular demand, I thought I'd open up a new rumor thread and kick it off with today's rumor that the next KotOR will be an MMORPG. Anybody as disappointed as I am?
The reason why I love KOTOR I and II so much is because it is not an online game. I loved going around with a party of NPC's. I preferred that I had to think about quests (in every online game that I have played the quests have easy to follow instructions on what to do)
I do not like playing MMORPP's at the moment. I do not like the monthly fee and with three children under five I do not have much time to play on them.
I find that I cannot go onto a MMORPG game for a a quick half an hour gameplay as you cannot get much done at all (well that was what I found for me, maybe it was how I played the game, but it took me an age to get from place to place) However I can do this with the off line games.
And lastly you do not run into annoying players in off line games (Like the one time in LOTOR when a Dwarf was pestering my elf character to marry him. I was not impressed as I was supposed to be in a role playing server)
I really, really hope that not only do they make an offline KOTOR III but that it is also available on PC (I do not really like playing games on consoles)
Edited to add another point: I also love the fact that I can pause KOTOR I and II (There are times when you have to leave the computer for a variety of reasons)

I agree that its pretty slim that Kotor will be revived even though it was so boss. Can you imagine if they would have used the same programing as Mass Effect? I think our only hope is that it gets really bad reviews and is a complete disaster. W all have to come together and hate this game and swear not to buy it! Even if we are rich and curious! haha. It just sucks when i think about how bomb it could have been and the poop they are going to throw together for this game. I know its early, but the screen shots look like a total joke. The people look worse then they did 4 years ago! haha

If what Bioware is saying and showing holds true, then I'll prefer this MMO over the KOTOR's massively. While KOTOR1 and 2 were good, they were still pretty standard games with some okayish writing, a sub-standard plot (KOTOR1 especially) and some fun RPG elements.Loki[D.d.G] wrote:Really sad... a K3 rpg could have gone places. Would have preferred it to a MMO.
TOR seems to bring story and RPG into the MMO genre, and if they dare to keep it, bring consequence to choices, where you can't just "reload" afterwards. It'll be interesting to see if they dare to stick to the plans.
Furthermore, if they then keep developing on it, it's an ongoing game
But of course, if you aren't a MMO player, I can understand the disappointment. I just don't share it

I can see where you are coming from my friend. But sadly we seem to have differing tastes in our games. Im more of the single player RPG type, not a huge fan of MMOs and you have gathered. Which is why i liked K1 a lot, seeing as it was better written than K2, IMHO. Still, i suppose that TOR has managed to pique my interest. Enough for me to consider giving it a go when it is released.Xandax wrote:If what Bioware is saying and showing holds true, then I'll prefer this MMO over the KOTOR's massively. I have faith in Bioware, but not EA. EA runs primarily as a business with little care for the quality of their products and more emphasis on profits. So, it will definitely be worth watching how far TOR can go before one or the other decides to scrap it. Lol.

Neither should you, if that's what you like then enjoy. Undfortunately all my experience with MMOs are bad.Xandax wrote:But of course, if you aren't a MMO player, I can understand the disappointment. I just don't share it
I've no problem with them bringing out an MMO, I just don't understand why they abandoned what I'd thought was a successful series. I'm not sure it's a sound move by \bioware, getting away from you core base is often fatal, the chances of EA scrapping Bioware if this MMO goes south must be pretty high.

Somehow i doubt that. Not with DA:O, ME 2 and who knows what else on the horizon. Though i agree with ur previous statement. Maybe they thought by making it a MMO, they could generate more revenue for less work? *shrugs* Better stop typing before i start rambling in a diff direction completely.galraen wrote:I'm not sure it's a sound move by \bioware, getting away from you core base is often fatal, the chances of EA scrapping Bioware if this MMO goes south must be pretty high.
