I just watched Matrian Successor Nadesico, has anyone else seen this? Personally, I think it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

The .Hack series are odd (I personally didn't like anything about them, save the soundtrack). In order to truly understand whats happening, you have to watch Sign, then play the PS2 game, then watch Dusk. If you ask me, it's all a big marketing ploy, and a shoddy one at that.Originally posted by Zelgadis

I rather liked the series, until about the last five minutes. Can you tell me or do you know anywhere I can read about the part the PS2 game provides to the story, so I can find Dusk and watch that, and try to sort things out that way?
Oh yeah, and the soundtrack was pretty nice![Smile :)](./images/smilies/)

.hack//SIGN (TV Series) vs. .hack//LIMINALITY (OVA) vs. .hack//INFECTION (PS2)
The story of .hack//SIGN, the 26 episode TV series, takes place before .hack//INFECTION (PS2) and the .hack//LIMINALITY series. They introduce "The World" and the events leading up to the game's beginning. .hack//SIGN takes place almost entirely online and follows the adventures of Mimiru, Bear, and the other player characters as they try to unravel the mystery of Tsukasa. The .hack//LIMINALITY series and .hack//INFECTION begin at roughly the same time after .hack//SIGN, paralleling each other in separate worlds. The .hack//LIMINALITY series takes place offline, telling Mai Minase's story after she becomes involved through her friend Tomonari Kasumi, who falls into a coma after playing the game. .hack//INFECTION, the PS2 game, returns to the online world through Kite, a young player and friend of Orca of the Azure Sea, a character mentioned in .hack//SIGN.

I have recently been watching an anime called Juuni Kokki (also called The Twelve Kingdoms, Juuni Kokuki), which I have found to be an amazing series. I am surprised to discover that more attention has not been paid to it. The animation is top-notch, the plot is complex yet intriguing, and the characters are skillfully rendered with subtle humor and attention to their realistic evolution.
In one sense, there are echoes of “The Ugly Duckling,” my favorite fairy tale, in this story. An young, fearful school girl who has always tried to please everyone is swept off to another world, where she eventually has to confront her fears, her naïveté, and her despair in order to accept her astonishing destiny. When I was younger, I loved the way the ugly duckling, who was so despised, in the end became a swan… and lived happily ever after. I wanted that so much for myself. And, in fact, I was allowed to live out this story in my own life. The love of my life and I were reunited after six years, fell in love, and were married. But… we did not live happily ever after…
One truly satisfying aspect of this anime series is that is does not end with the ugly duckling swimming off into the sunset with the other swans. We get to see what happens after the main character, Youko, embraces her destiny and discovers the harsh reality that must be mastered in order to discover what is true and valuable. For me, Juuni Kokki has not only been wonderfully entertaining, but it has allowed me to annotate a once beloved mythology so that it once again can meaningfully inform my life.

I've actually watched up to episode 20 of Junni Kokki. It is a good anime, I think, but I also feel it moves along too slowly ( though, thankfully, not as slowly as the horrid Dragon Ball Z). Part of this is because it is a multi season series, already into season 4 (40+ eps already, with the last season still not available in North America)
While I'm posting. Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien. I've been following this anime since it's first episode, and must say I'm loving it. It's based off a H-game (hentai game
), but thankfully takes few of those elements into the actual show. The animation is top notch, as is the music and voice acting.
It is a bit of a soap opera, though, but the story is compelling enough for me to look past that, because I enjoy the characters and their development too much. I definatly recommend this anime for people, once they get a chance to watch it.

GitS: SAC: 2nd Gig is an awesome series so far. The animation is superb, as is the voice acting and the story. The great part about it being a second season, is that it established itself amazingly well in the first season, so this second season is all story, which is awesome. As for the second of GitS movies, that's news to me, and I'll definatly have to take a look into that when head up to Anime North this month.
In other news, I finished Juuni Kokki after some time. Great series, a bit awkward with one of the story arcs, but definatly worth checking into.
Some other fun ones are Hellsing (a 13 episode series based on the Hellsing Organization. They're dedicated to fighting the occult). Also, Wolf's Rain is a great piece as well.

Just out of curiosity, KidDo, do you have any info on Wolf's Rain for me? I've heard it's up there with some of the good drama genre, but I'm wondering if it's worth the tweny-five dollars it takes to pre-order it. ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/)
"There are worse things in the world than serving the whims of a deadly sex goddess." - Zevran
Ah, Wolf's Rain. I'm currently at episode 16 of it, and am enjoying it quite a bit.
The basic premise of the story is this: The world is supposedly extinct of wolves, with civilization pretty much banding together into dense, or almost abandoned locations. On top of that, there are several noble houses around.
Anyway, in one particular city, a group of scientists are studying this being called the Flower Maiden, trying to discover the secret to Paradise. In the same city, there are a group of wolves, disguising themselves as human. They are all there because of the Flower Maiden's scent.
The first couple of episodes make a good build up to the main story, in bringing the main cast together, as well as establishing the secondary cast. The animation is well drawn, fluid and seemless. The sound track is actually one of my favorite aspects of this anime, very well done.
I'd recommend this anime, especially to you, AC![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/)

OK, then Wolf's Rain. Aegis already covers most of the story line. For me the opening theme song is awesome - it's "Stray" by Steve Conte.
On the story side - for me a bit tame, prolly because I've watch whole series including the ending. Expect some repetititons of story in the middle of series. As for the finale - some spoiler : the finale is not in the series. You must watch Wolf's Rain OVA to see the ending of the whole series.
In the OVA some mysteries that not solved in the series will be unfold and it's the true ending of whole series not another side story.
<EDIT> If you ask me is it worth to buy, i'd say NO. Rent is one solution or borrow from someone who has it. The anime it's not worth all the penny
Others new genre to be avoided also :
Geneshaft - too fast paced, char development seems murky
Texnolyze - jumpy story line that can only make sense in the middle of series, bnut the soudntrack is very awesome "Guardian Angel (Xavier Edit ver)" by Juno Reactor

(Great Teacher Onizuka)

![Image](http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000060MWH.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg)
What is kind of teacher you say is the best teacher ? Most teachers are strict, hardly jokes around with their students and sometimes "killer type".
Welcome to the world of Eikichi Onizuka ! He is 22 years old, still a virgin (yes he has not even got a girl friend so far !), a third grade university graduate (to make it worst he take seven years to graduate - by copying test from his classmates too !) and ex biker gang ! (others biker gang have high respect on him - rumor sez he can ride a bike at 700 mph) Being out of luck and need to find income, Onizuka enroll as a teacher - with ulterior motive like having a girlfriend who is 16 yrs old
Despite his attitude (put it this way he is very carefree and I repeat : an ex biker gang
) and background he manage to get a job in Seirin Highschool - with some huge luck I may say. You gotta see the anime for yourself
More surprise to come when he was assigned by vice headmaster, who's not very fond of him to become homeroom teacher of the notorious class (Class 3-4) - which was in junior high - not high school ! So much for his dream having a 16 yrs old GF eh ?
Class 3-4 was known as teacher killer - even Onizuka got fooled during his first days. How is he gonna straghten this class of bullies ? Onizuka is Onizuka, as he says often in the anime "I shall straighten them as the greatest teacher I am !" His way sometimes un conventional and often got him nearly fired (example : he stripped the girls who bully a boy and take pictures of them as the girls did to the boy
) - in addition vice headmaster is his opposition in most matter.
This anime was a huge hit manga and even have J-drama version due its popularity (Jdrama is Japanese live drama movie series) Overall GTO is a great anime - slight warning : I recommend this anime as PG13, no kiddies allowed to see this anime !
Side note : The manga version is slightly different with anime but overall it's worth to watch

First off, back in business for all those anime fans!
Anyway,
Samurai Deeper Kyo
This is an anime I've looked at checking out many times, but there have always been constraints on the availability of the serious. I recently came into some good luck, and was able to pick the series up. Currently, I've watched 18 episodes of it, and am quite impressed.
The series was made in 2002, meaning that the animators have been able to make use of plenty of wonderful techniques. It does a splendid job at mixing the CG animation along with the regular. The animation itself is quite fluid, and doesn't (like many samurai animes) rely heavily on the static shot pan, meaning combat is a beautiful thing in this series. The colours are vibrant, and the scenery is great. All in all, the animation of this particular series is top notch, with not much to complain about, unless it doesn't suit your particular style.
For the story itself, it's based in Feudal Japan, just after the seizing of power by the Tokugawa clan, meaning it incorporates historical figures into the series as well (Ieyasu Tokugawa, for instance). The main characters are Mibu Kyoshiro (a travelling drugist), Yuya (a female bounty hunter), Kyo (The man who killed 1000 men) and Sanada Yukimuro. All of them are fleshed out nicely, and character development is one of the most thought out ones I've seen since Cowboy Bebop. The dialogue goes nicely with each character construct, but not to the point of being predictable.
While the story itself does maintain some cliches and predictable aspects, it balances those out by throwing in a fair mix of twists into the plot, and it doesn't wait until the last bit of story arc to do so either.
The sound track isn't as impressive as some other titles, but it suits the series well. Not much to complain about it, but it lacks in comparison to the Gregorian chant in Escaflowne, or the jazzy soundtrack to Bebop.
That's all for now. I'll probably get back with some more soon. Maybe KiDd0 will even make an appearance.

Speaking of older anime, I just finishing watching ALL of Rurouni Kenshin. That's 95 episodes from the TV series, plus the six OVA, and the movie. Whew! It took all summer and part of fall to get through it, but I would highly recommend the series. The beginning is a bit slow and rather silly, but after the first 30 episodes the story really comes into its own. Against a rich historical backdrop, the characters are not only developed but truly pushed to the limits of their beliefs, values, and feelings. The first OVA, Tsuiokuhen, is particularly moving in this regard, though I recommend watching it after the end of the second story arc (episode 61) rather than seeing before starting the series itself.
I will say that I did not care for the sequel OVA, Meiji Kenkaku Romantan Seisouhen. Not only was it a mismash of previous episodes, and one very confused and compacted story arc from the manga, but I utterly rejected the conclusion and implications of this two part story. I firmly believe that the conclusion of the manga, with its insights into atonement, was the correct conclusion for the characters in this story. Fortunately, I left the movie for the end, so my last memories of Rurouni Kenshin were pleasant ones.
I just started watching Crest of the Stars, which I am enjoying very much.
