Well, I've played a Neverwinter Nights module that had some aspects of these types of card games, but never the real things...so I wouldn't have a clue where to start with playing Magic anyway.
The module:

Quite difficult to get a feel of it, just through a screenshot and description unfortunately, but basically you have a pack of cards, many of them are magic generators. Using magic generators allows you to use other cards. The more magic generators you have the more powerful the cards you can put into play.
E.g. 1 magic generator summons a Goblin with a crossbow and 5 summons a Dragon.
There are also cards that turn your enemy's creature in play against him, protection effects etc.
The aim is to kill your opponent's avatar using your cards before he kills your avatar.
Heh, that Tranquility cards sounds good.
There is a card in the module that destroys all your magic generators but turns every enemy into an ally...think how annoying that could be? :devil:
