Actually that does sound kind of cool, is it fairly well-known or just something your friend made up in his basement? :D
Ow, I'm old, old...
It's a setting created by TSR and it is still part of the AD&D 2nd edition campaigns. It dates from the first half of the 1990's, when I was a frantic collector of RPG source books (I also have a fair bit of Ravenloft, Planescape & Birthright source books - other campaigns of AD&D 2nd edition)
But I googled it for you and I found this:

Al-Qadim.com

And what do you say now? Thank you for the present uncle Lestat. :D

Yeah, if we were under the impression you weren't old before...now we aren't. ;)
Sandstorm must be the newer version of Al-Qadim then (or so it would appear).

You have Planescape stuff, eh?
They should make more games on that, who knows, I might look into the newer equivalent of that.

Thank you, Unky Les! :D ;)

Well since you nicely said thank you:

And as a bonus the site of the artist who did most of the artwork for the setting and did a lot to create the specific Planescape atmosphere.

I can't tell you anything about his sit though, since I lack a broadband connection...

I used to have a lot of 2nd edition books. Basically every one that didn't go into the various settings mentioned above. Eh...lots of money went into that, and I did it all for research and not playing. :o

I had a few books of other settings and the D&D gazetteers (from the old D&D world which continued to exist in parallel with the AD&D 2nd edition). But of course also the source books of the game we were actually playing (though at a certain moment there was a gap in publishing and I made up a lot).

Yeah, looks interesting. Thanks. :)
I signed the petition too.

I looked at some stuff for this kind of thing before. There is something called the City of Doors Initiative, they have created some impressive pieces, mainly to be used in the Neverwinter Nights engine.
This is some of their work:

And my resolution is lower than 1024... :p
Seems quite good anyway.

Merry Christmas!

I have had two great gifts from the last two days. It's why I get out of bed at eleven.
Buy a GameBanshee T-Shirt HERE! Sabre's site for Baldur's Gate series' patches and items. This has been a Drive-by Hilling.

Merry Christmas Rav and Hill! :D

How was everybody's day? Relaxing I hope? :)
"Be thankful you're healthy."
"Be bitter you're not going to stay that way."
"Be glad you're even alive."
"Be furious you're going to die."
"Things could be much worse."
"They could be one hell of a lot better."

Yeah, feels like any other day most of the time, but it's fine.

I have a bunch of new Stargate Atlantis episodes to watch through, so I'm happy enough. :p
Oh, a new FR book too.
I forgot to list a couple of other newish FR series I own yesterday.

How has your day been?

Nice. How are you finding the games?
I was thinking of getting Dragonshard some time.
Not X3 though, X2 was too complicated to concwentate on and I'll bet X3 isn't that much different on the interface. :o

Pretty damn good, very relaxing... Got some books and the XBox 360 I reserved a while back (my parents had bought it and everything for me, but I knew I was getting it cause I put the moneyy down) and so, naturally, that's what I'm doing. :D :D

Glad to hear our day's been good Rav, which book did you get?

Never heard of X3, what's that Hill?

Nice! :)

It's called Midnight's Mask I think. The last book in the Erevis Cale Trilogy. There's a githvyrik baddie in there (and entirely new type of creature though incredibly powerful) who has some slaadi henches. The githvyrik is trying to get power through something called the Weave Tap using the blood of celestials and demons.
The 'heroes' are two favoured of Mask and a halfling. The main character Cale has turned into a shade-like creature and they're all currently on the Plane of Shadow from what I remember.
So, the third book should be good. :D

X3 is a space simulator, there are battles, missions and trading in there if it's anything like X2 which I do own.

Fable made a thread on it in Non-RPG Discussion, so you might want to check it out.

@ Ravager: I said we got up late today, as we got out of bed at eleven, and still spent several hours slowly opening presents. I am about to download Dragonshard. ;)

I'm reading through the Dragonlance series now. We really need a forum for books. :p

Ahh, no actual physical copy then. :p

I guess we're stuck to the forums for different settings until we get a book forum. :o

Well, if you want one, ask for one in GameBanshee Discussion, Ravvy. ;) :D

Erm... given the amount of threads on books, I think it would be safe to say that many would be interested in one. :)

*shrugs* I don't really mind. I stick to FR books a lot, if I read more from the other settings and had to go between different threads to discuss them, then that would be more of a pain.
You could always raise the point. :p
