Ah, that mixing of social housing and more commercial housing is something they try to do here too. Doesn't work always but it's better than clustering a bunch of high rise buildings together for social housing and nothing else (as with the HLMs of the banlieues of Paris).

Ach the high rise thing was the last effort in the gorbals and it was, as usual, a disaster. But I have a different attitude to social housing than the current outlook. Our history is different and in Scotland the idea of buying a house is fairly new. It was imposed by central government, in line with what I take to be English experience and values, and it has not been good for this city. But there is no chance of reversing those rules at present and so this effort is exemplary in what can be done within the constraints in place.
I do not think it will ever be repeated, however, because this was a seriously expensive project. That money was forthcoming because of the history of the area; the damage it did to Glasgow's reputation; and a certain amount of guilt. We will not see that combination again, I think

New England Clam Chowder rocks. I'm sorry, but I was at Legal Seafood a lil while ago, and wow it was good. I also had a couple Long Island Iced Teas. Yum.
