Going to be a lot of anger against people of middle eastern origin if it turns out to be them. Lets try to remember that being Irish doesn't make me drink so don't stereotype people, I know many don't on this forum but I jsut thought it needed to be said.
Well said!

It was a day that will live in infamy. Just as Dec. 7, 1941 was the day upon which all Americans realized that they are not free from foreign attack, Sept. 11, 2001 will live on in the collective consciousness of the American people as they day they learned they were not safe from terrorism. Not just any kind of terrorism—but efficient, cold-blooded slaughter on a mass scale.

Hi i decided to come back to discuss this further.
There was no bomb. The fuel in the planes exploded.
Although it also very upsetting to hear about a hijacked plane crash in Pennsylvania, i thank the person for crashing the plane and killing only about 100 people. If not, thee plane would have crashed in Camp David, killing the passengeres, along with the vice- president, the white house staff, high ranking officers from the pentagon and tons of other government officials.
Then the country would have been in ruins.
As for my friend, well we aren't certain about his father, but nobdy can tell although the odds are against us.
TWC. That made up New York. Now its gone. When one thinks of NYC they think ff teh statue of liberty, empire state, and TWC.
Now its gone. Bilions of dollars.
In my rather short life, i have really never had a close loved die, thank god. Some of my older relatives died, but most did before i was born or i never really knew them.
But now my friend's dad is dead. Me and m whle family knew them pretty well.
Its so sad.
When i think about it, it is just a dream and I try to wake up from it, but it won't happen.
I just can't belive it. Such a big part of my life. I've been to NYC hundreds of times, just last week infact.
I just can't believe this is happening.

As a muslim and Pakistan i am horrified at this thing.
My cousins works at building 7 of the WTC.
Heck i met him only 2 weeks ago when i was on vacation.
My other cousin lives 10 blocks from the WTC.
Look, there are some with in our religion who believe this is right.
And believe that this waht is right.
I KNOW that many believe it is wrong, my college was silenced when we got the news.
Innocents should not be targetted under any circumsatnces.
To those who have lost family, my condolences.

I don't know whats worse.
That thousands died or that people in some countries have been so messed up by media and everything else that they were happy because thousands died.

BTW - general question - aren't c0ckpits locked these days (since Lockerby)?
They are locked but the doors aren't very thick. Consider the fact that you would guess six armed highjackers per plane and the doors are relatively insignificant.
How could this happen?
How could so many jets be hijacked at any one time? How could they fly through what should be such a secure air space? How?
Ever consider people on the inside (airport employees) involved in the attack.
The fact that so many aircraft could be flying through secure airspace is disturbing.
Why aim for the biggest casualties?
Because that is the essence of terrorism. This act is going to forever change the state of affairs on the planet. I wouldn't expect the group/nation responsible for this affair to take credit anytime soon. There are few acts as heinous as this throughout history and those responsible have instilled the gravest fear into almost everyone on the planet. This insane event is going to do more than test the resolve of the USA, it is going to test the resolve of the human race. The repercussions of this tragedy could be scary. With any hope and luck, the leaders of our nation will possess the composure necessary to get through this attack. We cannot lash out at the first name that sounds good.

Yes they are locked, but a ruthless terrorist could force the staff to open the door by threat, or just simply kill off the staff and break the lock.

We will have to wait for the answers...But all flights were domestic - the security controls at domestic flies are virtually zero, also in the US.
And what organisations have the resources to actually carry out something as large scale as this?

Hate and revenge, I suppose. Hate is a poison to the human mind, that kills off other human feelings
Just heard another building on Manhattan has collapsed, the 40 storey "Solomon brothers building" (sp?). I hope it was totally evacuated - it should be.

The whole area has already been evacuated.
The problem is what this will do to these smaller companies and so many workers.

This is one of those days where you'll remember where you were when it happened. When I first heard the news I was shocked and mainly sad for those who had died. Nothing will bring them back and no apology can be made for what has been done to the U.S. today. Many innocent people were killed. There lives cut short and their dreams ended. For those we knew, they live on in our hearts.
We extend our hearts, prayers and deepest sympathy out to anyone who lost family members, friends or someone close to them. Just remember: GB is here for you

My heart really goes out at the moment to any US resident that has eastern links. Unfortunately this is where the finger seems to be pointing at the moment...
I really hope they identify the party involved before we have a full scale war on 'could bes'...

So sad but true. I hope there might be some sense in reconciling this tragedy, rather than just emotion. This is a real tragedy...

Even though I'm late getting into the oncversation, I heard of what happend at school today. All I can say is that I'm sorry for all those people who have lost someone in this act of Terrorism, and that I will do what ever I, and my community, can do in this crisis.
Also, what do you suppose this will do to American Economy? This could potentially ruin it as is, sending the States in an Economic Depression. I (As a Canadian, and forced to rely on the American dollar) would not like to see this happen, as all of North America, and the World will be effected by it.
I have edited this after some thought, and by the requests of fellow members. I apologize for those who I absent mindly offended by saying what I did.

The third building to collapse in Manhattan was the Seven World Trade building. It was severely damaged when Tower 1 fell. It was leaning to the south and on fire. They didn't let firefighters go near for fear that it would collapse at any moment. Now it has.

Just found this when I was browsing the net....seems some people think that worse times are coming....let's all hope that it isn't so....
"The third big war will begin when the big city is burning"
"In the City of God there will be a great thunder, Two brothers torn
apart by Chaos, while the fortress endures, the great leader will succumb"
//Nostradamus 1654
