@Gwally: I assume you are still on a diet, so I won't tell you what I had ;) I eat a lot of Italian food, also a lot of Thai/Malaysian and Indian. I once tried to explain the hopeless traditional Swedish food to Brink (who lives in IMO the best food culture in the world), and he thought I was joking :( :D

CE both plays in the lab and spam away here :D I'm writing an article as usual - I have several studies I must publish, so just like the past 6 months, I'll be spending a long time writing on various manuscripts - and I'm planning a couple of new projects. I'm also trying to act a supervisor for a new PhD student who started a few weeks ago, very smart and handsome guy :D

What are you doing these days?

@Sleep: I think all those "monodiets" will make people allergic towards that food type later, and I don't think it's very healthy either.

Heh, it's good you take care of me :D I'll promise to drink the Evian too, and perhaps a cranberry juice too, my favorite drink beside sweet lassi.

Neither do i, i presume they are all rubbish, it just occured to me though :) My boss did a 28 day De-Tox diet and he lost over 2 stone in just over 2 weeks... he was rather large though ;) He is apparently giving up alcohol and meat...i'll believe it when i see it! :D

Wouldn't want you going into a DF party unsupervised, someone has to do this dirty work ;) Cranberry Juice? Don't you find it always taints whatever one drinks/eats afterwards? :)

I am glad no one is saying sweet Lassie otherwise i would be on the phone to the RSPCA in an instant :D

@CE: Actually, pasta is okay on the diet, just not second helpings, and I would have to lay off the alfredo sauce and sausage! Its okay, I love the tomato sauce!

Speaking of papers, I just had a chapter I had contributed to published!

(why do I suddenly wish I were a cute PhD student?) :D

@BS: ROFL! :D

@Lassie: What's that, Girl? Sleepy's fallen down the well again? :D

Hi BS, how are you doing?

@Sleep: 2 stone is 2 weeks  He must have been very big indeed. There is really no reason to give up meat if you wish to loose weigh, on the contrary, meat is very good food providing it is not cooked in a lot of fat. Alcohol on the other hand has a lot of calories that may be viewed as unnecessary for a person who is dieting.

Cranberry juice has a tendency to taint mild tastes since it's rather distinct, but I often drink it before eating spicy food or after dinner.

What is RSPCA? Anyway, they eat dogs in many parts of the world :D

Next to orange juice, cranberry is my favorite! But it doesn't work well with my diet... :(

I had chicken, mushrooms and vegetables to my pasta, it would probably have been OK for you to eat, minus my parmesan mountains perhaps since I suppose parmesan is fatty like all cheese.

Heh, you could of course start a second career in neuroscience :D

Congratulations to the publication :) Is it a chapter in a textbook? What is it about?
@Lassie: What's that, Girl? Sleepy's fallen down the well again? :D
Poor old Gwally, he's talking to my Oriental yoghurt drink ;)

You are both correct. Monodiets are unhealthy and predispose the body to a number of deficiencies over time. While they do not induce allergies in healthy people, they can exacerbate people with food intolerances, food sensitivities, irritable bowel disease, and other GI disorders. Dieting (as opposed to a weight management plan that includes lifestyle changes such as exercise) tends to be an exercise in futility, as was underscored by a recent survey done by Consumer Reports. Part of the reason for this could be due to a hormone made by stomach cells called ghrelin that is thought to encourage weight gain. A small study found that ghrelin levels were consistently about 50 percent higher after weight loss by dieting. For more information, you can go here. While drug companies are already looking to cash in on drugs that block ghrelin, having apparently learned nothing from the similar hoopla and debacle around the obestity-regulating protein leptin, my sense is that weight regulation is a complex dynamic that cannot be addressed by a "magic bullet".

Um.... am I going to be thrown out of this establishment now for not spamming? :)

Good evening Thantor, how nice to see you, how are you doing? :)

Thanks for the information, I often try to convince my dieting friends (I have 3-4 friends with overweight problems) that this eating ananas for 2 weeks is not solving their problematic eating behaviour. For people with severe obesity problems, I would actually recommend cogntive behaviour therapy-like treatment in combination with a food & exercise plan, since it's often necessary for this group to change both their eating behaviour patterns and their attitude towards food.

Btw, I of course didn't mean allergic literally. In Swedish, "allergic to something" is often used as slang for being extremely fed up with something, perhaps you can't use it this way in English?

Why not? I always thought fruit juices was nothing but healthy, I drink plenty of different types every day since I like it.

 You just have unexercised tastebuds :p Actually, IMO the fish on the West coast is not too bad, IMO, but horribly expensive.

So how are you doing, Dot?

I was thinking more along the lines of "traditional" swedish fish dishes, I think you know the particular one I have in mind.

Im alive, as expected. :)

I think you are giving those horrible answers just to provoke me :D

The "traditional" fish dishes I believe you are referring to, are so disgusting so I've actually choosen to forget about them :D I have a faint but scary memory of my grandmother's cooked cod  no wonder the Swedish work for cod (torsk) also means "looser" or a person who buy prostitutes.

If you could provide me with an easy to use template for answers more to your liking I could start using it instead, Untill then I guess you just have to endure. ;)

Yes, It seems you are thinking about the correct one. Whoever come up with the idea to put that into his mouth must have been really desperate for "food".

Hi CE! *hug* Nice to see you as well. :) I am doing well, thank you. My sister is visiting from Colorado, and I am enjoying her company very much.

Oh... I see. Sorry. I need to brush up on my European slang. :D

@Dot: Usually I get hungry when I talk about food, but not this time...

Ok, especially for you:

QUICK TUTORIAL TO ANSWERS IN CE:S LIKING

When I ask "How are you doing" or something with the same meaning, it implies:

1. I wish to know something about your current state
2. I wish to know something about the reasons for you current state

Paragraph one includes moods as well as physical health. Examples of preferable answers in the mood category would be:
"I'm fine", "I'm happy", I'm angry", "I'm bored to death", "I'm sad" etc
Examples of preferable answers in the physical health category would be: "I have an oedema in my left leg", "I have a cold", "I'm recovering from my psychotic episode" etc.
Note that the two categories can be combined with an advantageous effect: "I'm fine, I'm just recovering from my psychotic episode", or "I'm bored to death, I have an oedema".

This leads us to paragraph two, the reason for your current state. Whereas the statement "I'm happy, I'm just recovering from my psychotic episode" makes sense and might be true, one's current state of mind is not necessarily related to one's physical health. Very often our current state of mind is induced by events and activities. Examples of combinations of paragraph 1 and paragraph 2 answers would be "I'm fine, school is going very well", "I'm happy, I just bought a pet tarantella" or "I'm sad, my girlfriend just ditched me and ran away with my sister".

END OF LESSION ONE

Could you summarise that in one sentence, using words of one syllable only? :D  ;)

So, a reply more to your liking might have been "I'm alive, since my lungs still seem to be inhaling oxygen and exhaling carbon dioxide, and my heart is still pumping blood around my body"? :D
