Nope, absolutely no one else.

I love getting in to work early for a meeting only to find out it was cancelled but no one bothered to tell me.

I love when meetings get cancelled, its like a wonderful gift of free time!!

I don't mind the meeting being cancelled, it's that I wasn't told.

But oh well, not that big a deal. So what does Thursday have in store for everybody?

The not being told part is what makes it a gift!!

I am planning to go to the pool, once I finish my coffee--I'm hoping for a huge burst energy at any moment!

I am going to my bookclub tonight, and only have about 100 pages left to read before 7 pm!! So see, if that "meeting" gets cancelled, I can procrastinate reading the book for another week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :laugh:

Is it at least an interesting book? I never got into book clubs, usually filled with too many people that want to turn everything into symbolism.

Hmm, I have to admit that sometimes my favorite part of bookclub is the wine!!

The book we are reading is Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. It doesn't have any symbolism, as far as I can tell, but it does have a lot of foreshadowing that keeps me reading. I just started it yesterday, and am halfway through. That is my problem--just like in school, I didn't like being told what to read. So, although this is social, I still feel the need to rebel!!!

Well, books and pool tanning go well together, so you should have plenty of time to read your books.

Usually the books prescribed in school sylibi (Correct plural?) are pretty boring, the past 2 years in english we had to read novels written before 1920, they weren't great.

Usually the books prescribed in school sylibi (Correct plural?) are pretty boring, the past 2 years in english we had to read novels written before 1920, they weren't great.

Yeah, they can be rather boring, but they're supposed to appeal to a wide range of readers. Back in high school, we had this reading program going to encourage us to read, but they gave us a massive list of books. Based on a kind of point scale, you had to obtain a certain amount of points by reading a book and then taking a test on the content (to make sure you actually read it). Some of the books were good--I read To Kill a Mockingbird and Jurassic Park--and some were quite bad--I tried to read Heart of Darkness and a friend of mine tackled the Bible-thick War and Peace. As an English major in college, I'm now subjected to a wide range of books I'd just as soon never have known existed; I honestly cheered when I was a chapter away from finishing Their Eyes Were Watching God, and I had to read some James Joyce, which I couldn't stand (mainly because the story was thread of consciousness-based or whatever you call it, and that kind of writing style gives me migraines). But I also read some good things, like last semester (when I was punished with Joyce, I was likewise rewarded) in my 20th Century British Literature class, we read Doris Lessing's The Fifth Child, Jeanette Winterson's The Passion, and the "graphic novel" V for Vendetta.

Anyway, I don't particularly like being told what to read, although I do sometimes enjoy what I have to read, so book clubs and I would never get along (and I don't like wine, so that settles that for me, shana :laugh: ). A moment from the remake of Stepford Wives comes to mind, how JoAnna, Bobbie, and whatshisname go to the book club and JoAnna talks about the book she'd just read; all the women look at her like she's an alien, and Glenn Close pulls out that Christmas ornament book.

We had to read To kill a Mocking Bird, I really didn't enjoy it that much this year we read Our Town, it was our play for the year, it may not be a novel but still it wasn't all that interesting, and we had to read Of Mice and Men, all in all I found the books chosen to be very boring.
