In four years the Argentina coach(this is the right word?) never put Crespo and Batistuta to play together, saying that both players have same characteristics ; now what can be the last Argentina game, the imbecile is considering the possibility. Something he must consider long long ago(in the past).
The role media always say it(that Crespo and Batistuta should play both in the same team) for the entire World cup classification.

Its incredible. He could not be less coerent.

I hope for a Nigeria victory, what will be very dificult, since the Nigéria will play with the Second Players.

And, also hope for an Argentina victory.

Cerntanly it will be a very good game.

There was a constant anger between the players and some minor conflicts, most of the cards were fair but the others (strict) IMO were necessary in order for the ref to keep the control of the game. If the ref was less strict the players might have started throwing punches to each other. :)

It is lastimable that a great team like Argentina is out of the World Cup, especially by the fact that Sweden that don't show any real ofense power, and keep defending the full 90 minutes, is classificated.

Very Good performance for Aimar.

Sweden will face Senegal. Now without chances for draw.

1- 1 between SWE and ARG places SWE first in the group (not the worst one to win either)! :)

I got up 7.00am to watch the England match (well, thanks to our postman who tried to finish the deliverly before the kick off. ). After 20 minutes, "Why did I bother..." did come to my mind... I even changed channel and watched Bob the Builder. :o :D

The other match seemed to be more exciting. :D

Well I don't even know who to go for now, France the best team for the past three years are out. Senegal are storming into the second round. Italy's trio aren't the goal scoring team that I assumed them to be. At least Brazil are predictable to a degree. :D

1-1. It should really have been 2-0. It was a penalty...but it was saved and crespo shouldn't be allowed to be inside the area when ortega takes the penalty... I mean it was almost offside!!!
And then to have Larsson booked for diving when in fairness the argentinian player should have been sent off. Well never mind a great result and Sweden go through.
Swedish coaches must be great when it comes to coaching defending.
It is strange that Argentina could only score one goal on the play in the world cup. It is not like they didn't have any chances. France don't score at all...weird huh?
We'll se what happens next.

OMG! :D I have just picked my six year old up from school - what a sight! :D My husband normally does the morning school run as I am in work by 7:30...

Well this morning my boy's school invited interested pupils (ages 6-11) to come in early and watch the second half of the England game in the school hall. My son was keen, so keen in fact that it turns out he attended school today sporting a fantastic Beckham style gelled mohican!! :D

What is worse, it was school photo day today - this moment in his young life will obviously never be forgotten LMAO :D

So I've been losing a lot of sleep watching these matches.

So far we have:
June 15--Germany vs Paraguay (I think Germany will win)
Denmark vs. England (who knows??? I haven't had a chance to see England play, but I did see Denmark beat France. What do you all think?)

June 16--Spain vs Ireland (again--haven't seen Ireland play, but saw Spain. I'm predicting Spain will win)
Sweden vs. Senegal (looking forward to this one, ought to be an interesting game, haven't seen Senegal play, but heard they are a lot of fun to watch. Predictions?)

I'm rooting for Turkey to make a lot of goals against China tomorrow, since if Costa Rica loses to Brazil (which they probably will), then Turkey has a shot at being the second team, depending on the goals. I'm going to Turkey next week and will be there during the World Cup, so I'm betting on them.

That Mexico-Italy match will be fun to watch-- a real battle.

South Africa-Spain

What a game, well the first half anyways :D Spain deserved to win that game, but you just can't help but feel sorry for the South African players. I'm still surprised that they didn't sub out the goal keeper. He was not in the right state of mind, and has let in too many goals in this tournament. As for Spain, they have one of the best strike force in the WC, but have also conceeded goals in every match. They are going to have to fixx up their defense if they are going to go all the way

EDIT-

Well the Argentinians are rioting :(

After having missed all yesterdays games, I decided to stay at home and watch football today :D

I listened to the 1st half of Swe-Arg on the radio, since I was on a train. When I got off, it was half time, and when I was on my way in to the PhD dissertation I was to attend, I got an SMS from my husband saying "Goal!". Since I had heard on the radio that Argentina totally dominated the game, I couldn't believe Sweden had scored. I had agreed to meet a prominent professor i pharmacology for some discussions, and when we spotted each other in the hall, I went towards him, we shaked hands and the first thing he said was "Do you know Sweden leads 1-0" :D I felt a bit sorry for the guy who's dissertation it was, I don't think I was the only one who spent the first half hour of constantly checking SMS:s :D

Whereas I'm satisfied with Sweden and England qualifying, I also feel sad for the people of Argentina. Although don't like their football team, I know how important football is in Argentina, and now with the country's finacial crisis, the football team is one of the few things that can bring some happiness to people. :( I also feel sad for Batistuta, who has now ended his long and great international career. I really think he was one of the greatest players of his generation, and he would certainly have deserved to win a WC title. Contrary to Maradona, Batistuta seemed to be a fair players, not at all as great a movie star as several other players in the team. Tributes to Batistuta! :)

Brazil - Costa Rica:

A terrific game, extremely entertaining and playful football, wonderful to watch. :) Probably a strategic nightmare for the coaches thought since both teams lacked severly in defense. 5-2 to Brazil, and plenty of chances. Brazil were playing "the beautiful game" again, the playing style everybody love to watch, question is how they will stand up against better opponents.

Turkey - China:

3-0, Turkey makes the last 16, which they IMO deserve. It would have been nice if China had managed to score a goal, they are goalless in their first WC participation. They had a few good chances, one that hit the wood, but in the 2nd half they got one player sent off, which of course dimished their chances to score.

@Bruce Lee: You were right about the penalty situation, I just watched the Swe-Arg match on video, kindly recorded by my husband yesterday :) Crespo is inside the penalty area far before Ortega takes the shot, his goal should actually have been disallowed. Well well, it didn't matter in the end.

I'm really looking forward to that game, a pity that the stupid Swedish TV doesn't show it live, they send it about 8 hours after it's actually played.

So close for another surprise today

Italy vs Mexico Italy played very bad in this game, but thanks to Eguador they didn't have to win. The game ended 1-1 and both teams passes to the next round. The last 5 minutes were a disgrace for football, both teams were walking in the field waiting for the ref to end the game. If you are planning to see this game take a look at what the ref did at the end :D

Brazil - Costa Rica Just impressive football from both teams especially from Brazil. Final 5-2. I've changed my mind about Brazil, i just love this team now :)

@ Demis

I'm a happy Juventus supporter regardless of how sloppy the game was. Now hopefully those anti-Juventus fans will stop booing Del Piero when he gets subbed on!

As for Brazil, yes they are impressive :D
