Yeah, but you can't rig baseball. It just doesn't work...
what about the 1919 chicago white sox and shoeless joe jackson. the only thing that kept that from working was too much leaked information and that could happen with any sport. Look at Boston college in the 80's when the players got busted for betting on and throwing their own games.

Kordell is not God. He choked, as usual, when his team needed him most. Now don't get me wrong, I'm a long time steelers fan as well as the pats. However, Kordell showed his true colors when their backs were against the wall.
Furthermore, I wouldn't agree Kordell makes McNabb look like Warner on the scramble (at least that's what your comment on the running game sounds like). McNabb actually had a better yds/att on rushing than kordell. Kordell did run five in compared to mcnabb's two though but yds/att is the stat to really look at.

Okay, this may get me smoked, but what actually did Kordell do this season? His TD to INT ratio was no good at all, he choked, as Ned pointed out, and let's face it, Pittsburgs defense is what carried them along with the running game.
Kordell is just Trent Dilfer that can run, except Tent Dilder didn't choke last year.
Don't get me wrong, I am not saying he is the worst quarterback to have on your team *Ahem* Jeff George*Ahem* or the dumbest *cough* Gus Frerotte *cough*
I can prove the Gus thing, how may other qb's have you seen purposly head butt a stadium?

Bloodstalker et al,
Despite what I wrote about Kordell, how he choked, etc... I feel he was robbed of the NFL MVP award this year. Kurt Warner, what a joke. He does one thing well and he's implanted in the perfect offense to do. That is, throw accurate passes on quick timing routes or long bombs.
Look at what Bellichek and the patriots did to the rams and warner, in particular, in the super bowl. Started running six and seven dback sets with switching zones and varying blitzes. How lost was Warner out there and Martz is an idiot for not recognizing and running the football more. Alas, I digress, but I was just pointing how Warner is not the MVP as he does one thing well.
Back to Kordell, MVP of the 2001 NFL season. Why, you ask. Well, let's see. He contributed to two medicore, at best, receivers to having outstanding seasons. When bettis went down and it looked like the offense woud collapse, he put the offense on his back, and they continued to win.
So BS, Kordell did do a lot this year. He had an amazing season. All I was pointing out by exploiting him choking against New England is that he is not Superman, he's just a guy like everyone else. Not many people can handle that pressure. For every winner out there, there are 20 times as many losers. Always.

I disagree Ned,
Yes bettis went down, but the running game never went away. The other running backs did outstanding jobs in his absence.
I watched the Steelers a few times this year, and saw nothing outstanding about the way Kordell played. Yes, he made some good throws, but I still don't see anything that special.
To me, he is a Pro Bowl quarterback the same way Guss Frerotte was a few years ago. And I am a huge Redskins fan, but it still irritated me that Gus made the pro bowl.
Then again, the way quarterbacks on the whole are used anymore irritates me. The saying off just manage the game, don't make mistakes.
As far as the steeler's recievers go, I agree, they had good years. But the defenses they face were loaded to stop Bettis. That was bound to open up things in the secondary.
I don't see the MVP thing either. Although I don't agree with Warner getting it, as the Ram's offense is basically Marshall Faulk. In my opinion, he opens up everything for the Rams.
An MVP should be able to carry a team in my opinion. Not just play efficiantly. I think McNabb would get the nod over Kordell, because there is NOTHING else on the Eagle's offence.
Anyway, just my opinion.

BS,
It'd be nice to find a weekly breakdown of the running attack for the steelers. I looked for a minute online and couldn't find anything that detailed. still overall numbers, it looks as if combined mu'afala and zeroueue carried the ball 20 less times for about 185 less yards. So yes, those guys stepped in and did pretty good.
I still feel losing bettis is huge and even though those two came in and did pretty well, I felt the balance hung on kordell's shoulders. I was actually in louisville for christmas and went out with my parents to watch the vikings at the packers (the packers being my team) the same day cinccy shocked the steelers in that bizarre football game with missed XP's and jon kitna racking up all kinds of yardage.
McNabb was second choice only because of a lesser record but yes, same thing, injured running backs and mediocre receivers. I still place kordell first amongst my choices of MVP for the season so I guess we just have to happily agree to disagree. It's sports and we're both boneheads so I doubt we'll fully sway the other's opinion. If anything, I should bow to your reasoning, I didn't watch the steelers as many times as you did. nuff said. see you at the tavern

I saw Kordell play some amazing games this year--I think the one I'm thinking of is versus the Ravens, but I'm not sure. McNabb is great at playing a running back style quarterback as well, but I don't think he has the same calibre built-in skill that Kordell has. Kordell turned down the Olympic track team to join the NFL! He already proved himself as a runner. He was a wide receiver before, too, which taught him good spins, etc. Who knows what will happen with Kordell in the future? Both he and McNabb are young players.
It will also be interesting when Michael Vick gets in the mix next year. He's supposed to have a lot of the same qualities.
Of course, I hate the Eagles because I'm a Giants fan.
