According to the radio, the bloodbanks(?) in Phoenix and Tuscon are being overwhelmed by people wanting to donate blood. They're getting names and phone numbers to call'em in when necessary. They're making appointments for people who want to do that. As tragic as this event is, it is also reassuring that Americans can unite together in such an event. It reminds me of the Charlie Daniels song "In America."

I'm not sure I got the words 100% correct, but I'm sure you get the idea. I believe that this is and will be happening in America.

@Nael: Well done -

@SS: If bin Laden turns out to be responsible, it's not impossible that even the Taliban's won't protect him any more by letting him stay in Afghanistan. What I fear is too swift US reprisals on unconfirmed targets - that's why I was relieved the US isn't responsible for the Kabul attacks.

@justAidan: Sleep well - I'll check out the book you recommended. Another book for people interested in a better understanding of the conflicts in the Middle east and the Western view of the Arab world, is "Orientalism" by Edward Said. I'm currently reading it.

@Yshania & C Elegans: G'night ladies. Sleep well.

I think the events of today have really made us all think a little bit of what can happen to people. If the most powerful Country in the World is susceptable to this sort of attack, then what about smaller countries? A bold statment was made today by terrorists. I hope that we (As North Americans, and even as people of the world) and reprise approprieatly, and justly.

I agree. A bold statement has been made. We must make a bold and just reply. :(

i'm scared

my dad works in the pentagon, i haven't heard if his alright or not. i can't get in touch with my mother. i thinking the worst. my husband thinks that the silence means that nothing happened to him. but i'm not sure. my brother's workplace is close to the pentagon. my husband is on standby and i feel f$$$$ing useless. i couldn't get on the net earlier to findout anything because we had to keep our phone line open.

i'm worried. does anyone have loved ones near the bombed area?

@Thorin: US has confirmed they aren't involved in the attacks at Kabul

Afghanistan has had a civil war for 20 years :( Yesterday, an anti Taliban opposition leader was attacked by some kind of bomb. (The former president, I think). So the attacks of Kabul today is believed to be retaliation for that. Probably the anti Taliban movement figures it's a good moment to strike, since everything is so chaotic, also in Kabul :( And they receive more media attention for the attack because of the events in the US - normally, Afghanistan is not making head line news. :(

But the question is who did this?
Bin Ladin declines it and Taliban declines it and Palestine can't aford to do it.
I believe Bn Laden, Why would he lie?

I also hope the opposition in Afghanistan will somehow manage to overthrow the Talibans.

I listened to a Middle East expert on BBC, and he said that if it was a fanatic fundamentalist muslim group (like any of the groups supported by Bin Laden) who's behind this, it's not sure they would take on responsibility officially. Some of these groups reason that "if god sees it, thats enough".
