'90: Italy never defeated on the field, out at PENALTIES vs Argentina
'94: Italy never defeated on the field, lost the FINAL AT PENALTIES!!
'98: Italy I think again unbeaten on the field, out at PENALTIES vs France

Penalties, our curse.
Now, I can accept BAD LUCK, but I CANNOT accept what they're doing to us
this year!
FOUR goals cancelled, only the last one was PROBABLY irregular, the other
THREE were DAMN REGOLAR!!!
It's a record for sure. This is a THEFT.
At the last goal of ours, all the players turned their heads to see
if it was to be cancelled again...
THIS CAN'T GO ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@demis: only Mexico held the ball in the last 5 minutes...

@Tamerlane

If Totti continues to play like this i believe Del will do much better,

And i was very dissapointed with the italian trio today

@Littiz

Yes Italy was unbeated for 3 WCs :)

As for the cancelled goals, i agree that both goals with Croatia were valid but today's goals were not IMO. The second as you also said was offside, and i think the first was slightly offside too. But 4 goal are a record! either valid or not.

Even the fourth was REGULAR....
Seen now at TV...
All agree...
Montella's body was only partially beyond the defense line,
so even this one was regular!!!
Do they know football rules at all?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

This is grotesque!!!
Unbelievable!!!
FOUR GOALS CANCELLED IN TWO MATCHES!!!
We do THREE goals every match, only to receive ONE on the score!!

So be it! We'll be against EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE!!!!
We'll show them all!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT: Demis, don't you know the rules??
The first was right upon the area line, it was EVIDENT that at the
moment of the passage NONE was beyond the defense!

I've seen them 100 times!
Both today's goals were REGULAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice sig, Littiz, but maybe you've been staring at a computer screen a little too long :) . Go for a walk. Have a glass of cool water, take ten deep breaths, and we'll talk it over :D ...

As for Italy's dissallowed goals, yeah IMHO they were all valid. The refering has been of a good standard this WC IMO, but the linesman are all a bunch of incompetent merceneries... They are absolutely appaling... Sometimes it seems as if they count off-side from when a man receives the ball rather than from when it was played....
I would like to see some sort of electronic/laser system like the one they have for False Starts in the Olympics being used. We'll see...

ps Could someone translate 'remercie' for me?

you just don't understand what is football for us! :D

I hate everybody at the moment!

@Littiz: Easy, it's a game, and Italy made the last 16 anyway :) That's the important thing. It is very likely you'll meet the US in the next round, that's not so bad, is it? :)

@Littiz. Interesting this idea, if someone loose by penaltys, mean that don't loose and is unbeatable. BTW, penalty, for me still "in field". And occur by the inconpetence of both team to win the game.
Since Argentina is out, I hope for a ItalyXBrazil at finals*

*-with prorrogation, penaltys and some Arbiter help too :D :D :D
This time Totti(the Model) will miss.

@Littiz um if your partially beyond the the second to last defender you are offsides. So dont argue because I am a referee. :p :D

Oh the USA now officially rocks at soccer as we beat Portugal and tied Mighty S. Korea so watch out you dirty Italian Kniggets, (joke for all those who would hunt me down for insulting Italy's football playing ability). :D ;)

Hmmm...I thought a nod beyond the final line of defence (excluding the goalie), at the time that the ball is played, is offside :)

A player is 'onside' if he is in line with the 'last' defender - excluding the goalkeeper - at the time the ball is played :)

I don't think the majority of the linesmen at this WC can spot if the player is a nod beyond... I have never seen such bad linesmen ever in football.
Hey Littiz... This must still be pretty good by Italian standards... I mean to qualify with a whole point to spare :D

@Delacroix: I'm not saying penalties are unlegitimate, only that they're more random than the regular match.
I find it a bit irritating to be kicked out in 5 minutes when nobody's
beaten us in the "normal" way.
But, hey, OK, is part of the game.
What I can't bear is THEFT!!!!!

@Word: I do argue, where are you a referee?
In our league, (not the crappiest of leagues, I think we follow the standard rules) you're offside IF, at the moment the ball is PLAYED, you're with MORE THAN HALF of the body beyond the last defender........
Anyway this is in debate only for the fourth, the other three were
regular beyond arguing.
(Do they know that a back-passage can never be called offside?
Happened in the second match.... Not only Vieri was in a regular
position, the passage was a back-passage too!!!!!! )

@Bruce: of course, we're qualified, after all! ;)
but damn!
We've been close to elimination, 'cause those damned linesmen
cancelled FOUR of our goals!
I mean, one, it may happen... two maybe.........

anyway...
Next match, I WANT a FAIR arbitration
or BLOOD will be demanded!!!
USA would be a hard opponent

And, oh!!! Poor Batigol !!! He played in my city's team (fiorentina)
for many years.... this was his last World Cup.... :(

@Yshania it is the second to last defender so if the goalie is beyond the last defender he becomes the line.

@Littiz im a FIFA certified ref in the USA.

@Word: Interesting, so you're actually a ref. What do you think about all the focus on the bad refereeing? Do you think the critisism is fair? What do you believe are the reasons for all those seemingly erranous decisions?

@CE its not as though I am gods gift to refereeing i mean i do u19 competitive club ball but thats as high as i have gone.

But heres my take I believe some of the complaints are justified(the Germany-Cameroon game was horrendous) but others are a bit overdone. Some of Italy's goals could have gone the other way but some i cannot fault the referee on for the decisions. I believe that nearly any look at the referees is justified as they can swing the results of nearly any game. :)

@Word: ok, I take your word for the rule, though I've always known it
that way, from when I was a child, and always seen applied that way.
Here at least! :)
I corrected my signature, even though the TV here keeps saying that ALL the goals were regular (ok, they're biased :D )

But, again, the other three WERE regular.
Hey, it's not that I don't understand how difficult can be, takin'
a decision at the very moment.
The real problem is that everytime there was a doubt, they decided
against us.
This is a biased behaviour, especially when you see that the decisions
were wrong.

No, the real problem is this system!!!!
They have 1000000 cameras, 100000 technical means, lasers, all they want,
and STILL they leave such decisions to ONE man.......
I'm so angry vs referees (no offence ;) ), because I believe
all remains this way 'cause they want CONTROL.
Or the possibility to gain control when needed!!!
It's true even in the italian league....
This is my opinion.

Hmmm, intersting sig you have ;)

As for your point on referees. Which I don't agree with you, no offence meant. :) The refs decision is final, and giving control cameras will under mine the sport in general. Just look at cricket with their constant use of the third man (umpire in a media box). It places more critical pressure on to the referees, forcing the younger generations not wanting to become referees as a result. This will, just as in cricket lead to poorer unenthusiastic referees who will then make more mistakes knowing that they are under constant scrutiny.

I have refereed a game before, and let me tell you that the pressure is immense. These guys do an unthanking job and contribute greatly to the sport and its comments like those that give them a bad name, which they don't deserve when its the players and their selfish mannerism thats causing all the fuss. I do agree that certain refs in the WC have made mistakes due to their inexperience as I've stated earlier in this thread. But thats the way the learning curve works. ;)

It's because of the pressure that things can't be handled
this way...
40 millions people stopped their work to see the match, streets
empty.. and we have to see such things.
They should be HELPED with technological means, this also
would add credibility to the system. IMHO :)
And they have to learn BEFORE a world cup, in any case
yet, I add that I'd put out of the competion any player
who PRETENDS to receive a fault.

(ok, after the next match I'll copy my old signature again! :D )
