I'm thinking that it doesn't really mean that one of your SYMian neighbors is actually putting them there; I think you're being sarcastic. Problem is, I just had an issue that's making me wonder the same thing:

The Issue
After a series of bloody wars between the nations of Maxtopia and North Bigtopia, fights have broken out in the streets between immigrants in Qasama who came from the warring nations.

The Debate
"Foreigners are a major cause of civil disturbances," begins Klaus Utopia, whose opinions form the book '101 Arguments FOR Slavery'. "What we should do is make all immigrants, foreigners, and non-native Qasama folks slaves! I mean, who in Qasama wouldn't like a minority slave group to do his bidding? Imagine! People could be bought and sold over the Internet!"
[Accept]

"I am shocked and appalled at what my colleague is suggesting!" exclaims Pip Rubin, President of the Civil Rights Union of Qasama. "Slavery? We should punish these offenders, yes, but send them to rehabilitation centres instead! As for the ethnic squabbles, programs in school should begin to stop these racist attitudes in childhood! All it will take is some slight fortification to the education budget!"
[Accept]

A quiet old man stands up to speak. "Now, I may be a quiet old man, but I believe that these ethnic disputes are none of the government's business. It's not our war anyway, so it's not our problem. I'm sure if you leave it alone, it'll work itself out. Just think of the money that would be saved if the police don't have to be paid to deal with this!"
[Accept]

"It's not our war? It's not our war?" cries (in)famous Qasama-born fascist Abraham Dodinas. "Well maybe it's time it became our war! Qasama should take a more active, and by 'active' I mean 'hostile', role in international politics! This ethnic squabbling will be over when the war is over, and WE can end that war and purge the impure! One people. One voice. One nation.! Sieg Qasama!"
[Accept]

Now, that is odd. I want to go with the fourth option because if I win, I triple the size of my country (with it's 924th rank in the region for Highest Police Ratios). But I dunno if this means I've been invited to participate in one of those role-played wars on the boards. I'm pretty sure it isn't, but it made me wonder...

This isn't an invitation to a war.... it is just a generic issue like all the others. It doesn't cause any interaction with any other country. And I don't think that "winning the war" would actually increase your population.

I was pretty sure of that; which is why I moved to SYMistan after I decided on that one. :D I knew it wouldn't.

But no one said I wanted my population numbers to triple. I just want more land.

Oh... my... god... That issue where I was supposed to go to war with my two neighbors didn't exactly go as I had kind of hoped.

UN Category: Inoffensive Centrist Democracy
Civil Rights:
Good Economy:
Fair Political Freedoms:
Good

Location: Symistan Regional Influence: Handshaker

The People's Republic of Qasama is a very large, environmentally stunning nation, remarkable for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed population of 121 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Public Transport. The average income tax rate is 54%, and even higher for the wealthy. A small but healthy private sector is led by the Information Technology industry, followed by Book Publishing and Cheese Exports.

Qasama's first free elections in recent memory have been successfully concluded, school uniforms are compulsory, a massive campaign is underway to ensure the race of Qasama remains pure, and a government program is underway to revitalize Qasama's beaches. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Qasama's national animal is the politician, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the rice Krispie treat.

Qasama is ranked 33,519th in the world for Highest Police Ratios.

Edit: Geez, there's a lot of Enforcer and Instigator rates for regional influence in Symistan. I wish there was some kind of chart to at least give a rough description of what these mean and how they rate on some kind of scale.

This one is classy...

The Issue

The women of Belzodaine are demanding an end to wage discrimination in the workplace.

The Debate

1. "The government must put a stop to businesses discriminating against women when they apply for a job!" chants Zeke Mombota, a ferocious supporter of women's rights. "Did you know that on average men in Belzodaine earn four times the amount that women do for doing the same job?! For too long has the female race been discriminated against in our society due to their sex! We demand equal wages, equal opportunities, and equal respect for women and we demand them now!"

2. "Hey, my business is treading a thin enough profit margin as it is," complains Violet Shiomi, CEO of Heavy Lifting Incorporated. "Women just aren't as good as men at certain jobs, it's a probably proven fact! Take firefighting - if you were dying from smoke inhalation and collapsed on the floor unable to move, who would you prefer to attempt to rescue you? A man with superior muscular strength or some weakling female? Go on, you decide. Let the businesses decide what they pay and who they pay it to - after all, the economy depends on us."

3. "Hah! Our society is getting far too soft!" rages Jennifer Steele, a staunch male chauvinist. "Whatever happened to the days when a man could go back home to find his good lady wife with his tea ready and his slippers warm? I've heard that some men even have to cook and clean for themselves! Let us return to the days when it was just the men who went out to bring home the bacon! A brand new golden age!"

4. "Personally I think things went wrong as soon as women got labelled as the 'fairer' sex," interrupts Catherine Gratwick, author of the best-selling novel 'Gynaecocracy For Beginners'. "We're strong, we're willing - and we're just plain better than men. See what a state the world is in when they're in charge? I propose that all the men should stay home and be househusbands whilst the women go out to work and earn the wage packet!"

The only person with the right gender-name is the last one. But I guess if my parents named me Jennifer I'd be pretty chauvinistic too.... at least they could have named him Sue. :D

Ah, number 3 and number 4 are so tempting, just to screw with things...

LOL That's hilarious. If I was more awake, I'd've probably actually laughed aloud at Jennifer Steele, staunch male chauvinist. Okay, I just did (ugh, it's gonna be one of those days; I feel so sick :( ).

Oh man, this is funny, too.

The People's Republic of Qasama is a very large, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its punitive income tax rates. Its hard-nosed population of 127 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Public Transport. Qasama is ranked 10th in the region and 68,686th in the world for Stupidest Citizens.

In a region with only 13 countries, I feel quite proud of my education system right now. Somehow, Damnu's people are the best educated of the lot. :p

And I recently got some voting issue a second time around; I was sorely tempted to go with my brother (whose name I forget except for the fact that it was a woman's name) again, who suggested to do away with elections altogether, but I decided to go with that ridiculous label of the Inoffensive Centrist Democracy. -.-

I think my population should be higher..... I already allowed refugees come in, and I'm about to let more come in. If "refugees from other nations are flocking to Belzodaine's border" and my legislation let's them in, shouldn't that pack my population? The opposition kept talking about the hoardes of billions of people that were going to "tek ther jerrrbs".

I guess the programmers missed that. Your population should've gone up when you did that. And then later, you should really get some kind of green card issue, and people are complaining cuz all the refugees "tek ther jerrrbs."

Yeah, it would be really cool if you could link certain issues to the state of your country. Like if you abolish prisons you don't have any prisoner rights issues come up... but that would take quite a bit of work to link them all together and trying to get new issues to fit in the cracks would be a delicate job, even if you promise to only leave it in for a minute.
