From Gamespot's review: Not only is Shogun a challenging and engrossing 3D real-time tactical combat game, but it also features a great turn-based strategy component that complements the combat wonderfully.
I just didn't like the turn-based component of it at all. No more than I liked Fallout Tactics.
That reminds me--another game you should not buy:
Fallout Tactics

On that i agree, I realy loved fallout 1&2, then come tactics and removed everything i liked but kept the bad things like the combat system.
Another game i realy disliked was delta force for its completly dull gameplay.

I actually enjoy turn-based strategy games, but agree that Fallout Tactics was a bore.
You'll note that Interplay has gotten wise to the idea of stringing completely unrelated games together under a single franchise, by reusing the name and setting of a bestseller. Fallout Tactics is one example. The new mindless twitch game based on BG2 for one of the consoles is another.

I am personally never going to buy anymore games from Westwood Studios; Dune 2000 was a horrible excuse for a game, Tiberian Sun didn't live up to its expectations, RA2 was fun for awhile, but the produce-one-unit/structure-at-a-time was rather annoying(I paid 159 bucks for it, and what I got was a box with a pretty useless manual and the 2 CDs

).

This was not the case with the rest of the series. Recently my wife bought Exile for us to play together, and I have found it to be sterile and rather boring. I attribute this in part to having a great deal more experience with gaming and thus a higher level of expectation for my gaming experience. She made me promise not to play it without her. Not a problem.
I played The Longest Journey over the summer and loved it. For an adventure game, it dealt with some fairly mature themes and the main character was intriguing. It reminded me of my favorite adventure game, Noctropolis. I don't mind the linearity of such games: to me it is like reinacting a novel. I simply adjust my expectations.

I had pretty much the same experience with Myst and its sequels as you. My wife and I played the first one together, and enjoyed the puzzles and the artwork. My expectations were greater for the second (Rivin), which were not met. The back-story or culture appeared to be well-developed but poorly explained. Not very satisfying to someone like me. My wife actually lost interest and I finished it out of pure spite. We will not purchase the third.
Oddly, I played Noctropolis too (I wasn't sure that anyone else would know about this game!

)! Linear stories don't bother me as well, though in this case it wasn't so much a novel as it was a comic book. Part of its appeal to me, I guess.

Imperialism II The Age of Exploration. The lesson learned here was "don't judge a book by its cover."

Hey, I really liked Imperialism II.

Guess that just shows great minds don't necessarily think alike.

The problem with that game was that I never had the patience to sit down and figure it out. Other people have told me that its a good game but I am to stubborn and obstinate to try playing it again. But I must admit that the box looks very cool.

Yeah, it is a very tough game to learn, although Imperialism II was a lot less difficult than Imp I. Turn-based strategy addicts want all the difficulties they can find, provided its well-integrated and balanced. That's probably why I like Patrician II so much.
Oh, here's another dud: Diplomacy. It was one of the curses Hasbro published using the Microprose brand after purchasing that label (how the mighty are fallen!), and it was braindead. The game was panned by everybody, even the most obsequious, self-serving websites that live to lavish spittle on the shoes of a paying advertiser.

I've just seen a new computer action game, based on the Survivor television series. Anyone want to lay odds against its being a dog whose main value lies in the title?

Anybody here about MobRules?
I got the demo which was cool.
But the game sucked big time.
I liked the premise, where you start off as a small mobster and then fight for territory and special stuff, like a cement factory etc.
But it was very poorly designed.
All the levels were the same and the it was very very easy.
Heck a 2 year old could have finished it in a day.

Can't say I've seen it, no. I did see Gangster 2, which was a real disappointment. Gangster 1 had a worse interface, but it was non-linear. Gangster 2 was simply an unimaginative, very linear series of scenarios, without a lot of the additional options you find in merc games.

BG1, Swords Coast, BG2, ToB, IWD and HoW.
These games are the devils work, you shouldn't play them. You all will become warped and twisted, like me. I have become the arrogant and ignorant American. Your worst nightmare, your mother in law.

@DP, if you were my mother-in-law, this would be some exploitationist horror film, and Dubbyah would probably be my father-in-law.
I'm probably going to catch flak for this, but I think SimCity 3000 is pretty damn dull. Once you've mastered the equations, there's very little to do. I keep hoping the developers will realize that sticking different shaped houses in your city doesn't automatically mean that the Japanese, French and Americans have the same views about high intensity residential growth, pollution, etc, but they argue that we're all just clones, anyway. Perhaps they're right.

Stay away from the following games as much as possible, people:
AD&D Blood and Magic (very cheap and awful Warcraft rip-off)
Lands of Lore series (blarrgh!!!)
Might & Magic 4 to 7 (boring and easy)
Daggerfall (this game is the most awful game I have ever played on the PC; dungeon after dungeon after dungeon after corridor after corridor after corridor; boring, repetetive, redundant,etc....)

As objective as I want to be, yet I still not recommend any games produced by Ubisoft. my buddies who love to play Champoinship manger gives lots of complains about Ubisoft "FootBall World manager 2000" and The "Pool Of Radiance" which I played only for 2 weeks feels really awkward for an RPG game.

M&M VII, easy? Are you sure you don't mean M&M VIII, which let you add a dragon to your party? That option made the game ridiculously unbalanced. The greatest problem I had with M&M VII was that it eventually became something of a Monty Haul, but VIII which much worse.
