@Minerva - I can sympathise with the moving home bit. I calculated I had moved 23 times in my first 23 years I spent my first 5 years in London living out of black sacks
Though I have had only two homes in the last 9/10 years We only moved then because our family expanded...

The board is now 1 hour behind PST(Pacific Standard Time). It is now in Alaska's time zone, which is 9 hours behind GMT.Originally posted by Maharlika:

That's nothing, Ysh, I moved 21 times in 16 years, not counting the first 2-3 years of my life when me and my parents lived on the road 'moving' from hotel/motel to hotel/motel once a weak on average, often going all the way across the country. The longest I've lived in one town is 3 years, but I lived in four different houses during that time. I don't have a place I call home.Originally posted by Yshania:

I wish I have moving with my family/partner, really. I have to think and do everything myself, and that does get to me. Even if I ask (and pay) removal company to do all the job, it's still stressful, because I can't talk and discuss to someone in my house, you know.Originally posted by Yshania:

I can understand this, and as a result have no 'childhood friends' left. I had not moved before the age of five when I went to live with my Dad. In the following 18 years I moved 23 times. I went to so many different schools in my time it was surprising I got any qualifications...Posted by SS -

At 13 I went to school in London for a year. On returning to Yorkshire I was two years behind and had a hell of a lot of catching up to do in so little time...(I did it though ) The good thing was the generosity of the headteacher at my new school who used to give me free private lessons to bring me up and avoid what I was so against - being kept down a year.
This is disgusting when you consider the two school were only 200 miles apart, that one year in one could put me two years behind in another Hopefully with the new curriculum moves over here, though it is very stressful for teachers and puts pressure on the kids, it should pan out that all kids across the UK get the same basic education...
When you are moving a great distance it adds more stress. As my many moves as a child were orchestrated by my parents, and as an adult I was careful enough to keep my belongings to four black sacks I didn't find it so stressful. With me the stress came from a need to settle.Posted by Minerva -

Many of my house moves have been done on the Tube or later with the help of a friends car

I only ended up "behind" once, the time I moved from Ruidosa, New Mexico back to Kerrville, Texas. It was about ¼ the way through the second semester of 4th grade. The 4th grade reading teacher had started the 4th grade students on Hooked On Phonics at the beginning of the school year, so they were all about ¾ the way through it when I started going there. I had to start at the beginning. Having been an avid reader since I learned how to read(before I started school), I zipped through the entire Hooked On Phonics thing in 2 months, finishing up just before we moved again, the school year still going on. I hate Hooked On Phonics, btw. I was usually somewhat ahead of the rest of the class(and sometimes the teacher).Originally posted by Yshania:

It is sad that schools in one area are behind the schools in another area like that. If a student out here in Arizona moved to Texas, she'd be academically behind. I knew a 2nd grader out here who, by the standards of AZ schools, had a 5th grade reading level. The students in my first grade class in Kerrville, Texas and the ones in my first grade class in Fort Worth, Texas(1st semester at one, 2nd semester at the other) could read better than this 2nd grader does...reading doesn't seem to be as important to Arizonans in general. It may just be localized to Coolidge and Florence, but with the standardization they have in the schools in this state, it's hard to see how it could be localized like that.
Everytime we move, we have to rent a bigger U-Haul Truck. Last time, we had to rent the biggest, plus filling up our small car, our full size van, and our travel trailer. We've gotten more stuff now, so if we move again, we'll have to have the biggest U-Haul truck pulling the biggest U-Haul trailer, plus our van filled up pulling a fully loaded travel trailer plus my Firebird filled up pulling our Malibu filled up.Originally posted by Yshania:
