Not only that, OCing will void most manufacturers warranties.

oh that, yeah i know lol. but the individual parts are all pretty cheap so it wont be much of a fuss to replace a processor or motherboard etc.

An update.

Finally wrapped up my first ever custom build after a couple of days of careful and painstaking work. Cable management is a nightmare. Still, the hard work was worth it, and the system now runs both Windows 7 and Dragon Age flawlessly. :D

Specifications as follows;

Processor: AMD Athlon II X4 620
Motherboard: MSI 770-C45
RAM: OCZ Special Ops 4GB PC3-8500 kit
Hard drive: WD Caviar Blue 320GB
Graphics Card: PowerColor HD4870 512MB

Hey guys, I just built this gaming rig about 3 months ago.

Desktop
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 2.66 ghz
Gigabyte Ga-ep45-ud3p motherboard
4 gb Kingston DDR 2 800
Antec true power 650 watt psu
lite-on 24x dvd/rw
western digital caviar blue 500 gb hard drive
BFG GTX 260 OC 2
Antec 900 Case
Samsung 24" 2494 SW
Windows 7 64-Bit Ultimate
I can play Crysis with all settings at Ultra and still get 45 fps
Any other game I can play at high or ultra high settings without a problem
This was also my first build and I'm glad my PC didn't blow up! LOL

Have you tried turning the options back to high in Crysis? Performance should improve by then and the visual quality should be nearly the same as the ultra setting minus some graphical effects.

Judging by your rig, you should be able to play both Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 1 & 2 and CoD: World at War at the 'Extra' settings without any problems. GTA IV might run well with most settings to the max (I said this because a number of people with Quads and GTX equivalent cards ran into performance problems with all settings to the max).

Most UE3-based games like Bioshock, Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Mirror's Edge and others should run fine at everything to the max.

It matters if you play multiplayer, especially shooters. If you play single-player, anything above 30 should be satisfactory. ;)

Mine's in my sig. I just changed from a 9800gtx+ with 512mb to the 465 with 1gb because I couldn't run NWN2 with shadows at high with the 512mb - needs 800mb+.

Vantage went from P8448 to P13707, and to P16355 when I very briefly OC'ed the 465.

well comp 2 kinda died when the belts in my front right tire broke but the tire didnt pop and it was major bone rattling vibrations for and hour and a half drive which shook the hdd to death and i have a back up 60gb but its squeaking is so old so i dont use it much if any. also my old dell mouse finally died(very bad double click problem) so now i use a kensiko 3 button ball mouse as i havent bought a new one yet (snatched unused one from grandparents) and i am seriously debating buying a razer naga so if you have any info on one i would love to hear it(personal or friends info only as i can read forums myself).

i also built a third computer witch is now my back up or computer #2 and my previous secondary computer is now #3(at least when i get it going again) so here is
computer #2
1)desktop
2)amd athlon x64 3800+ @2.4ghz temps unknown

11)old dell keyboard and kensiko ball mouse(sucks for first person shooters)
12)RCA 1000w 5.1 surround sound
13)Linux Ubuntu 32 bit version 9.10
14)none, well it plays movies just fine(might install doom3 just to see what it does)

and if your wondering why the gfx card is the same as my main computer that is because it is the gfx card from my main comp. while playing sc2 i played a million zergling map got to the stage after the speedlings(2k kills i think) and had enough seige tanks and photon cannons that i hit 2 fps with my 4670 so i bought a new one for it an XFX Radeon HD 6950 2gb (not flashed.....yet) which runs sacred 2 w/ every thing maxed and physx turned off @45fps when my old 4670 ran it at 20 something in game(w/lower settings) and in the menu i got 13fps  and my new one gets 96fps in the menu @ same settings and runs cooler doing it ~40/45C with fan speed @45% and 840core/1250memory clocks. im going to have to play the million zergling map again just to see what my new card does.

Ah, the show off thread!

For any games released after 2007 i use an E8400 Intel with a 4870 radeon and 4gb ram, however most of the time i use one of my laptops. Have a few backup pc's.

I didn't encounter a worthy enough software that would make me upgrade my hardware again.

These are the best keyboard and mouses. Although all my mice have a wheel. Never liked the 10+ buttons bricks that people tend to call "mouse"

is your keyboard one of those legendary ibm mechanical keyboards? i think it would be the m series if it was.

do you have your cpu or gfx card oc'd any?

No, i didn't oc anything yet.

1. There was no need for it yet, everything goes smoothly.
2. I prefer when the PC cooling can work silently enough for me to hear my own breathing

Am thinking of buying another within the next 6 months or so when Windows 7 comes out (I've always been on board with the new windows versions :o ) - have my eyes on a nifty high end one but it does cost a bit, but been a long time since I've spoiled myself. :)
Whoa - this is a long time ago.

I'm tired of the current one again - I need new hardware to play with. Too expensive now, with the house and car and ... well... I'm just too cheap.

Current one is some I7 thingy, 12 GB RAM, GTX470, a SSD and some other stuff thrown in.
