The Order of the Dark Flame: Book 5. (story, no spam)
Aegis nodded as more people joined the common room. He had relaxed after being warmly invited in, and his weapons, and quiver leaned gently against the leg of the chair he was sitting on. He didn't speak anything yet, letting Nippy, Mysteria and the halfling discuss amongst themselves. He found his eyes lofting gently towards one of the new comers, T'lainya unknownest to him. Something about this woman fascinated him. He flashed her a breif, delicate elven smile her way before turning his attention back to the others. Already he was begining to feel more comfortable than when he was out on the road, but was to become content as he was out there. He was going to wait patiently, not really desiring to push any questions, or join in, just sat listening.
Dismounted, Farscape strode up to the walls of a large building. He could feel the stones warmth drawing him in. But that wasn't the sole allure of the place. It was a gathering of the great. People of power, he thought.
Suddenly nervous, he thought of the reaction of those inside to his presence. Although he was a warrior of considerable skill, so were those inside. If they did not react well...
So be it. Perhaps in death he mind find a peace he had lacked in life. Loosing his blades in their sheaths, he stepped boldly into the unknown.

The waves came crashing in like blindness.
So I just stood and listened.
So I just stood and listened.
Sitting close to Nippy, Mysteria took the occasion to ask him the different Dark Flames' names. He quickly told her their names and she found out that the familiar looking man was called Thantor. Thantor..., she mused, no, it didn't ring a bell.
Staring at the mudddy tracks she had left, she felt silly. She wished the others wouldn't come in to see them, and another slight touch of magic surged through her, but to no effect, as far as she could see.
Settling back, she watched the scene, waiting for some explications on what happened. Seeing the elf Aegis doing the same, she gave him a quick smile, but he seemed quite fascinated by T'lainya.

"All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players."
Thantor considered his situation rapidly from multiple perspectives, but was at a loss to explain what had happened. It would seem more logical to assume that Yshania's spirit would have ended up in Vivien's body, since she was Yshania's last contact and because Vivien was female. Rarely caught off-guard, Thantor couldn't have been more shocked if Yshania had suddenly appeared in his morning shower. To have someone inside his mind... to share his consciousness with an almost total stranger... was very disturbing. He began to understand how some of the people he had tended to at the asylum in SYMvania must have felt. (
)
Deciding it was best to take Yshania to her room, given all of the activity in the kitchen, Thantor, Jenna, and Vivien balanced her while Simbul levitated her body in the correct direction. Yshania felt a strange and eerie sensation as she watched her body, death-like, float over the stone floor. They gently laid her on her bed and Vivien sat down next to her, taking Yshania hand in hers, a worried look on her face. "Will we be able to put her back together?" Vivien said uncertainly. "Yes, I think we should be able to," Thantor said quietly. "What do you mean...you think? interjected Yshania. "Excuse me... I need to use my mind right now. Could you please go powder a troll or something for a minute," Thantor retorted.
Simbul spoke for the first time, "Thantor, I need to speak with you... alone." Unamused by the irony of the request, Thantor looked at Jenna and said, "I need to speak to Anicka. Could you ask her to meet me in my room?" Then he asked Vivien if she could collect his potion bag and a warm blanket from the treatment area downstairs. As they turned to leave, Simbul looked at both of them and said, "You did well today." The compliment barely registered with Vivien, her concern for Yshania uppermost in her mind, but Jennabard was greatly pleased by it. Neither woman said anything and simply left the room.
When they had left, Simbul looked at him sharply and said, "Did you send couriers to the four corners of Faerun? What the hell are we doing with a roomful of strangers on the eve of an supposedly secret assault? Any one of them could be a spy... or worse."
"I case you haven't noticed, I have pretty much had my hands full the whole time you have been here." Thantor growled. "Why do you think it has anything to do with me?" "Is she always like this?" Yshania asked. "No... sometimes she is worse," Thantor replied acidly.
"I know how fond you are of group activities." "What exactly does she mean by that?" Yshania asked, curiosity aroused. "Never mind," Thantor said, brushing her off. "Hard to do at the moment," Yshania replied impishly, rather enjoying this.
"Simbul, as you can see I am rather busy at the moment. If you have concerns, why don't you use your considerable skills to address them." Simbul considered him intently for a moment, then, amazingly, broke into a smile. "Yes... I am beginning to appreciate that. When you are done giving Yshania a piece of your mind, come find me." She opened a Dimension Door and disappeared.
Thantor sat down heavily on the bed. Finally... a moment of piece. He eventually turned his full attention to his "inner guest". She apparently had full recovered from the initial shock and turned to meet his mental gaze. Being psionic, much of Thantor psyche was like a underground complex: deep and hidden from view. Yshania's psyche, however, was a meadow with her life experiences hanging like fruit from peach trees stretching to the horizon. In a moment, he beheld the full breadth of Yshania's life, her inner thoughts, her intimate memories. Not being telepathic, he had only rarely touched the mind of another and then only vaguely... nothing like this.
"Thantor....?" Yshania asked, uncertainly. Realizing that he was doing the mental equivalent of staring, Thantor erected twin Bastions of Will. "You asked me if I had ever done this before. No, Yshania, I have not."
"Just now... what happened?"
"Your mind was unprotected, so I created psionic barriers to give us both some privacy."
"You saw me... from the inside?"
"Yes." Yshania was silent but Thantor could guess what she was experiencing.
"Do you want to experience what I saw... through my eyes?" He felt her laugh, a little nervously. "Do I want to?"
"Your choice." She considered this, then said, "Ok." He demonstrated how to lower the bastion so that they could communicate more directly. Suddenly her mind was flooded with an image. It appeared to be a valley that had been scorched by fire, but that now was now reborn -- the new growth strong, healthy, and true. It was at once enchanting... and beautiful.
At that moment, Gwally entered the room. "We need to talk, Thantor. It's about Georgi."

The Temple's defenses had been breached. The Witch King's (no relation to SYM's resident version) undead horde had finally overrun and desecrated the holy ground.
Such was the power regained by the Lich.
Bathed in undead blood, Maegenhelm and his younger brother, Maharlika have been tirelessly repulsing the Enemy's host wave after wave after wave.
"Wala na bang katapusan ito, Kuya?"(Is there no end to this, Big Brother?) uttered Maharlika as a couple more ghoulish limbs are sent flying back.
Clearing the latest wave, Maegenhelm signals the remaining members of his squad to retreat to the waiting chamber."Kakayanin natin ito. Magtiwala kayo!" (We will prevail. Have faith!)
"Hindi dapat nila makuha ang Banal na Sabsaban!"(They must not be able to get the Holy Manger!) Maegenhelm's weary face looking still very much determined. Maharlika couldn't help but give a smile. For a minute there, his older sibling looked very much like their late father, Lord Ilrac II.
"Kapitan, marami pa rin sila. Sa bawat isa na bumagsak, tatlo ang nabubuhay!" (Captain, they are too many of them. For every enemy that we kill, three arise to take its place!)
That's Gabriel, the squad's second in command. He orders Maharlika, Thrydmund, Arrand and Eonyre to lock the double doors and reinforce the lock with whatever they can find inside. The next room is the Sanctum of the Holy Vessel.
Yes, they are the Temple's last line of defense. Their Order's Oath is what is keeping them from giving in.
"Tenyente, ilang minuto na lang at dadating ang bukang liwayway..." (Lieutenant, just a few more minutes and the dawn will be breaking...)
KA-BOOOOM!
"ETO NA, ETO NA!!!" (This is it, this is it!!!)
Things happened so fast. The doors were blasted, sending splinters to their direction...
...expecting another wave of ghouls and zombies, the remaining paladins were initially surprised upon seeing the Lich himself enter the chamber along with his elite band of deathknights.
In unison, the last of the Holy Guards uttered their battlecry, "Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam!"
The rest was a blurr...
...a blinding flash...
"What the...?"
Maharlika gets up, half expecting the enemies to be still about. But that cannot be. The sun is already up. Way up.
He looks around fully realizing that he is outdoors. The terrain is unfamiliar, the plants themselves he never recalled seeing before.
He is alone.
"Where... am... I?"

Gwalchmai stopped at the threshold and looked at Yshania’s body, then looked at Thantor’s face. “So its true? Viv and Jenna told me all about it. Is she really in there with you, Thantor? How horrible. For her, I mean. And you too, of course.” Gwalchmai grinned, “Or maybe I should call you Yshantor? Or Thania?” He walked over to the bed and looked at Yshania’s face. “If she’s not in her body, then who is?” He rapped sharply on Yshania’s forehead with his knuckles and yelled in one ear, “Hello? Anybody in there? Anomen? Is that you again?”
“Do you mind?” Thantor said, his voice cracking. Half of Thantor’s face looked amused, and the other looked perturbed. “You said you wanted to ask me about Georgi?”
“Oh, right!” Gwalchmai paced the room as he spoke, “I’ve been looking for Georgi all over. There’s no trace of her on the grounds, or in the keep. Her horse is still here. I searched her room, and her chain mail and Flame Tongue are untouched. Even her underwear is still in the drawer of her dresser,” Thantor raised a suspicious eyebrow, but Gwalchmai surged on, “There is no sign that she has left, and no sign of a struggle. No blood, no broken furniture. But she is no where to be found. Oh, and there was a dagger stuck in the headboard of her bed.”
“A dagger? Do you have it?”
“Yeah, but I left it in my cloak. It burns with magical heat, so I had to wrap it up. It looks like an assassin’s blade to me, but again there was no sign of a struggle.”
Thantor thought for a second, “I am sure that I would have felt a shift in the ki field if she had been taken in a fight, though I have been a little distracted of late. More likely, she is just wandering the keep, perhaps in the wine cellar. I’m sure she’ll turn up. The dagger could be a keepsake of hers from a previous adventure. I would have to hold it to know for sure.” Thantor’s eyes suddenly glazed over for a bit and he said, “Yes, yes, I agree. A little wine is definitely called for after everything is settled.”
Gwalchmai was about to express his confusion, when several large books on a high self suddenly slid off, striking him in the shoulder. “Ow! What th—?” Rubbing his shoulder, Gwalchmai looked at the shelf, “Do we have rats or something?”
Thantor ignored the books. “Bring me the dagger when you have a chance, but first ask T’lainya to step in here if you see her. I could use her help.”

Der-draigen sat in the keep kitchen, trying to appraise the characters around her as well as the current situation. Something was definitely going on here...but whether it could serve her purpose, or serve only as a threat to her, she still couldn't tell.
In the meantime she played the jolly halfling, and waited for some kind of break in the situation.

"I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened."

Mysteria's breif flash of a smile didn't go unnoticed on the keen elf's senses. He noticed it quite well. He nodded in return, although not right away. He sat a few moments before, appearing as if he were thinking as to whether or not to respond to it. A little game he played often, not so much to cause annoyance or trouble, but just to get people to double-think him, maybe make them reconsider their initial thoughts on the extrodinary elf. HE readjusted his position slightly, wishing he had some drink, preferably fine elven wine, but said not a word. Right now, he was comfortable with the hospitaltiy shown, and while the winds were begining to pick up outside, and the cold of winter begin to nip at the heels, he was sitting by a warm hearth. He may've loved the wilderness and nature, but the winters of Faerun had proven to be fierce in the past, and this one was shaping up to be no different. He merely kept a placid demeaner, and continued to listen, his gaze roving back and forth between the Half-elf, T'lainya, and the woman with the shock of red hair, who he believed was the one named Mysteria.

Still crouched beside the fire Dragon Wench looked around the kitchen and the various new faces within its caverous walls. She noticed the elf, Aegis, observing Mysteria, and despite the tingling sense of something being wrong, she suppressed a smirk.
Again uneasiness filled the depths of her being...and troubled she wandered upstairs where she encountered Gwally massaging his shoulder and muttering something about rats. Puzzled, she raised an eyebrow at him.
"Rats?" she said questioningly.
"Yes, I was assaulted by some books while talking to Thantor."
Nonplussed, she only nodded. "Erm.....have you found any traces of Georgi?" she enquired worriedly.

Vivien rushed down the stairs muttering to herself as she went.
"Potion bag and blanket"
"Treatment Area"
"Potion bag and Blanket"
"Treat-!"
She stopped herself at the edge of the entry to the kitchen, feeling the light and warmth spill from the room as she eyed those seated around the table. She tried to calm her nerves to appear more 'mage like', and sent a rueful hand to her unkept hair.
"Hello! I am Vivien of the Darkflames." She said with a smile stepping into the kitchen. Those in the kitchen looked her way and she learned that the red head was named 'Mysteria', the male elf 'Aegus', and that there was an adorable halfling in the company.
"I wish you well rested here, and hope we may talk later." She said with a smile and a slight blush before stepping back into the hallway her mind already on her task, until she caught sight of a familiar red head.
"T'lainya? But you're back!? Oh I'm so happy!!" She said throwing herself at the surprised Cleric, heedless of both armor and mace. After a quick hug, and inquiries as to her health, she pulled herself away with apologies muttering about treatments and potions.

OOC: Viv, why do you remind me of Aerie? (No insult!

Nippy sat and looked around at everyone, new faces, who much like him sat and looked bewildered at the unity shown between these people.
He stood up and went over to Aegis.
"Would you like to come outside? I'll show you our target ranges"
he said noticing Aegis' bow.
"I'll show you around the keep if you want..."

Maharlika had been wandering around for hours though he never knew how long had he been doing.
It's been quite some time since he fully had some communing with nature. His duties at the Temple almost made him forget the great feeling of fresh air as the wind blows against his face. The wind in his hair made his long locks wave in a gentle way...
The shock of being in a strange place, a strange land seemed to make him fully realize the full situation that he is in.
It was getting dark, dusk is setting in...
...the smell of cooking is in the air. He forgot how hungry he was!
Following the scent, he saw a Keep in the horizon, likely the source of FOOOOOD!!!!
But out of nowhere he felt something pounced on his back. Darn, he was thinking too much of his stomach he cursed himself for allowing to be surprised!
He is surrounded by a pack of very large dogs. Great evil uncommon among forest animals emanate from these creatures. Maharlika quickly unsheathes his sword, Deathstryke.
No blue light from the blade, Maharlika quickly noticed. These are not undead creatures, but sure as hell they're evil.
The fight that ensued actually lasted for not more than 5 minutes, but for him it seemed like hours. He was tired and hungry, and if it were not for his training and skill he'd probably end up as the pack's dinner.
Five of the great wolves lay dead in their own pool of blood. The rest had fled, or so it seemed, as soon as he cleaved the neck of the largest of the pack. There was an unusual clanging sound --- metal against metal. Seeing the large dog's corpse, he saw that the creature was wearing a metal collar of some sort. He took it.
He felt a whole lot weaker now. He realized too, that the fight did not leave him unscathed.
The walk to the Keep seemed like eternity...
...upon reaching the gate, he made one big knock using the pommel of his sword, then fell down --- unconscious.

Shifting uncomfortably on her chair as Aegis was watching her, Mysteria heard Nippy inviting him to show him the keep and to the shooting range. "Perhaps", she ventured to ask Nippy, "you could show me somewhere to drop my gear. And a bathroom.", she added with a glance to the mud still clinging to her. "Also, I would like to know a bit more about our situation. Why you were attacked, for instance. Perhaps you could tell us as we go along." Looking at the halfling, she added "Perhaps you would join us too?" Looking back to Nippy, she continued, "So, what do you say to this?"
I'm using 'perhaps' a lot, she thought. I've probably stayed away from people too much to sound so hesitating.

"Yes," Der-draigen said, "I'd like that very much. Maybe if I know the situation, I can help a little..."
"I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened."
"So do all who live to see such times; but that is not for them to decide. All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you."

"I apologise my friends, I forgot to ask!"
He looks around at the other Dark Flames, asking if they mind him telling the story of the Banshee. Seeing no one object, he began the tale. Recounting the entrance of the Banshee and the loss of Yshania's spirit into the ethereal realm and the battle against the skeletons.
Finishing the tale he looks at Mysteria.
"I'll show you to a guest room, they have baths in them and you are welcome to use them. Fresh towels washed by Gwal are in them, what is your name good woman?"
He looks at the Halfling.
"Tell me as we go along..."
They get up and Nippy walks past the door of the keep when he hears a banging.
"Not again!"
He pulls the door wide open when he sees someone lying flat on his face. He takes a quick intake of breath and picks him up, taking him into a nearby couch. He lays him out and calls for someone to take a look, he isn't that good with healing...
The others, Aegis, the unknown Halfling and Mysteria are stood around looking at the unconcious newcomer.

Perverteer Paladin
She was able to find what was needed in the treatment area, and returned carrying the softness of the blanket within her arms. She felt her steps back to the bedroom slow as her mind again traveled to the trouble Yshania was in. The flickering candlelight on the walls fell on her, casting odd shadows over her pensive features. She could not even imagine the horror of being trapped in a male body, and again there was fear, fear that they would not be in time. She could only hope that Yshania would not come out....changed...somehow...
With those frightening thoughts in her head, she again rushed forward through a darkened hallway, the candles on the wall gave little light to hold back the encroaching shadow.

“I don’t know where Georgi is, and no one else seems that concerned. Yshantor thinks she may just be wandering the elven tunnels drinking wine or something.”
“‘Yshantor?’” Dragon Wench asked with a smirk, “Well he might be right. Georgi wouldn’t leave us without telling us, and she would never be taken by force without a very large and loud fight. Maybe we should go down and check the wine cellar?”
“Okay,” Gwalchmai said glumly, “I just hope I didn’t say anything to make her mad.” He sighed. “Yeah, I could use some wine,-- but I won’t over do it,” he quickly added after Dragon Wench shot him a look.
Out in the hall, they could hear Nippy loudly leading the strangers on a tour of the keep, “When I show you guys the trophy room, you’ll be really impressed, I’m sure. There was once this crazy giant Gibberling that I dispatched after a tremendous.....”
As Gwalchmai and Dragon Wench made their way down to the wine cellar, Dragon Wench asked, “What do you think about this sudden influx of people showing up today? Nippy seems to trust them, but what do we really know about them?”
“We don’t know anything, and Nippy may be trusting to a fault.” Gwalchmai growled. “I don’t know what is going on, it seems like visitors are arriving every hour, on the hour. Its too much of a coincidence, if you ask me. I see no reason to trust them until we know them.”
“We have a huge battle that we must tend to soon. Even though their help would be useful, I really don’t want to have to watch my back and my front in the fight.” Dragon Wench opened the door to the wine cellar and looked around. “No Georgi,” she muttered.
“I agree. It would be best if we left our guests here when we go after the Abomination. Besides, we can’t really ask a bunch of people who show up seeking shelter to participate in a deadly battle, could we?” Gwalchmai said thinking of the trembling halfling and the nervous Ranger upstairs. He picked up two crates of wine.
Dragon Wench stacked a third crate of wine in Gwalchmai’s arms, and grabbed a couple of crates herself. As they made their way back up to the kitchen she said, “I wonder haw many more visitors we are going to have before this day is out?” Just then, they heard Nippy’s voice from the front room, calling for a healer.

Der-draigen inwardly rolled her eyes. If the Paladin hadn't been paying so much blatant attention to the flame-haired Mysteria, he would have heard her introduction. Oh well. "My name is Barrowden," she repeated cheerfully, as if she'd never said it before. "Alreth Barrowden. These trophies really are impressive!" She looked awed. But she was still waiting...
Then, when they encountered the unconscious stranger, she saw her opportunity. "Maybe I can help?" she said, nervously but eagerly. She went to the man while Nippy the Paladin called for a healer. Placing one small hand on the man's forehead and another over his heart, she closed her eyes and concentrated...

As Gwally went off in response to Nippy's call, Dragon Wench looked down at the wine in her arms; with a sigh she placed the crates down, and contemplated opening a bottle. All of a sudden she felt possessed of the strong urge to drink copious quantities of the potent vintage.
While considering this thought she noticed Jerren eying her.
"You seem very troubled," he said softly.
"I am....everything has suddenly turned upside down. Georgi is unaccountably missing, we have had a sudden influx of guests of whom we know little about,we are facing a potentially fatal battle, and I just have the sense that something is very wrong. I don't know where it is coming from, exactly....but it feels stronger within the keep. Home should be a place of refuge, not somewhere you want to run from.
Concerned, Jerren reached for her. Grateful for his presence, she held him near, and wondered how events would onfold.

Aegis knelt by the fallen man after Der-draigen finished, and gently placed a finger to his neck. He looked up, and nodded, signaling he was still alive. He then lift one of the man's arms, and lifted him up, his own shoulders dropping slightly at the weight of the man, especially in the armour. Nippy reactivly went for the other arm to help the smaller elf. In doing so, he unbalanced Aegis, but it hardly concerned either. They carried him into one of the common rooms, and placed him by the hearth, while Nippy went for help. Aegis took his cloak off, and placed it over the man for added warmth, and went to stand next to Mysteria.
