actually wasn't sacraties the guy who poisoned himself when the government threatened to hang him? or something... found him guilty of some charge so he poisoned his own wine. at least i think that was him.

Socrates was sentenced to death by the Athenian courts. The method of death was drinking a cup of wine laced with hemlock. He embraced his fate willingly, though not before boring the hell out of everybody with his exemplary morals and a few more lectures.

actually socrates only lost by a handful of votes for him to be allowed to eat from the hall of olympians for life.
back then...each side presented what they thought should happen, then the senate would vote.
