Carsomyr +6 question
Even though learning through ecperience is all well and good, but in reality, even that sn't enough (Hell, the person would more than likely get themselves killed) It takes years of focused training to acheive an adequete level of dual-wielding skill, and four hours of battle a day means little in the long run.
Nahh... Couple of days practice is all it takes to make a start. Really; it's dead easy once you know what to do.Originally posted by Aegis:

Dual-wielding in BG does not mean independantly attacking/defending with both hands. You get no AC bonus, and if your main hand can make several attacks, the off-hand still only gets one.

I`m no escrima expert, so correct me if I`m wrong. Escrima is based, mostly, on thursting, so the swords won`t clash. But even if they do, escrima swords are flexible, so clashing won`t create so many problems (they`re also VERY thin, good for avoiding clashing). I hadn`t thought of refering to thursting techniques since there are no such blades in the game.
Anyhow, I`m glad to hear from other people that enjoy practicing the near forgotten world of swordsmanship...

Back to the holy avenger...
herre is a question for paladins and other parties out there...
If you get the universal holy avenger patch, which replaces the regular holy avenger with one that can be used by anyone with two handed ability, like minsc, can it be upgraded with the eye of tyr?
I am not planning to take keldorn next time, and plan to run soa with minsc. Whoa...
I take the question back, caspinar upgrading it will change the itm file to a different one, so it will no longer be usable by minsc. rats!

RE dual-wielding: Remember also that the characters make only 4 swings every 6 seconds. Unless of course they're whrlwinding, but being the fighter's equivalent of a 10th level mage spell that is obviously put forward as being the result of extensive practice.
Edit - RE. Koren's message: Most of the work I have done involves slashing movements. Much of the art's technique is focussed around limb destruction (hmmm... parallel with reducing THAC0?), meaning that thrusts are used secondarily. Also (although irrelevant to BGII except for some of the Shadow Thieves) using reverse grip a straight thrust is pretty much impossible.

When dual-wielding, you can basically fight as someone with only one weapon, except that you can occasionally use the off-hand to parry or get in an extra attack. There's no real disadvantage compared to single weapon fighting.

Ahh aegis, I'm glad to find another medieval figher. Personaly, I think most of the dual wield thing should be used ONLY by pure fighters, blades and rangers. The Crom and Celestial combo seems SO wrong. A) crom is a big heavy hammer, and B) C. F is a super light katana. 2 more different weapons could not be found.
The premise to 2 weapon fighting styles is the ability to fight one handed with nothing bigger than a longsword, maybe a bastard sword if you are VERY strong. The purpose of the small weapon is to parry and occasionaly strike at limbs when your opponent is concentrating on your main weapon. The secondary purpose can only be done if you are very skilled, is the equivalent of a whirlwind attack. You launch a full out assualt with both weapons, trying to lure you opponent to counter only one atack.
For example, I fight with a longsword and a hatchet. The best trick is to use an overhand swipe with the longsword so it brings your oppnent sheild up. Then you hit his/her leg with the hatchet. If you had 2 bastard swords, you could NEVER pull that off. NEVER. Don't believe me? Get 2 big sticks and try attacking something. SOMETHING! not someone

The waves came crashing in like blindness.
So I just stood and listened.

Juji Dome, was a blocking technique of Japan's most famous Kensai, Miyamoto Musashi's Two Heaven's (Niten Ichi Ryu) fighting style. It is probably the most well known as it was used to humble an equally arrogant blademaster named Muso Gonnusuke.
It involved the use of a katana and wakizashi. The Juji Dome involved using the the daisho pair to trap an opponenet's weapon in a very steady grip. Either sword can then slide down the trapped weapon to deliver a fatal strike.
