I didn't say it because I didn't know for sure it was achievable, but I was planning never to rest with Nad
But it would take forever to get HLAs (I have them delayed until Level 21 at the earliest, which for a Fighter/Thief would mean 4.8m XP to hit Fighter 17/Thief 21)

Admit it, you're a masochist! :D

Whilst I can sort of understand delaying HLAs, I can't understand not resting. What do you do when he starts complaining about needing rest? Not spam resting* is cool, I don't understand an aversion to sleeping 8 hours a day (although personally it's usually six).

* For clarification I mean resting every time you get wounded, or just to recharge items.

Personally I wouldn't have considered changing classes before reaching level 9 Berserker; for one thing you get another enrage a day, more HP and better THACO. It would only take another 90K xp to get to 10th level thief over 8th level, which takes no time at all. In fact if you play BGT or Tutu and start in BG1 without an (expletive deleted) xp cap, you should be ready to roll as a Berserker/Rogue with all abilites available by the time you exit Chateau Irenicus. With the XP cap of course you'd need a total of 180K xp to complete the dual classing.

Oh yeah ;) . Definitely a masochist. I've roleplayed BG2 lots of times, so if I'm going to play it as a tactical challenge, might as well go the whole hog. No reloading, no resting solo with lots of added difficulty mods. Only thing I'm missing is putting the difficulty to insance and having a PC whose stats are all 9s  .

He's just going to have to suck it up if he gets tired :p . Actually if he did get fatigued and the cumulative penalty got so big that Nad couldn't hit anything, then I would have had to rest.

Yeah, I do think dualling later would be better; Fighter 9 / Thief 10 only takes a total of 410k XP, which is nothing. You get that by midday on Day 0. Fighter 13 / Thief 14 would be ideal, but that would take over 2m XP and would be very hard to survive as a fighter with no thief skills or as a thief with no fighter skills. But realistically, I think it has to be Dwarf Fighter/Thief.

Yeah, I never have the patience to wait until level 13, far too much hassle as you say.

There is the 'no traps no locks' option in BG Tweaks, not everyone's taste. For a thief it would reduce the amount of XP available, but I've always had an issue with granting XP for disarming traps and opening locks.

nOoO..! Nad died? Too soon!
Enjoyed reading this! I want more blog/journals like this one! It kinda gave me the same feeling as the journal written by Elmonster. Seriously, look it up - The Journal of Elmonster. The BEST mage journal from Vanilla BG2, hands down imo.

Please do another run-through either with Nad, or make a completely new one! This made me want to play again! :D

Haha thanks!

I basically came to the realisation that the mods I have installed are too difficult to do as a solo with no reloads.

I might try again with something a bit more powerful like a berserker / mage and maybe allow myself a couple of reloads for when things really go wrong.

Actually I had an idea for a character that breaks the rules - I thought about a dwarven multiclass berserker / mage! I tried it with shadowkeeper and it works. The only slight issue is that the game think you are a specialist mage and gives you 1 extra spell to memorise at each level - yet you have no opposition school :D . So it's a bit of an uber character but could be fun to play.

I won't be doing it imminently but maybe I'll have an update in the next month.

I can't wait. I would learn more strategies. I especially learned from your example of using potions effectively.
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.
