@Mr Snow - We've already established that I don't have the good sense to come in out of the rain (Balmain supporter - and other evidence).

As the majority of SYM probably thought that a 'map of tassie' had something to do with a Warner Brother's cartoon (This is Australian Politics we're talking about).

I don't really think my opinion is worth posting. In outline it would be Beazley - YUK, Howard - YUK, Ah WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE ISN'T ANY OTHER CHOICE!

To the broader issue of politicans and public opinion resulting in short term decisions for short term gains. I really think the Americans and our good selves are in pretty much the same boat (Tampa?). I think that John Howard claiming the role of the USA's deputy in the Asia Pacific Region was about as bizarre a piece of public opinion motivated retoric as your likely to see in the forseeable future.

I now gag myself on the topic of Australian Politics.

Just Slang up here, any town of middling importance (basically the whole state) has vagas added to it eg: Rockvagas = Rockhampton, Gladvagas = Gladstone.
It's really just a slur, being sarcastic about a place saying that it is better than it really is.
Like calling the local paper (as in major types=SMH/Age etc, not the suburban ones) the "Daily Astonisher". (Definately insert The Courier Mail here )

Or being a brisbane boy you could also say I'm a "Yocal" instead of local (I generally use it when dealing with anyone who doesn't work/live in the area "Don't worry about me, I'm just a Yocal".

Which is getting very off-topic, but with the "Axis of Evil" line, the thing that gets me is that Bush/or whoever thought up the policy is being very short-sighted, infact one could say counter-productive.
IMO: Take Iran, sure they weren't the bees-knees with american before, but from what I was seeing, they were slowly heading for democracy but putting them in the "Axis of Evil" group will just give the anti-american/democratic people weapons (metaphorically) to use, also gets people's back-up about it (I know it would for me "Whose the US to say who's evil or not?... Ef off"), North Korea is a basket case - kick them when they're down and make sure they never unify with the south while they (the US) are at it.
Saddam is another story but it still gives more power to the US's opposition than the US will ever get out of it.
